A Message
from the Dallas
Area Chamber
of Commerce
Chief Executive
Welcome to Dallas!
Dallas is a great place to
take in Oregon’s beauty by
visiting the myriad of fun
restaurants and shopping
excursions while walking
the charming streets of
a genuine “main street”
community. Set in the
fertile Willamette Valley,
Dallas (pop. 16,000), is
surrounded by world-class wineries as well as countless
natural areas which provide many options for hikers,
cyclists and wildlife enthusiasts.
We encourage you to make the most of your visit to our
wonderful city by touring Dallas’ cultural gems, exploring
eclectic shops, markets and cafés. We also invite you
to sample some of the finest food and drink available,
including award-winning wines and micro brews. Dallas
is its own piece of Oregon and embodies the Orego-
nian spirit - a gateway to Oregon’s many wonders. The
mighty Pacific Ocean is 48 miles west, Portland is a
mere 59 miles north, the famous Black Rock Mountain
Bike Trail is 12 miles southwest and many other adven-
tures in every direction.
We hope to see you enjoying the community soon!

A Message
from Chamber
and Visitor
Center Board
Presidents
My name is JD Shinn, CEO of our great city’s Chamber of
Commerce. We are surrounded by many local businesses who
share my enthusiasm for all the great things the Dallas Area
has to offer.
When I joined my first chamber in 2014, I had, what I
thought was, a good understanding of the chamber role in
a community. Of course, I had attended chamber events,
connected with many members and thought I knew about the
purpose of a chamber of commerce. Joining the team of a
chamber of commerce was eye-opening, to say the least.
Fast forward a few years… I still am learning about the
Chamber of Commerce. There is an old chamber adage: ‘if
you’ve seen one chamber… you’ve seen one chamber’. In
other words, they are all different. But really, are they?
Chambers of Commerce serve as the business hub of a
community. In communities with a thriving chamber of com-
merce, you will find a thriving community of business. They go
hand in hand. In my opinion they are the strongest and most
important assembly of businesses in the world. Being a mem-
ber of a chamber of commerce lends a business credibility in
the marketplace and more importantly, a deeper connection to
the community.
The chamber of commerce model has lasted for centuries
because of its ability to provide value to its investors. Cham-
bers do this through a variety of programs and services,
providing members with exposure to markets, a voice on leg-
islative issues and a place to gather to solve problems within a
community.
The Dallas Area Chamber of Commerce’s commitment to our
community is no different than it was in 1928 at its founding.
The Chamber will continue to be the premier business associ-
ation in the Dallas Area, provide our members with quality pro-
motional opportunities, build strong networks and relationships,
and provide education and awareness on public policy issues.
We look forward to connecting with you on a deeper level.
JD Shinn, Chief Executive Officer

City of Dallas
Take a stroll along the downtown
Dallas main thoroughfare and one
thing becomes clear - diversity in this
business community has been vital
to its success. From coffee houses,
gyms, florists, antiques and furniture
stores, salons and jewelers, business-
es are open and ready to serve.
But the Dallas business community
is more than the downtown core of
retail shops and service providers.
Major employers - listed on the right -
play a significant role in Dallas’ econ-
omy. They employee residents who
in turn spend money in the smaller
“mom and pop” type businesses
keeping the economic ball rolling.
As the county seat, Dallas’ number
two employer is Polk County. The
Sheriffs Office, District Attorney’s Of-
fice, Family and Community Outreach
and Public Health Departments to
name a few, are all located in Dallas.
The City’s number four employer
is Dallas Retirement Village. It has
grown to this status from its humble
beginnings in 1947 when members of
three local churches rented a big yel-
low house to serve as a care center
for aging adults.
At number seven, James W. Fowler
Co. was founded in 1972. Beginning
with a single bulldozer, Jim began
building logging and farming roads in
the Coast Range of western Oregon.
Today, James W. Fowler Co. is a di-
versified general contractor providing
heavy civil and tunneling construction
solutions.
One of Dallas’ newest employers is
Pressed Coffee Roasters Cafe. They
feature on-site craft coffee roasting,
exceptional espresso beverages along
with bakery items, soups, sandwiches
and salads.
So whether you live in Dallas or are
visiting, let’s do business.

