3A Message from the Dallas Area Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Welcome to Dallas! Dallas is a great place to take in Oregon’s beauty by visiting the myriad of fun restaurants and shopping excursions while walking the charming streets of a genuine “main street” community. Set in the fertile Willamette Valley, Dallas (pop. 16,000), is surrounded by world-class wineries as well as countless natural areas which provide many options for hikers, cyclists and wildlife enthusiasts. We encourage you to make the most of your visit to our wonderful city by touring Dallas’ cultural gems, exploring eclectic shops, markets and cafés. We also invite you to sample some of the finest food and drink available, including award-winning wines and micro brews. Dallas is its own piece of Oregon and embodies the Orego-nian spirit - a gateway to Oregon’s many wonders. The mighty Pacific Ocean is 48 miles west, Portland is a mere 59 miles north, the famous Black Rock Mountain Bike Trail is 12 miles southwest and many other adven-tures in every direction. We hope to see you enjoying the community soon!MacLarin Jones, Harvest CrossfitDallas Area Chamber of Commerce Board President Jake Stamas, Citizen’s Bank Dallas Area Visitors Center Board PresidentA Message from Chamber and Visitor Center Board Presidents My name is JD Shinn, CEO of our great city’s Chamber of Commerce. We are surrounded by many local businesses who share my enthusiasm for all the great things the Dallas Area has to offer. When I joined my first chamber in 2014, I had, what I thought was, a good understanding of the chamber role in a community. Of course, I had attended chamber events, connected with many members and thought I knew about the purpose of a chamber of commerce. Joining the team of a chamber of commerce was eye-opening, to say the least. Fast forward a few years… I still am learning about the Chamber of Commerce. There is an old chamber adage: ‘if you’ve seen one chamber… you’ve seen one chamber’. In other words, they are all different. But really, are they? Chambers of Commerce serve as the business hub of a community. In communities with a thriving chamber of com-merce, you will find a thriving community of business. They go hand in hand. In my opinion they are the strongest and most important assembly of businesses in the world. Being a mem-ber of a chamber of commerce lends a business credibility in the marketplace and more importantly, a deeper connection to the community. The chamber of commerce model has lasted for centuries because of its ability to provide value to its investors. Cham-bers do this through a variety of programs and services, providing members with exposure to markets, a voice on leg-islative issues and a place to gather to solve problems within a community. The Dallas Area Chamber of Commerce’s commitment to our community is no different than it was in 1928 at its founding. The Chamber will continue to be the premier business associ-ation in the Dallas Area, provide our members with quality pro-motional opportunities, build strong networks and relationships, and provide education and awareness on public policy issues. We look forward to connecting with you on a deeper level.JD Shinn, Chief Executive OfficerDallas Area Chamber of Commerce

City of Dallas Take a stroll along the downtown Dallas main thoroughfare and one thing becomes clear - diversity in this business community has been vital to its success. From coffee houses, gyms, florists, antiques and furniture stores, salons and jewelers, business-es are open and ready to serve. But the Dallas business community is more than the downtown core of retail shops and service providers. Major employers - listed on the right - play a significant role in Dallas’ econ-omy. They employee residents who in turn spend money in the smaller “mom and pop” type businesses keeping the economic ball rolling. As the county seat, Dallas’ number two employer is Polk County. The Sheriff’s Office, District Attorney’s Of-fice, Family and Community Outreach and Public Health Departments to name a few, are all located in Dallas. The City’s number four employer is Dallas Retirement Village. It has grown to this status from its humble beginnings in 1947 when members of three local churches rented a big yel-low house to serve as a care center for aging adults. At number seven, James W. Fowler Co. was founded in 1972. Beginning with a single bulldozer, Jim began building logging and farming roads in the Coast Range of western Oregon. Today, James W. Fowler Co. is a di-versified general contractor providing heavy civil and tunneling construction solutions. One of Dallas’ newest employers is Pressed Coffee Roasters Cafe. They feature on-site craft coffee roasting, exceptional espresso beverages along with bakery items, soups, sandwiches and salads. So whether you live in Dallas or are visiting, let’s do business.Variety is the Spice of Life - Particularly in the Dallas Business Community

9“If we couldn't build a beautiful home in an outstanding area and offer it at an affordable price, we wouldn't build homes.” ~ Robert Watson, Founder“If we couldn't build a beautiful home in an outstanding area and offer it at an affordable price, we wouldn't build homes.” ~ Robert Watson, Founder Since 1989, our focus at Hayden Homes has been on building strong homes and a strong community in equal measure. Bob and Virginia Watson created Hayden Homes on a foundation of giving. It was them leading by example that has taught us that we should live in a world where we give more than we get. With a com-mitment to building a strong community together, Hayden Homes supports philanthrop-ic efforts in the communities in which we build and have contributed more than 18.3 million dollars in charitable donations with the flagship of our giving through the 501(c)(3) Non-Profit, First Story. To date, First Story has provided 77 deserving and capable families throughout the Northwest with a safe, healthy affordable home and a first step toward financial freedom. Our commitment to keep-ing our region strong, and our economy thriving manifests itself in the local and regional products and suppliers we choose to build with. To date, we’ve built almost 16,000 homes, and our positive impact on the Northwest economy exceeds one billion dollars. Orchard Gleanns, our new home community in Dal-las offers signature quality homes, with award winning single and two-story floor plans available at an excep-tional value. While we are in the business of building environments for our cus-tomers to enjoy their time indoors, we recognize a beautiful thing about living in the Northwest is the time we share outdoors—hiking, biking, climbing, and pad-dling in some of the country’s most breathtaking backdrops. We are grateful to do what we love in a place we love, like Dallas. Hayden Homes turns 30 this year!

