Walker Sports Audit I Black Progress MattersI am looking forward to possibly launching Walker Sports Audit and our Advacovery service as a Black ProgressMatters Minority Owned Incubated Business.AdvacoveryThe Advacovery concept goes back to 1998. Back then, after letting my CEO, Art Wingerter, go, I had CharlieChampiou and the CTBK accounting team review and refile my tax returns from 1994, 1995, and 1996. When itwas all said and done, Charlie and his team had earned me a $1M tax refund.In the 90’s, after helping to launch the firm at the Walker Center in 1994, I still had a managing interest in CTBK,so Charlie and I negotiated a contingency fee instead of CTBK’s usual flat fee. With the $1M recovery, it turnedinto a $300k windfall for CTBK [instead of their standard audit and filing fee of $30k]. From there, I wanted tomake it an ongoing contingency fee service of CTBK, but Charlie didn’t want to pursue it, so I began working onthe Advacovery concept.Walker Sports AuditOver the years, going back to the original Stereo Advantage in 1978, we have been taken advantage of bynumerous employees, family, friends, relatives, customers, suppliers, criminals, and thieves. Embezzlement,theft, damage, and destruction come from all directions in a constant storm.It seems like everyone has their hand in the cookie jar.In 2015, Tim Duncan accused his former advisor of bilking him out of over $20M. At the time, he said, “Iknow what I am doing. It’s not like I was squandering my money or being irresponsible. I am aprofessional athlete, and I am constantly on the road. I did the appropriate thing and hired professionaladvisors to watch over my money and my investments. The problem was there was no one watchingthem.” In 2018, Tim settled for a recovery of $7.5M. It was the best he could do, while his advisor,Charles Banks, was eventually sentenced to four years in federal prison for defrauding him.Tim Duncan’s story, along with countless other stories [including mine], encouraged me to finally launch WalkerSports Audit and Advacovery in 2015. Unfortunately, at that time - and ever since then - I have not been able tofind the right partner. I have had a few staggered starts, but never what I felt it should be.Nevertheless, the need for Walker Sports Audit and Advacovery has only grown more critical.I have always understood the importance of Walker Sports Audit and Advacovery because the Advantage Cohas repeatedly needed audit and recovery services - and we know what we are doing. I have a degree inFinance from BC, I have been in business for 42 years, and I have a great accounting team at Advantage GlobalResources, but time and again, we have had to confront embezzlement and deceit from our most trustedadvisors, employees, partners, friends, and even in-laws. Bank AccountNow that Dave has incorporated Walker Sports Audit as a C Corporation in Florida, we will be able tostart the process of opening a bank account [most likely with Everbank]. I will initially fund the accountwith $100k. This should be adequate funding for the launch of the company. I have earmarked another$150k in order to fund our accounts receivable for when we start engaging clients.2. The WebsiteSince there is no need for eCommerce at this time, I have taken the path of least resistance andlaunched the site with GoDaddy’s Website Builder. The Board of DirectorsI have gotten positive feedback from some key people that I would like to involve in this start-up. I havereached out to a very small group of potential participants, but next week I will begin to solicit teammembers publicly. The key to our team will be the Board of Directors. This group will be the face of thecompany, and they will provide the confidence that will be essential to our clients. It goes without sayingthat the agents, lawyers, accountants, family, friends, etc. [trusted advisors] will be investigatingeveryone that is involved with WSA. The scrutiny will be intense, and we will have to make certain thatwe stand up to even the most severe vetting. Of course, we have been through this with the Departmentof Defense and SEC, so I am certain that with the appropriate due diligence, we will be able to stand tallthrough any review process.4. The StaffInitially, the BoD will be doing most of the front room work, but we will be relying on Advantage GlobalResources for the backend support. The sales team will be strictly on commission, and it will be anaggressive and rewarding program. We will also be paying a referral fee to clients who successfully referus.
