Many children and young people will receive new devices and computer games for Christmas, but we’reasking parents, do you know what your child is doing online or most importantly, who they are talkingto? For some children, it will be the first time they’ve owned a device that connects them to the onlineworld. Even for older children, a new device means new corners of the digital landscape to explore –and unfortunately, new risks to be aware of.Along with our partners at the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland, we have put together somekey tips on how to make sure children enjoy the internet safely. These tips include; checking the privacy, location and parental controls on devices that the child uses, checking the direct messages and chat functions on apps, using parental controls and having openconversations with their child about what they are doing online.Parents and carers can access the Safeguarding Board NI App for online safety information and advice.Practical tips and advice have been published on the Police Service’s website here:https://www.psni.police.uk/safety-and-support/keeping-safe/protecting-yourself/internetsafety/keeping-children-safe-onlinepsni workshopsConst. YOUNG ENTERPRISEBamboo toothbrushes are increasingly fashionableand undoubtedly environmentally friendly. With afocus on fun, sustainability and dental hygiene forchildren aged six to twelve, Omagh Academy’sYoung Enterprise company “Bambrushes” haveplaced an innovative spin on the bambootoothbrush.A hand made envelope has been designed, addressed to the buyer, franked with a panda pawstamp and tied carefully with string. Inside theenvelope is a letter which presents tenenvironmentally friendly pieces of advice, each froma different coloured panda. One of the attractivebamboo toothbrushes is boxed and included withthe letter. The fun for the buyer lbegins withdiscovering which colour of brush they will get andthen in matching their brush to the same-colouredpanda on the letter. Finally, they must follow thematching panda’s advice, to improve theirsustainability and have healthy teeth.“Bambrushes” are pleased that their product, whichcosts £2.00, is completely environmentally friendlyand sustainable. The company sold out at OmaghCounty’s Christmas Fair and at St. George’s Marketin Belfast. Look out for “Bambrushes” in February atthe Young Enterprise Market in Main St, Omagh!

A hard fought match for the 1stXI ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat in theSchools Cup recently. Hollie Berrabah's side started strong and scored within the first fiveminutes through Sophie Egerton. They maintained a high level ofpressure in the first half but Ballyclare equalised in the 3rd quarter. Itlooked to be going to run ins at a stage but Ballyclare scored in the finalquarter to take the lead. Omagh piled on the pressure in the finalminutes with many corners and chances but unfortunately the finalwhistle blew and the game ended 2-1. We wish Ballyclare good luck in the next round of the Cup. The 1stXI now await the draw to determine their Senior Plateopponents. The U14s recently played against RSD in the Junior Cup Match.RSD got off to a great start and Omagh had a lot of defending to do. RSDcreated lots of chances and were able to convert and lead 2-0 going intohalf time.In the 2nd half Omagh did have opportunities to get into the RSD circle butcould not clinch a goal to get back into the game. Everyone played withgreat determination but unfortunately it wasn't our day. Sophie Little was player of the match as she had numerous saves to maketo ensure RSD got no more goals. Game finished 2-0 to RSD and we wishthem all the best in the next round.Hard luck to the 2AXI who lost 2-0 to Strathearn in the McDowell Cup.Strathearn scored both goals in the last quarter. Our girls should be veryproud of themselves. The 2Bs suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Down High School in the GibsonCup . Despite enjoying the majority of play and chances, they couldn't findthe back of the net. Hard luck but you should be proud of an excellentperformance. The U13s have had a busy term with lots of matches played and showingmuch improved performances. A particular well done on the 7-0 win in Westof Ulster League. 1st XI2nda XI2ndb XIu14u13