Providing the best
customer service in a
relaxed atmosphere
If you’re planning ahead for the
unexpected, Tomas and Sondra
Patton are there for you.
The Tomas Patton Allstate
Agency is a family owned and
operated- husband and wife team,
selling Allstate auto, home, and life
insurance. Tomas Patton is fluent in
both English and Spanish, so there
are no communication barriers with
these two.
Tomas and Sondra have lived in
the Dallas area for over 30 years.
“We love the community and the
people that live here.” says Sondra.
Tomas and Sondra personally
know the value of having adequate
insurance. After having their new
office open for only seven months,
the business complex they were
located inside of suddenly burned
down. “We lost everything in the
fire, and started over in a different
location.” Sondra said. Take it from
them, they’ve been there. “We have
first-hand experience of what it is
like to have an insurance loss...so
we can relate to our customers that
have a loss.” says Sondra.
The goal of Tomas and Sondra is
to make the customer feel com-
fortable while providing a quality
service. “We strive to provide the
best possible customer service in a
relaxed atmosphere.”says Sondra.

Our commitment to keep-

Dallas was settled in the 1840s on
the north side of Rickreall Creek.
It is
a family-oriented community located in
the heart of the scenic Willamette Valley,
just 13 miles west of Salem. This quiet
and charming town is the Polk County
seat and the downtown is home to the
historic Polk County Courthouse, City
Hall and many other historic buildings.
The Dallas area is surrounded by vine-
yards, world class wineries, abundant
farmland and the coastal mountain
range.
The City of Dallas is a full service
community that operates its own police
department, fire department, ambulance
service, municipal court, library and
aquatic center.
The City has wonderful public schools
with a great teaching staff that puts
students first. Chemeketa Community
College, whose main campus is located
in Salem, offers a variety of technical
and vocational programs and college
transfer classes, and maintains a branch
“outreach” campus co-located at Dallas
High School. The Dallas campus offers a
wide spectrum of daytime and evening
classes. There are several other colleges
and universities located within easy
driving distance of the Dallas area, in-
cluding Western Oregon University in the
neighboring community of Monmouth.
The businesses and citizens of Dallas
care deeply for their community. They
have remarkable civic pride and volun-
teering spirit. Folks here are welcoming,
neighborly, and caring of each other,
creating an amazingly popular home
town atmosphere. This is the kind of
town that if you lose your dog or your
wallet, you’re highly likely to get them
back with your dog well-fed and your
cash intact.

“We deliver peace of mind
and financial security.
Accidents happen. It’s a fact of
life. Luckily there are people
like Mitch Ratzlaff at State Farm
Insurance to help us out. “We de-
liver peace of Mind and financial
security.” says Mitch. It can be
hard to choose between different
Insurance Companies. What you
want, is to find somebody with
the know how and dedication to
provide quality service. “Insurance
and financial service companies
are everywhere. We’re different
because I have an excellent
team that genuinely cares about
people and what’s important to
them.” For Mitch, this is a bit of
a family legacy, and something
he has always been familiar with.
“Growing up I always said I would
“NEVER” be a State Farm agent.
says Mitch. “My dad was an
agent for 42 years and I thought
what he did was boring and dull.
When I realized what was going
on and that he was the one thing
that was going right for them at
that moment, I wanted to help
too.” Great service is certainly
a team effort. Mitch currently
has four employees working
with him; Trina, Darci, Kathy, and
Crysta. The success of Mitch and
his team have been recognized
by State Farm. His agency has
consistently qualified for the State
Farm Honor club every year. Mitch
and his team are also on track to
achieve the State Farm Crystal
exellence award.” Mitch loves
the people and community of
Dallas.”The people here are real,
down to earth and hard-working,
and this is a community with a
sense of pride and belonging. We
are all family people here who
value relationships and communi-
ty. When you buy from us you are
getting an excellent product, with
excellent service AND indirectly
supporting your own communi-
ty.” If youre looking for reliable,

