Math-By-Mail: Standards Based Practice (Gr. 5-9) *It’s back! Keep young minds active with the locally developed Math-By-Mail curriculum. Math practice accompanied by enrichment activities for the upcoming summer months, created by current middle school math teachers with 45+ years of combined experience! Minnesota State Standards, Math Frameworks MCA strands, and current Minnesota Benchmarks are the foundation for this curriculum. With creative problem solving, multiple-choice, short answers, and vocabulary embedded into an 8-week course of independent study, students will maintain or increase their math understanding level. While improving their math understanding level, students will also be reviewing the recommended targets suggested by grade level in the Minnesota School Academic Standards for mathematics. Each student will be given a pretest to assess the appropriate skill level necessary to strengthen their individual math needs, unlike other programs that are exclusively grade level driven. Students will receive an 8-lesson packet to complete at their own pace throughout the summer. As students nish packets, they are mailed back for feedback and then returned to the students. Dynamic Drawing Art Camp (Ages 6-11) *Want to take your drawing skills to the next level? Then this is the camp for you. Students will develop drawing skills that they will be able to apply to all sorts of projects. Kids will learn line drawing, perspective, shading and other drawing techniques. Using a step by step method, students learn how to draw animals, people, 3D shapes and cartoons using easily recognizable shapes. Unied Outdoor Adventures with Wilderness Inquiry (Ages 11 & Up)Wilderness Inquiry is coming to Rochester! Join us at Silver Lake Park for a unique half day outdoor experience. Participants will have the opportunity to navigate the lake in a voyager canoe, learn camping skills, ride adaptive bikes, participate in team building activities, and learn a fur trading game. This event is for individuals of all abilities aged 11 to adult. Parents and personal aides are welcome, but not required, to participate with their child or client respectively; please note this when registering. Upon registration you will receive a waiver which must be signed and returned to Community Education or Parks and Recreation AccessABLE Recreation Program before the event. Participation will not be permitted for anyone who has not signed a waiver. We will have additional waivers available at the event. Upon registration you will also receive advice on appropriate attire and what to bring to the event. Dance{YEL!} Junior Dance (Gr. K-5) *Glissade, pirouette and chassé your way across the oor as you learn fundamental dance repertoire while preparing for the end of session recital. Each {YEL!} Junior Dance class follows four basic components: Teach It: Each class students are taught dance fundamentals. Practice It: Students practice those fundamentals as a group and individually. Move It: They implement what they’ve learned into across-the-oor and barre routines. Dance It: Finally, students put it all together in a choreographed routine in preparation for the recital. PARENTS: Ballet or jazz dance shoes are recommended, but not required. This class for children will address several topics relating to being “Home Alone” including age guidelines, safe habits, house rules, after school routines, phone calls and door knocks, dog emergencies, personal safety, handling the unexpected, gun safety, severe weather, re safety, intruders, and rst aid tips. Symphonic Strings Camp (Gr. 8-12) *Experienced student musicians who play violin, viola, cello, and bass are invited to participate in string orchestra camp. Students will learn advanced instrument and ensemble technique while preparing original masterworks for string orchestra. Violinist and conductor, James Buchan, will teach the camp. Mr. Buchan has 30 years of conducting and teaching experience, and was formerly a member of the New World Symphony and Hong Kong Philharmonic. There will be a public performance at a local senior center on the last day of camp. TheatreImmersion Youth Repertory Theatre: “Kiss Me, Kate” (Gr. 8-12) *In this camp, students will experience a full-scale musical production, from audition to performance. With romance, comedy, fantastic dance numbers and behind-the-scenes hijinks, “Kiss Me Kate” combines the irreverent humor of two brilliant writers: Cole Porter and William Shakespeare, and it is the winner of 5 Tony Awards. This classic comedy tells the story of a theatre company putting on a musical version of “The Taming of the Shrew.” Strong singers and dancers needed but rst time theatre participants are encouraged, as well. If you withdraw from a class less than 1 week before the start date, you will receive a pro-rated refund minus any costs incurred, including a $5.00 processing fee. No refunds 72 hours prior to class start date.CLASS WITHDRAWAL POLICY AFTER START DATEYou may withdraw from classes of three sessions or more after attending the rst session. You must notify the Enrichment Ofce, 328-4000 of your intent to withdraw prior to the second class. Unless otherwise indicated you will be issued a prorated refund minus a $5 processing fee and any costs incurred.TRANSPORTATIONParents are responsible for their student’s transportation unless noted otherwise. Students should be dropped off no earlier than 10 minutes before the listed class start time. Students attending an after school class at their home school will go to the class after school is released. Parent/Guardians are responsible for communicating class information with the school staff. Student MUST be picked up promptly after the listed class end time. Students will only be released directly to their parent/guardian. Parent/Guardians: please meet the instructor and your student at the main/front entrance of the building unless otherwise stated. SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATIONFamilies who qualify for the free or reduced price meal program may receive a 50 percent reduction in class fees up to $25 per child, per catalog.
