Similarly, the presentation of MarieNicholsby’s book celebrating the journey of Alkionides UK, isa testament to what can be achieved through collectiveefforts. The classical concerts, along with the unique puppetshow “Amikeco” served as cultural bridges, that broughtpeople together. Furthermore, the Cyprus Film Days Festivaloffered a thought-provoking exploration of the humancondition through the lens of Cypriot filmmakers. Finally, theChristmas Jazz Live Concert featuring Katerina Mina added aroof-raising seasonal and jovial finale to our culturalendeavours in 2023.Looking back on the year, I extend my appreciation to ourpartners, collaborators, and the entire community for theirsupport. It is through their enthusiasm and engagementthat each cultural event with a link to Cyprus has come tolife. May the Cultural Review 2023 inspire all of us, sparkcuriosity, and kindle a deeper appreciation for the beautythat cultural diversity brings to our lives.Warm regards,Andreas KakourisCyprus High Commissioner at the UnitedKingdom The exploration of the unique cultural dress code ofRizokarpaso, the groundbreaking use of Virtual Reality inarchaeology, and the promotion of research opportunitiesthrough a webinar showcase our commitment to preserveour cultural heritage. In the last three years, an exciting collaboration emergedbetween archaeologists and a research team, focusingon the accurate virtual reconstruction of one of theCyprus' World Heritage sites: the aceramic Neolithic siteof Choirokoitia, dating back to the 7th millennium B.C.The primary goal of integrating these technologies intothe site was twofold. Firstly, it aimed at providing freshinsights and new interpretations for archaeologicalresearch data. Secondly, it sought to enhance publicunderstanding of history by engaging visitors in the coreaspects of the site, encompassing environment, economy, architecture, daily life, craft production, andthe rituals of its ancient inhabitants. Through thisinnovative use of VR and AR, the project aimed atinspiring archaeological understanding and offered anappealing educational experience to the public, bridgingthe gap between past civilizations and present-dayaudiences. “Good evening, I just wanted to thank you for bringing theperformers today to our school to stage their play “Spanosand the Forty Dragons”. Kindest regards.” (Andrea De Lucy)We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Cyprus HighCommission in London, the superb actors and the inventive directorfor bringing the performance “Spanos and the Forty Dragons”, anadaptation of the Cypriot folk tale, to the Ashmole Greek School onSaturday, 1st July 2023. What a treat! All the pupils were enchanted! The use of both dialects, the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot, highlighted the key message of the play – friendship and peacefulcoexistence of people – while the supertitles in English helpedpupils to watch the play with ease. Young and older pupils enjoyedthe performance. Especially younger children were veryenthusiastic! We wish we more often had such opportunities toattend so qualitative activities which not only entertain thecommunity children but also get them in direct contact with theCyprus tradition and culture. On Monday, 6th November, the pupils of Saint KyprianosSchool were once more happy to host one of thesubsidised performances by the Cultural Department ofthe Cyprus High Commission in London. The puppet show“Amikeco” greatly impressed the children of all ages.Amikeco’s impressiveness in combination with theexquisite music of the performance and the puppeteers’skilfulness, successfully unfolded the plot of the story.Bittersweet feelings… joy because Amikeco was no morealone since he had found a friend but also grief since olderchildren, behind this tiny puppet, realised the greatproblem of homeless people. A performance with nowords, which said too much!(Marilena Papaperikleous) On Monday, 6th November, the pupils of Saint KyprianosSchool were once more happy to host one of thesubsidised performances by the Cultural Department ofthe Cyprus High Commission in London.
