Ilived in Winona until the summer of 1993 and moved to Van Buren, where I attended school from Kindergarten through my Senior year.Growing up, I didn’t have a favorite subject, but I enjoyed history andliterature classes. And let’s be honest, lunch was probably myfavorite! When I'm not at school, I enjoy spending time with my husband,Brandon, and our children, Ryder, Reid, and Sloan. Away fromteaching, I love supporting Winona’s athletic teams—Go Wildcats! Ialso enjoy watching Ryder, Reid, and Sloan play sports and spendingquality time with my family at the river.I became an aide in 2013-2014 and realized teaching was my truecalling. I love making connections with my students and celebratingtheir successes. I strive to make learning fun, like when my 8thgraders solved a murder mystery before our mystery unit. I believelearning takes hard work, and with persistence, anyone can succeed. My favorite book is the Bible; at home, we have a fish named Bob andsome cows. I played many sports in high school and earned awards ineach. If I could travel anywhere, I’d love to visit Hawaii. In theclassroom, I hold students to high standards, expect them to beprepared, and support them every step of the way as they worktoward success.TEACHER INTERVIEWMRS. VOYLESTEACHER INTERVIEWMRS. Mrs. Cardenas grew up in Elgin, Illinois, just outside of Chicago, and she’s a big fan of theCubs! Her favorite subject in school was Chemistry because she loved learning about howthings work. She has 3 sisters and a brother, so she knows what it’s like to have a busy familylife. Outside of school, she enjoys watching baseball, riding UTVs with her family, andtraveling.Teaching is Mrs. Cardenas’ second job. She decided to become a teacher because of theflexibility it offers, especially with summers off to spend time with her family. Her favoritepart of teaching is getting to know her students and building relationships with us. She lovesjoking around and making class fun.She keeps things interesting by adding games and activities, though she says it’s a bit harderin health class since we only meet once a week. One thing she wants us to know is that youdon’t have to go to college to be successful—going into a trade can be just as valuable. Here are a few fun facts about Mrs. Cardenas: Her favorite book is The Silent Patient by AlexMichaelides, she doesn’t have pets, and she can touch the tip of her nose with her tongue! Ifshe could go anywhere, she’d go to a Disney park because it’s the "Happiest Place on Earth."In class, she expects everyone to be respectful. Mrs. Baysinger grew up in Eminence, Missouri, and is no stranger to Shannon County. Her favoritesubject in school was Math, as she appreciated the certainty of having a definite answer. She hasone older brother and, outside of school, enjoys decorating and rearranging her house—inside andout—spending time at Current River, riding UTVs, and playing with her grandchildren. While in college, Mrs. Baysinger took an elective course that involved tutoring adults who struggledwith reading. She wanted to make adifference by helping children acquire the essential skills needed to function in society and, ultimately, to thrive in life. Her favorite parts of teaching include building meaningful relationshipswith her students and seeing the "lightbulb" moment when a student grasps a concept.Mrs. Baysinger enjoys incorporating hands-on activities into her lessons and emphasizes theimportance of applying skills to real-life situations. She believes that learning is a lifelong journey.A few fun facts about Mrs. Baysinger: her favorite movies are The Rock (1996), Black Sheep, andTommy Boy. After nearly 23 years of teaching, it’s difficult for her to pick just one favoritememory, but she cherishes the relationships she has built with both students and staff throughouther career.
