This has helped me have a better understanding of myself.” —Senior ClientWHEN YOUARE READY,WE AREHERE.Understanding the community’s mental health needs, the YMCA oers mental health services and programs to the greater San Antonio community. The Y oers free and subsidized mental health programs such as individual and group counseling, workshops, and educational seminars. Our services are unique because we have integrated them into our YMCA facilities and programs. By providing counseling and groups in a non-traditional setting, such as a Y facility, we help to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health for individuals seeking services.We currently oer counseling services at eleven Y facilities, focusing on supporting some of the most vulnerable populations. We intentionally provide free and subsidized counseling in 6 Y facilities in underrepresented, underserved communities. We oer a full array of counseling services for youth (10 and older), adults, veterans, seniors (65+), couples, and families. We are dedicated to addressing inequity and responding eectively to the distinct mental needs of the diverse cultures in our communities. The YMCA’s Counseling and Well-Being team consists of licensed and pre-licensed professionals dedicated to helping individuals heal. Our counselors specialize in multiple evidence-based approaches and reflect the demographics and language capabilities of the communities we serve.By fostering mental health community care and partnering with clinical support, we strive to create an environment where everyone can access mental health support. Our goal is to oer a safe space of understanding, compassion, and healing.

PROGRAM & SERVICESThe YMCA oers counseling services for youth (10 and older), adults, veterans, seniors (65+), couples, and families. We also provide referrals to community resources, flexible scheduling and quality mental health care in a non traditional setting. We hope to break down barriers that keep individuals from seeking the help they need. Our counselors are equipped to assist with anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, divorce, stress management, parent/youth issues, anger management, and grief counseling. We aim to help individuals develop communication skills, a greater sense of self-acceptance/self-esteem, better expression of emotions, learn healthy coping skills, and relieve anxiety, depression, and other conditions.By providing accessible and specialized mental health services, we break down the structural barriers that prevent equitable access to mental health care. Although we are committed to continuing to oer these services free or subsidized to our most vulnerable populations, there is a significant cost for licensed personnel and other hard costs for the Y.The YMCA of Greater San Antonio ensures the long-term sustainability of the Counseling and Well-Being program through various strategies. We are actively seeking insurance provider approval to bill for services to provide seamless access to these resources for our members. Our Philanthropy Team cultivates partnerships and secures funding from individuals, foundations, the United Way, and corporations, supporting diverse Y programs.The YMCA Annual Support Campaign mobilizes community members to raise awareness and funds, providing subsidies for families in need. Additionally, program revenue from participant fees and membership dues contributes to covering operational costs. By combining insurance funding, diversified fundraising, and program revenue, the Y establishes a solid foundation for sustaining the program, ensuring its continued positive impact on the community. Early Learning and Child Care programs prepare children for lifelong success, with 81% demonstrating age-appropriate social-emotional skills and 85% achieving cognitive milestones. After-School programs inspire confidence through academic enrichment and play, while 98% of parents credit Y programs with helping them maintain jobs or continue their education. Flexible drop-in care through Child Watch and Kids Club ensures families have the support they need. Through programs like the Diabetes Prevention Program and the Blood Pressure Self-Monitoring Program, we provide the tools, guidance, and support needed to create lasting, meaningful change. The Diabetes Prevention Program helps adults at risk of type 2 diabetes adopt healthy habits, improve nutrition, increase physical activity, and achieve sustainable weight loss. PROGRAM & SERVICESThe YMCA of Greater San Antonio is committed to improving community health through innovative programs and partnerships that strengthen the foundation of our community. In collaboration with the American Heart Association, the Y has introduced self-measured blood pressure machines at 14 locations across the region, empowering individuals to monitor their numbers and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. With 1 in 4 residents aected by high blood pressure—many unaware of their condition—this initiative embodies the YMCA’s mission of "uniting generations" by promoting health and creating a legacy of wellness for all.The YMCA’s Diabetes Prevention Program, part of the CDC-led National Diabetes Prevention Program, helps adults at high risk of type 2 diabetes adopt sustainable, healthy habits. Participants engage in a year-long program led by YMCA Certified Lifestyle Coaches, exploring nutrition, physical activity, and behavioral changes in small group sessions. By addressing prediabetes with proven strategies, the program breaks down barriers to wellness, fostering inclusivity and a healthier, more connected community. Inspired by our 150th Anniversary "Uniting Generations" campaign, these programs ensure every participant feels supported on their journey to a brighter, healthier future. From energizing fitness classes to engaging educational workshops, ForeverWell encourages participants to maintain an active lifestyle while fostering social connections. The program’s unique oerings include both virtual and in-person experiences, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility for all.ForeverWell reflects the YMCA’s dedication to inclusivity, providing vibrant opportunities for participants to thrive in a supportive, community-focused environment. With flexible options and resources, this program makes it easier than ever for individuals to stay connected, active, and engaged. Through the YMCA’s Achievers Programs, we provide academic support, career exploration, and mentorship to inspire youth to dream big and achieve their goals. From STEM activities to arts, team building, and field trips, participants gain valuable skills while building confidence and character. Similarly, the YMCA’s Youth & Government program oers hands-on civic engagement, where teen delegates explore democracy, develop leadership skills, and debate policy at a state conference. PROGRAM & SERVICESThe YMCA of Greater San Antonio provides transformative opportunities for teens through Teen Achievers and Youth & Government. These programs encourage leadership, academic achievement, and civic responsibility through engaging activities and real-world experiences. At the 2024 Youth & Government State Conference, 180 teens earned awards and 4 gained national recognition, including advancing to national competitions, demonstrating the success and impact of these initiatives. Rooted in the "Uniting Generations" campaign, we are committed to equipping youth with the skills and inspiration to lead and thrive in a stronger, more connected future.Black Young Men of Color: Aligned with the "Uniting Generations" mission, the BYMOC program ensures equitable outcomes for boys and young men of color ages 11–17 by addressing systemic barriers and creating culturally responsive environments. Participants are twice as likely to grow up in poverty, more likely to live in neighborhoods of concentrated poverty, and face a higher risk of falling into poverty as adults, regardless of background. Through BYMOC, 70% of participants access nurturing, high-quality, and culturally relevant environments, while 75% achieve stabilized and improved grades by reducing suspensions and improving school attendance. This program exemplifies the Y’s commitment to fostering equity, breaking barriers, and uplifting future generations.OUR IMPACTYouth & Government: Empowered nearly 300 teens to develop leadership skills, civic engagement, and career readiness through mentorship, advocacy, and volunteer opportunities.Y Achievers: The Teen Achievers Program is committed to motivating young people to succeed after high school. We want to provide support, direction, and opportunities for our youth to determine and achieve their personal, academic, and career goals. We also provide fun and engaging chances to explore STEM, College Life, Career Readiness, and a wide variety of arts, dance, indoor & outdoor activities, team building, self-esteem activities, and field trips.VolunTeens: 341 Teen volunteers contributed 10,230 hours of service, supporting community needs while building responsibility, leadership experience, and a strong foundation for lifelong civic engagement.Due to significant reductions in funds from United Way and other sources, some of these programs may go away in 2025 if funding is not raised.