Keller Williams’ Agents
are the best of the best.
My family and I have lived in Polk
County since 1966. I currently live
on the farm where I grew up, along
with my husband Craig and a variety
of critters. I have made the Central
Willamette Valley a base for my
business because of my familiarity
with the area and the beauty of this
part of the Valley. We are located
within an hour of the amazing
Oregon Coast, the Oregon Cascade
Mountains and downtown Portland.
Yet, the local community of Dallas
has a population of just over 15,000.
I can’t think of a better place to live!
I am a member of the Polk County
Association of Realtors and have
held the posts of Executive Officer,
President, Director and was chosen
as their Realtor of the Year in 2001
and 2012. Real Estate has been my
full time career since 1998. I am
committed to continuing education
and the use of technology in my
business so that I may be of the
highest value to you!
With that in mind, I moved my Real
Estate License in 2018, to Keller
Williams-the largest real estate com-
pany in the United States. I am part
of the Capital City Branch (Salem)
with an office in Dallas, Oregon.
Keller Williams’ focus on technology
and training has resulted in the best
of the best when it comes to agents;
I am proud to join their ranks! I am
a two time graduate of their 7 week
BOLD program, which teaches Busi-
ness Objectives and a Life by Design.
The program teaches us how to
respond to changing markets and the
best avenues for getting properties
sold and further aligns with my belief
that buying and selling real estate
really is all about you!

Family friendly communities are
communities where families enjoy
housing and child care that is afford-

and safe neighborhoods. In addition to
encompassing all of the above, Dallas
offers a variety of recreational
activities for the entire family.
Take a dip at the Dallas Aquatic
Center or bowl a turkey at Starlite
Lanes, Dallas’ bowling alley. If you’re
looking of a little more low key
adventure, you can catch the latest
blockbuster at Dallas Cinema or
check out a great book to read at the
Dallas Public Library.
Throughout the year, there are many
community festivals hosted right here
in Dallas. Rock the Square, Bounty
Market, Red White Boom, Krazy Dayz,
and Winterfest are just a few of these
family fun events that capture the
charm of our quiet town.
You can spend some time exploring
historic downtown Dallas. It is packed
with colorful murals, restaurants,

Need the perfect gift?
Brixius Jewelers can help.
When it comes to jewelers in the
Dallas area, there are simply none
quite like Brixius. There is quite a
bit of history behind this store. It
was originally opened as a watch-
making shop in the 1880s and it
became Brixius Jewelers, Inc. in
1959. Brixius offers many differ-
ent services besides retail jewelry
such as gifts and watches as well
as jewelry and watch repair.
Robert Brixius is the current
owner. When Robert is asked
what makes Brixius unique, his
response is “the jewelry mak-
ing and repair is done in-house
with almost nothing sent out to
specialty jobbers.” Robert is a
second generation watchmaker
and jeweler. “As a young man I
thought that it looked like a better
way of making a living than other
jobs.”
Brixius has four employees, Bob
Brixius the watchmaker, jeweler,
and graduate gemologist, as well
as three trained sales staff, all
with more than a decade of ex-
perience. The Brixius crew loves
the friendly customer base in Polk
County and Dallas area.
Brixius Jewelers is a long
standing member of the Jewelers
of America and they abide strictly
by their standards of ethics and
business practices. Brixius is
dedicated to providing the highest
quality jewelry to suit your indi-
vidual needs. “Our goal is to help
the customer get the right piece
of jewelry that matches their
feelings for the recipient. That as
a token of their love and esteem,
it will be cherished for a lifetime,
if not generations.” Robert is
looking forward to continuing
improvement in the downtown
business climate here in Dallas.