My family and I have lived in Polk County since 1966. I currently live on the farm where I grew up, along with my husband Craig and a variety of critters. I have made the Central Willamette Valley a base for my business because of my familiarity with the area and the beauty of this part of the Valley. We are located within an hour of the amazing Oregon Coast, the Oregon Cascade Mountains and downtown Portland. Yet, the local community of Dallas has a population of just over 15,000. I can’t think of a better place to live! I am a member of the Polk County Association of Realtors and have held the posts of Executive Officer, President, Director and was chosen as their Realtor of the Year in 2001 and 2012. Real Estate has been my full time career since 1998. I am committed to continuing education and the use of technology in my business so that I may be of the highest value to you! With that in mind, I moved my Real Estate License in 2018, to Keller Williams-the largest real estate com-pany in the United States. When it comes to jewelers in the Dallas area, there are simply none quite like Brixius. There is quite a bit of history behind this store. It was originally opened as a watch-making shop in the 1880s and it became Brixius Jewelers, Inc. in 1959. Brixius offers many differ-ent services besides retail jewelry such as gifts and watches as well as jewelry and watch repair. Robert Brixius is the current owner. When Robert is asked what makes Brixius unique, his response is “the jewelry mak-ing and repair is done in-house with almost nothing sent out to specialty jobbers.” Robert is a second generation watchmaker and jeweler. “As a young man I thought that it looked like a better way of making a living than other jobs.” Brixius has four employees, Bob Brixius the watchmaker, jeweler, and graduate gemologist, as well as three trained sales staff, all with more than a decade of ex-perience. The Brixius crew loves the friendly customer base in Polk County and Dallas area. Brixius Jewelers is a long standing member of the Jewelers of America and they abide strictly by their standards of ethics and business practices. Brixius is dedicated to providing the highest quality jewelry to suit your indi-vidual needs. “Our goal is to help the customer get the right piece of jewelry that matches their feelings for the recipient. That as a token of their love and esteem, it will be cherished for a lifetime, if not generations.” Robert is looking forward to continuing improvement in the downtown business climate here in Dallas. Rest easy with Wall Insurance. Wall is a full service, independent Insurance agency that represents multiple companies. Barbara Powers is the current owner. “Our agency strongly believes in education for all our agents on an ongoing basis. Not to satisfy state hour requirements, but to continue to learn and evolve as our industry changes and new challenges arise.” says Barbara. Barbara was born and raised in Dallas and Polk County. For Barbra this profession started as a part time job in college. “I loved the chal-lenge and every day was different. Insurance is always evolving which keeps it from getting boring. I started in home and auto and over 36 years have grown into all types of insur-ance products. I enjoy the relation-ships with customers and company personnel. Never intending to stay in the business, one day I realized that I could not imagine leaving it. On top of that, I was blessed to work alongside by father for over 30 years.” She said. Wall Insurance is well staffed with highly competent employees. “We have 5 employees who are all licensed agents. We have a Medicare supplement specialist. Several of our agents have initials behind their names for obtaining specialized insurance designations through a national program. Those who do not have a designation are in the mul-tiple year process of schooling and testing to obtain it.” said Barbara. Wall Insurance has been rec-ognized and awarded for their achievements. “We belong to PIA (Professional Insurance Agents). In fact, the original idea came from a trip to the Midwest in the mid-1970s. While visiting for the summer, founder Wyatt Pegg was in-troduced to the interlocking concrete paving stone, which was fairly new to North America. In 1988, after a stint in agriculture, Wyatt began to explore the idea of bringing paving stones to the Willamette Valley, and in February 1990, the ground was broken on a new manufacturing facility on a rural six-acre lot in Rickreall, Oregon. In 1991 Western Interlock received their first large contract to produce and install the materials for the new Capital Mall in Salem. All of Western Interlock’s concrete interlocking paving stones and mod-ular retaining wall units are made from a mixture of locally sourced materials. The Rickreall retail facility has an 8000 square foot outdoor product display that is open to the public. Almost 30 years later, Western Interlock is still an independent family owned and operated business serving both retail and wholesale customers. From the very beginning, the ownership’s goal for the compa-ny has been to actively live out their faith and to operate based on the principles in Colossians 3:17. Western Interlock’s team of friendly and knowledgeable sales staff are ready and willing to assist custom-ers from start to finish on any paving stone or retaining wall project, including design, product selection, and delivery. Their office hours are 7-5 Monday through Friday, and Saturday 9-12 during the summer season. They are located at 10095 Rickreall Rd Rickreall, OR 97371. Call them at (503) 831-4801.
