15Since September 2022, our cranes have been operating full-time at the Cargill site. Throughout this period, our dedicated crew and multiple operators have collaborated closely with the site owner, Cargill, and the contractor, Graham, to ensure seamless operations. “We had 19 men tied o to pieces of metal hanging there waiting for the next piece. Without the VLN, it would’ve been extremely dicult to move those towers around; we would’ve used 200 ft. of taglines and a shorter one attached so the guys could’ve grabbed and maneuvered it,” said Randy. “Because we had the VLN, it made the operation so much safer and more ecient.” -Randy LeRoux, Branch Manager Sterling Crane17Congratulations to Wade Henrickson for your exemplary site supervision and to Gary Bozak for your meticulous pre-planning, crane selection, site supervision, and rigging design. 04Co-op ReneryThe North Regina skyline is undergoing a remarkable transformation during the 2024 Turnaround, with around 31 cranes dotting the landscape, signifying progress and innovation in construction. Over the span of April 5th to June 1st, a staggering 31,500 man-hours have been dedicated to this monumental eort. Surprisingly, the project has encountered minimal risks or struggles, a testament to the eciency and dedication of the teams involved. One notable success story of this endeavor is the implementation of plastic 2-step stools for crane operators. 09This year’s successful shutdown at the mill was led by a dedicated team of operators, including Jason Ellingson, Irene Elliott, Rob Colbourne, Mike Phillips, Justin Fyn (Operating/C&R), and Andrew Parsons (C&R). Despite some challenges posed by the relative inexperience of two operators, the team demonstrated exceptional skill and perseverance. Our annual tasks often involve navigating cranes into extremely tight spaces, requiring precise coordination and experienced spotters. One particularly challenging task involved operating a crane on the chip pile, which presents a barge-like environment due to the unstable ground. Additionally, our work under the kilns demanded precise maneuvering, as we had to position a crane between two trommels with minimal clearance for swinging.A signicant challenge this year was positioning our 270-ton LTM 1220 crane to access a ash tank and valve system for removal and reinstallation. This required meticulous planning, including the removal of stairs and hoarding to ensure adequate clearance for the crane’s counterweight. Successfully executing this task in such conned spaces was a notable achievement for our team.VICTORIA BRANCH - ADVANTAGE CRANEBritish Columbia

23The Connected Operations Award for Excellence in Systems Eciency recognizes organizations that make data go further by transforming systems to improve operational eciency, utilization, and productivity of eet and equipment. This year’s winner modernized their eet operations, leading to signicant eciency gains in compliance and maintenance less than a year into deployment. This achievement would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our Maintenance Team. Over the past few years, they have tirelessly troubleshooted, repaired, and exchanged GPS devices provided by our previous vendor. Additionally, we faced chal- lenges with installing ELD devices that failed to connect to our units. In June 2023, Samsara entered the picture. Initially, there was some doubt about whether they could solve our telematic and ELD issues. However, our technicians installed nearly 900 devices in a very short period during our busiest time of the year. The results were immedi- ately positive, and we saw instant benets. Despite a few small bumps over the past twelve months, Samsara has overall exceeded ourexpectations. We are excited to share that Sterling Crane Canada has been recognized by Samsara with the 2024 Connected Operations Award for Excel- lence in System Eciency! This award highlights MARCO GOODRIDGE Winner of the Samsara Connected Operations Award for System Efciency!
24SCC’s eorts to maximize data utilization by transforming systems to enhance operational eciency, utilization, and productivity of our eet and equipment. By modernizing our eet operations, we achieved signicant eciency gains in compliance and maintenance within less than a year of deployment. We improved driver productivity and Hours of Service (HOS) compliance, resulting in savings of over $1.2 million using Samsara’s ELD solu- tion and Driver App. Additionally, we saved over $517,000 in annual labor costs with accurate vehicle data and $129,000 in one-time hard- ware and labor costs by switching to Vehicle Telematics. Furthermore, we anticipate saving over $2.5 million annually in major maintenance costs for our on-road and o-road eet by using Samsara to inform our preventative maintenance program.