Wall Insurance is always working to
be better, more knowledgeable
When it comes to insurance, a well
trained and certified team, will give
you peace of mind. Rest easy with
Wall Insurance. Wall is a full service,
independent Insurance agency that
represents multiple companies.
Barbara Powers is the current owner.
“Our agency strongly believes in
education for all our agents on an
ongoing basis. Not to satisfy state
hour requirements, but to continue
to learn and evolve as our industry
changes and new challenges arise.”
says Barbara.
Barbara was born and raised in
Dallas and Polk County. For Barbra
this profession started as a part time
job in college. “I loved the chal-
lenge and every day was different.
Insurance is always evolving which
keeps it from getting boring. I started
in home and auto and over 36 years
have grown into all types of insur-
ance products. I enjoy the relation-
ships with customers and company
personnel. Never intending to stay
in the business, one day I realized
that I could not imagine leaving
it. On top of that, I was blessed to
work alongside by father for over 30
years.” She said.
Wall Insurance is well staffed
with highly competent employees.
“We have 5 employees who are all
licensed agents. We have a Medicare
supplement specialist. Several of
our agents have initials behind their
names for obtaining specialized
insurance designations through a
national program. Those who do not
have a designation are in the mul-
tiple year process of schooling and
testing to obtain it.” said Barbara.
Wall Insurance has been rec-
ognized and awarded for their
achievements. “We belong to PIA
(Professional Insurance Agents).
We have won underwriters choice
awards from insurance companies in
the past.” Barbara said.

Beautiful paver patio from Western Interlock
Western Interlock is living their faith and
operating their business on principles
Western Interlock has always been
about family. In fact, the original idea
came from a trip to the Midwest in
the mid-1970s. While visiting for the
summer, founder Wyatt Pegg was in-
troduced to the interlocking concrete
paving stone, which was fairly new
to North America.
In 1988, after a stint in agriculture,
Wyatt began to explore the idea
of bringing paving stones to the
Willamette Valley, and in February
1990, the ground was broken on a
new manufacturing facility on a rural
six-acre lot in Rickreall, Oregon. In
1991 Western Interlock received
their first large contract to produce
and install the materials for the new
Capital Mall in Salem.
All of Western Interlock’s concrete
interlocking paving stones and mod-
ular retaining wall units are made
from a mixture of locally sourced
materials. The Rickreall retail facility
has an 8000 square foot outdoor
product display that is open to the
public.
Almost 30 years later, Western
Interlock is still an independent
family owned and operated business
serving both retail and wholesale
customers. From the very beginning,
the ownership’s goal for the compa-
ny has been to actively live out their
faith and to operate based on the
principles in Colossians 3:17.
Western Interlock’s team of friendly
and knowledgeable sales staff are
ready and willing to assist custom-
ers from start to finish on any paving
stone or retaining wall project,
including design, product selection,
and delivery. Their office hours are
7-5 Monday through Friday, and
Saturday 9-12 during the summer
season. They are located at 10095
Rickreall Rd Rickreall, OR 97371.

Blue Garden Restaurant

friends bring friends.
Looking for a home-cooked style
meal? Maybe just a place to grab
drinks and relax with friends? Look
no further than the Blue Garden
Restaurant and lounge in Dallas.
Originally established in 1924,
Bob Collins and his wife Karen
Lindsly-Collins purchased the Blue
Garden in 2015. The Blue Garden
was always near and dear to Bob
and his wife Karen. They always
said if they had a chance they
would buy the business. When the
opportunity arose in 2015, Bob
knew he had to buy it.
Bob has completely restored and
remodeled the building. Bringing
an Art Deco design to the building,
the Blue Garden is now reminiscent
of the decade in which it was first
opened.
The Blue Garden offers always
fresh, homemade style food. They
offer many baked goods such as
pies, bread and cinnamon rolls. The
meat is never frozen.
The Blue Garden currently has 21
employees, and customer service is
their number one priority.
The Blue Garden is now open for
business, so come on in today. It
is located in the center of Dal-
las across the street from the
courthouse, at 827 Main Street in
Dallas. You can reach them at 503-
