03 04 Story: Adventure at the zooSoon, they put their plan into action to educate other children about the animals’ habits and the importance of animal life. Day by day, the behavior of the zoo visitors changed, as they stopped making fun of the animals and appreciated them for all the great things they offer. The zoo animals were very happy. As for the two kids, they decided to become vets when they grow up, so they could talk to animals every day! On a sunny, spring day our two little friends decided to visit the city’s large zoo. While walking around the trail paths, they discovered something very strange: they were able to listen to the animals talk and even answer back to them! Their joy was so great that they visited the zoo every day to chat with their new friends. Many animals would gather around to talk to the kids and play with them. Seven animals became their closest friends: an elephant, a giraffe, an ostrich, a hare, a deer, a kangaroo and a crocodile. The kids would listen to whatever problems the animals had and try to help in every way they could. In general, the animals liked living in the zoo as the food was nice and the zoo keepers treated them nicely. But, they were feeling really sad because of the zoo visitors who knew very little about them and their way of life. Some visitors would make fun of the elephant’s large ears, the crocodile’s big mouth or the giraffe’s enormous neck. Others would laugh when the hare, the kangaroo and the deer run away after a loud noise or would point at the ostrich’s tiny wings. The animals were very sad about this situation and thought of leaving the zoo. The children didn’t want to lose their friends, so they decided to do something about it. They read books and searched the internet in order to gather information and interesting facts about each animal. Their idea was to share these with the zoo visitors, so that they will understand why the animals look and behave the way they do.

Their trunks continue to grow their whole life just like the human nose. They communicate with each other through chest rumbles and bugling and can live for 60 years or more.Did you know? The elephant's gestation period (pregnancy) is 22 months! It is the longest period than any other land animal in the world. Α newborn elephant baby can weigh up to 260kg (570 pounds). Baby elephants stand up shortly after being born usually with a little help from mom. Build an Elephant model

19 20Adventure at the seaThe children turn towards the voice’s direction and oh my! A small fish that looks like a discus fish!“Hello Mr. discus fish. Your house looks so interesting!”, says Alex.“Thank you! I am not a discus fish, though I look like one! May I introduce you to my family?”, says the fish.“Oh, apologies! Yes, we would love to meet your family!”, the children exclaimed.“Everyone, come out! We have some humans visiting us this afternoon!”The discus fish and the children played together for the rest of the day and they had a good time.Alex and his friends are getting ready to enter the submarine and go on an amazing adventure in the ocean! Alex and his friends adore the underwater world and want to know everything about it. They can’t wait to discover all sorts of sea creatures, aquatic flora and maybe... shipwrecks!“I can’t wait!”, says Jessica.“We’re going to have a good time!”, says Alex. The other children cheerfully agreed.Without further ado, the children enter the submarine through the huge, heavy shaft and off they go deep down the sea! The deep blue ocean belt looks mesmerizing through the round windows in the submarine. The children are thrilled; never in their lives have they seen something more beautiful.“Let’s make a stop right here, this place looks majestic”, says George. The rest of the children agree with George and turn off the submarine’s engines. They put on their special diving suits and one by one, they make their way into the deep ocean through the shaft.Colorful oceanic shrubs, shoals of thousands of small fish, sea turtles, lobsters, golden sands and pink coral reefs are some of the things the children encountered in the deep blue ocean. Suddenly, Emma spots a huge rusty anchor!“Come see!” she exclaims to her friends. The children gather around the grandiose anchor to better observe it.“That’s my home!“, a high-pitched voice is overheard in the background.
