YS(2024)SONIC ART INSTALLATION BYJIVAN X RAMESHSurveyInstagramWebsiteAbout the ArtistJivan Xander Ramesh is a New York composer and cellist.He is a graduate of Juilliard PreCollege and he is currentlya junior at SUNY Stony Brook in a double major in musicand biochemistry.Jivan composes in wide variety of musical styles for Western and Chinese instruments. He is also an accomplished cellist who performs in numerous styles including classical and Jazz and is a member of the Chinese Music Ensemble of New York. He enjoys musical theatre and has been music director and played in the pit.Jivan is always involved in some new project. Please connect below to see what he is currently working on, or to suggest a new musical adventure.Sound is all around us. Eyelids can help us rest from sight, but we don’t have earlids. Sometimes we turn our active listening off. ExperienceAs you descend the staircase, listen as the sounds you hear mirror your descent into the sea. Circling gulls give way to manatees and dolphins and then to the great whales in the depths. I would love if you could respond to a brief survey of your experienceDo the sounds seem unfamiliar, distorted? How do the sounds affect you as you take your aural journey into the Ocean’s depths to visit drowned city, Ys.InspirationYs (2024), is inspired by the legendary Breton sunken city of the same name.Imagine descending down a vortex as you descend this staircase. The sounds of the surface retreat. As you approach the ramparts, to your surprise, you perceive that drowned Ys is not silent. It is filled with the thrum and the rhythm of the deep sea.
