This is another in a long line of new musicals, from Floyd Mutrux’s Heartbreak Hotel (2017) and the riotous comedy Grumpy Old Men (2018), to the iconic film adaptations of Mystic Pizza (2021) and the Burt Bacharach-infused My Best Friend’s Wedding the Musical (2024). We hope the memories stirred by this experience will be a love letter from us to you. The show is not only a theatrical retelling, but a lens through which we examine these amazing artists in their very different and complex stages of fame and success.Amazingly, we now find ourselves at the doorstep of closing our 93rd season with the sweeping epic TITANIC THE BROADWAY MUSICAL, delivered by director Shaun Kerrison who has created some of The Playhouse’s most loved audience favorites – Hunchback of Notre Dame, Les Misérables, Witches of Eastwick, South Pacific, and My Fair Lady. I’m so proud of our Education team, who have created not only two joyful productions but also lasting memories for every young person involved.This summer also brought a once-in-a-lifetime moment: welcoming Bernadette Peters back to the Playhouse—59 years after her debut here—for an unforgettable Gala event. I couldn’t be prouder of our production team, who collaborated seamlessly with her touring company, and our Company Management team, who handled the many moving parts with poise and care. To execute such a major event in the middle of our season was no small feat—but our staff and volunteers rose to the occasion, delivering a flawless evening that resulted in record-breaking contributions.While the magic on stage is what our audiences see, so much of what makes the Playhouse extraordinary happens behind the scenes—often unseen, but never unappreciated. 11SCAN & BUYThe 1950s ushered in a new style of music - “Rock and Roll”. And there was no one bigger or better than Elvis Presley. You could argue he became the world’s first superstar, and for a time, he was the undisputed King of Rock and Roll. Then, in 1963, four British lads from Liverpool changed everything when they landed in New York City, and turned the world on its head. The Beatles performance on The Ed Sullivan show in 1964 changed the musical landscape forever. And Elvis Presley certainly took notice. A chance for them to meet seemed like destiny.The story we’re telling tonight is the real account of when these titans of music came together one night in the Hollywood Hills to play music, share stories, and rediscover their musical roots. There are no pictures or films of that evening. It only lives in the memories of the surviving Beatles and in the book written by Chris Hutchins, the British reporter who made it all happen. The ultimate dream would have been to see them playing together one day in a mega-concert. Of course, this never would happen with Elvis’s death in 1977, John Lennon’s death in 1980 and George Harrison in 2001.But tonight, through the magic of the theatre, we can bring these two legends together again, to tell their stories and play their incredible music. And it’s our hope that we allow them to be fully human again, with all their frailties and flaws. He was the Production Manager at Jungle Theater for six years and before that, was the PM at Mixed Blood Theatre Company, both in Minneapolis. As a Production Manager, Matt has had the opportunity to work with many talented performers, designers, and technicians and is excited to be in his second season at Ogunquit Playhouse. KENNEY (Executive Artistic Director) is also a producer, director for stage and film, and an artist. He is particularly passionate about the preservation of our nation’s historic theaters, ensuring their relevance for tomorrow’s audiences, and grateful to steward Ogunquit Playhouse as it approaches its 100th anniversary. Since arriving in 2005, The Playhouse has tripled its audience, growing from an acclaimed Summer Stock theater into one of America’s preeminent year-round regional theaters, with productions staged in multiple states. During Brad’s stewardship, The Playhouse has garnered numerous awards and honors including the Moss Hart Trophy for Outstanding Achievement in the American Theatre, and multiple IRNE and Broadway World awards. Beyond having great pride in overseeing more than 94 Playhouse productions, Brad is closely involved in the development of America’s theatrical canon through the Ogunquit Playhouse New Works Program, guiding the curation and development of new theatrical experiences, including The DaVinci Code, Frida The Musical, Mommie Dearest The Musical, Heartbreak Hotel, Mystic Pizza, Christmas in Connecticut, Mr. Holland’s Opus, and The Nutty Professor. Brad was formerly the Artistic Director of the Foothills Theatre and Wachusett Theatre Companies in Massachusetts. Deborah has held senior-level positions at Disney Theatrical Productions, where she managed productions of The Lion King and the national tour of Aida. She also served as a consultant for global productions of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. Deborah’s other regional work includes leading the marketing for the two-year run of Wicked in Los Angeles and North American productions of Jersey Boys. Her career in the theatre began as a Broadway publicist at Manhattan Theatre Club in New York. She has held leadership roles at Hartford Stage, New Dramatists, and Berkshire Theatre Festival. From welcoming our first audience on a 1933 Summer evening in a renovated garage in Ogunquit’s town square, to earning national and international recognition for our countless comedic, dramatic, and musical productions, The Playhouse has grown from an ambitious 10-week company to an inspiring year-round, award-winning, self-producing Regional theater. The earliest days of one-week runs and Summer Stock tours evolved over time into what is now a 25-week mainstage season of showstopping productions, with a beloved annual holiday show at The Music Hall in Portsmouth. Our audiences have seen it all – splashy musicals, side-splitting comedies, edgy mysteries, and gripping dramas, starring some of the biggest names in the industry. Elaine Stritch, Buddy Ebsen, Helen Hayes, William Shatner, Cybil Shepherd, BD Wong, Keala Settle, Michael Urie, Latrice Royale, and so many more have spent Summers on our historic stage enthralling theatre lovers of all ages.
