WINTER WHITE WEDDINGS In the lane snow is glistening and and winter brides are busy planning their special day Winter is such a magical time of the year when you live in the north and love the outdoors We ve jotted down a few tips to help when planning that magical day

Page 5

TIMING is everything Scheduling too close to the Holidays Steer clear of dates that could coincide with get togethers like Thanksgiving Christmas and New Year s as these are three of the biggest holidays of the year Winter is not prime wedding season This means vendors are likely less booked than normal Use this to your advantage and try to negotiate with vendors for better prices You might be surprised with what you re able to come up with The sun sets earlier in the winter If you are envisioning the sun streaming through the church s stained glass windows start your ceremony earlier Make sure your schedule allows for pictures to be taken before loosing the natural light

Page 6

Booking Multiple Locations Long distances or too much venue changing during the day in bad weather and traffic will stress out both you and your guests Having one venue for everything allows you and the guests to eliminate excess travel and you don t have to worry about the weather With one less thing to worry about you can Just enjoy the day Failing to Pad the Schedule More often than not you might experience some inclement wedding day weather and it on your may not necessarily be accounted for when you plan your day of itinerary ahead of time Give yourself guests and staff alike some form of a cushion when it comes to arrival and setup that way your day will go off without a hitch

Page 7

DECOR X Try to keep away from Christmas d cor and colors unless it is a Christmas concept wedding Think wedding not Christmas party Similarly snowflakes may be beautiful but they re also clich when it comes to winter weddings Unless you really really love them try to think of some other motif for your wedding Try using hanging crystals and white paper birch trees the bigger the branches the more dramatic the look Think magical snow covered trees candles white twinkle lights and hanging crystals icicles Flowers So you want peonies and dahlias for your wedding flowers Problem is they are not in season and if you must have them know that they are going to be more expensive Consider in the winter alternative arrangements like flower orchids snowberries and roses

Page 8

WINTER STYLE A winter wedding is the perfect time to transport your wedding to a different place and time a location in which fur hats are the norm and epic romance is recorded in equally grand novels This Russian influenced style is ideal for brides having their wedding during frigid temps If your looking for style inspiration look to old movies like Doctor Zhivago Gather up your girlfriends and indulge in the stunning winter landscape romantic clothing and beautiful sleigh rides I guarantee it s swoon worthy have your the tissues on hand

Page 11

Depending on your wedding s location and venue you may want to consider a warm cover up or accessory for any outdoor photos on your big day Many brides often forget this and feel too uncomfortable in wintery weather that they skip on some great shots to add to their wedding album Even if you don t plan any photos or activities outside at all you still need to consider the cold outdoor temperatures Simply walking to a limo might be enough to bridesmaids freeze in your chillier climates Remind them to bring shoes and coats that will keep them warm and if you plan to spend more time outdoors it s a good idea to invest in coordinated attire First looks can be cold If you re doing your first look for the camera outdoors give yourself at least 15 minutes before you head down the aisle It s cold outside which can lead to a runny red nose and freezing hands and who wants all that at the altar

Page 12

GUEST LIST The B List The Dos and Don ts Deciding who you want to invite to your wedding can be stressful especially if you plan to have a smaller event There are so many people from every stage of your life as well as your partner s so who do you choose Also you will need to consider the fact that not everyone will be able to make it This is where that all important B list comes in When you need to create a second guest list it s important to tread carefully which is why we have put together a list of dos and don ts Do Start Early The sooner you can make an A and B list the better If your family is planning to invite guests of their own give them a deadline for those names Being able to finalize your A list by getting RSVPs early on will ensure you re not inviting anyone from your B list too late in the game Aim to send your invites at least 8 10 weeks before the wedding if you have a second guest list This gives you more time to ensure you re not hurting anyone s feelings It s also highly recommended that you use digital RSVPs to speed up the process

Page 13

Don t Tell Everyone About Your B Guest List When you re dealing with a B list it s best to keep your guest list a under wraps until further notice You never know who might let slip that they were on the A list leaving you in an awkward position Your wedding planner family and bridal party are the only people you need to discuss your guest list with just make sure everyone is aware that there s a B list Do Sort Your B List It really helps to know which people on your B list you would prefer to have at your wedding by placing them at the top of the list This way once guests start falling off your A list you know who to send an invite to first By keeping these simple dos and don ts in mind you can avoid any guest list awkwardness as you plan your wedding

Working with Your Wedding Officiant As you get closer to your wedding day you re going to need to find someone to lead the ceremony You will probably have quite a few questions for your officiant but they will have a few for you too Here is some of the information you should prepare prior to meeting with your wedding officiant 1 Details of the Day As you can imagine your officiant will firstly want to know who you are as a couple as well as when and where you plan to get married This will help determine their availability 2 The Vision for Your Ceremony Next your officiant will want to know more about how you would like to remember your wedding ceremony Be prepared to describe your ideal ceremony and how you want guests to remember the moment You can also make a list of what you liked and didn t like at other wedding ceremonies so that your officiant knows what to avoid 3 Your Relationship To make your ceremony as relevant and personal as possible your officiant will more than likely ask how you met and when you fell in love You don t have to provide every small detail your officiant just wants to understand more about who you are as a couple You can even provide the details of your engagement as this also offers valuable insights

Page 23

4 How You See Your Partner To help your officiant learn more about who you are as individuals they might ask you to describe your partner How are they similar and different to you What traits do you love the most and why are you marrying them 5 Your Wedding Party and Guests Since your officiant will also be in the same room as all your guests and your wedding party they might want to know more about the people in your lives How did you pick your wedding party and who is on your guest list Is it more family friends or a combination of both 6 Traditional or Contemporary Next your officiant will want to know more about your beliefs and whether you want to include any particular readings in your ceremony This could be anything from poetry to passages from your favorite book If there are any specific traditions or rituals you want to include in our ceremony this is a good time to discuss them Choosing the right officiant for your wedding is important so don t rush the decision or feel that you have to go with the first officiant you meet Its important to connect with him her Choose someone who understands your visions and is willing to customize your ceremony making it unique to you David Price Officiant Priceless Celebrations www pricelesscelebrations 4pricelesscelebrations gmail com
