CORNER
Editor’s
The newsletter started as a two page
“Call to Action” during the period of
denial by the city of Longview to what
they had done to our community with
their lax policies around the “homeless”
issue.
Readers took an interest and kept
wanting more. Now we have grown into
the “Watchdog of Cowlitz County” with
circulation over the entire county.
We walk door to door through the
entire county passing out our
newsletters and gradually informing you,
our readers, on the local political scene.
Most people are no different from me
in my earlier life, little time, but an
interest in what’s going on and a thirst
for real information, knowledge, and
understanding.
First of all, we'd like to thank you
for reading our magazine, we are
grateful.
Many of you have been reading our
content for a long time, others are
just beginning to see it available for
free around town. For those of you
who don’t know us, it is time to
introduce ourselves.
My name is Larry. I have lived in the
local area since 1972. I have had an
interest in politics. However, I did not
have the time to get involved. I did
pay attention but the more I paid
attention the more I suspected it was
a dirty game. Thus – I observed
and ignored.
A couple of years ago I was looking
over the political landscape and
realized how far the founding ideals
and values of our republic have fallen.
I am a really old guy (80) and I
decided I had better spend a few of
my remaining years trying to make up
for my lifelong inattention and
inaction. Thus, my introduction to
local politics.
Attending County Commissioner
Meetings is how I started. Before long
I received an invitation to help with
Camp Alabama from the residents in
the Highlands.
Over the past two years, we've spoken
with thousands of you as our neighbors
and friends. We met you as we walked
your neighborhood and now you receive
our publication in your email.
You can also find our newsletter at
local businesses. We’ve spoken with
prominent business leaders, public
employees, and elected officials too.
The topic on everyone’s mind is
“homeless”, but in a broader sense
it is about “Public Safety”. Public
Safety covers a lot of ground.
In the following pages, you’ll find the
common sense ideas that we will be
presenting to our local leaders, officials,
and the community at large. This
comprehensive, and well-documented
roadmap is a targeted plan on how to
approach this broad topic.
Consider this a strategic starting
point. It is well researched and it’s based
on what has worked in various societies
over the last 300 years.
Today’s problems are nothing new.
We do not need to reinvent the wheel.
We hope you enjoy your reading and
enjoy learning more. Please also
subscribe so that you are kept up to
date, and this 80-year-old man doesn’t
have to get out in the cold and rain to
bring you your personal copy, as much
as I like seeing you, our responsibilities
are growing and our volunteers are
taxed. (Pardon the Pun)
Larry
That led to more and more exposure
and involvement in local politics. To say
that I was appalled with the entire
system in our community would be an
understatement.
Each experience opened another
door, behind it was usually something
unpleasant.
Now just a couple of years later we
have an active volunteer base with our
organization attending and writing
about most of the city, county, and
school board meetings in Cowlitz
County.
