Page 1

A Note from the Music Director It is with great excitement that we announce the dates for our 2023-24 season - our rst full, in-person season since 2019-20. Aer two years of online COVID programming followed by our limited return last season, we hope to see you once again at our home in the lovely sanctuary of CSAIR! Our musicians are ready and eager to return. Violinist Renée Jolles will join me for our 15th consecuve season together at Inmate Voices. We are delighted to play once again with violist Ramón Carrero-Marnez and to welcome violist Dana Kelley, cellist Sujin Lee, and cellist Nathan Whiaker. As always, our programs will include the old and the new, familiar masterpieces and lesser-known wonderful works. We are planning string quartets for our November and March concerts, and our January concert will feature virtuosic duos for two violins and for violin and viola. These duo combinaons have intrigued composers and players alike for centuries, though most of the works are rarely heard in large concert halls. Our venue at CSAIR is ideal for this truly inmate music. It has been a decade since our last duo evening, and we are excited to bring some new repertoire to our audience. We are also planning a full return to our outreach eorts, with visits to area nursing homes and the VA Medical Center, and events for special-needs kids and their enre families. Our community's generosity has made this programming possible in the past, and, with your connued generosity, we look forward to resuming at full speed! Ticket prices will remain the same as pre-pandemic, and our evenings will once again oer wine, coee, tea and light refreshments, all included in the cket price. We look forward to seeing you! Sheila Reinhold A Brief History of Intimate Voices Inmate Voices was launched in the fall of 2009, and over our rst 11 years, we played 54 free outreach programs in our community including: • 16 programs for families (with the last 3 years in a sensory/ausm-friendly format) • 10 programs for special-needs children at the Riverdale Early Childhood Center of Birch Family Services • 9 annual programs for disabled veterans (beginning in season 2) at the James J Peters VA Medical Center • 17 programs at local nursing/rehab facilies Our annual 3-concert series programs during those rst 11 seasons presented a variety of: • The standards – including 10 works by Haydn, 9 by Beethoven, and 8 by Mozart • The new – including 8 works by living composers • Lesser-known masterpieces – including 11 by composers who were murdered or suered danger and displacement in the Holocaust We had to adjust quickly when the pandemic hit, and during those two COVID-19 seasons we pivoted to free online oerings including: • 16 performances (mostly for solo violin and viola) followed by Q&A • A 3-part course, taught by Music Director Sheila Reinhold, entled: A Performer's Explo-raon of Bach's Six Masterpieces for Solo Violin, with an extra roundtable session featuring Inmate Voices regulars violinist Renée Jolles and cellist James Wilson. Finally, last season we were able to begin our return to in-person music with two Saturday evening concerts, as well as a sensory/ausm friendly program for families.
