AT TEMPTING GREAT THINGS FOR GOD Sharing the Love of Jesus NOVEMBER 2019
JP S JOURNAL BY JONATHAN CEO Caring For Life AT TEMPTING GREAT THINGS FOR GOD Greetings once again from everyone at Caring For Life We hope and pray that you are all in good heart Can I first of all please just thank all of you who joined with us on 12th October for the day of prayer to bring before the Lord those souls who have been entrusted to our care the provisions needed to sustain this ministry and also to praise God for who He is and all that He is doing I was personally aware of God s presence that day and those of us who work here at Caring For Life who met together that morning for prayer will testify that we were blessed and encouraged to know that you were there with us in spirit I have said this many times before isn t it wonderful to be united as one body in and through and by the Saviour s love And isn t it wonderful to be in a relationship with each other a relationship that spurs us on all the more to live for Jesus and the glory of God I would like to tell you about a conversation I ve just had in the Centre over lunch with one of our dearly loved beneficiaries This gentleman sat with me and spoke for about 30 minutes He just poured out his heart to me recounting some of the abuse and traumas suffered by him from the past and how they make him feel so angry inside Thanks to all of you who joined with us on 1 12th October for the day of prayer
I thank the Lord that we get opportunities like that to be invited into the hearts lives and minds of such damaged people It is a privilege to just listen to all the memories and disappointments I so wish that I could do something to take away that pain and to replace those nightmares with happy memories and a hope for the future but sadly I can t that God understands and hears every cry of anger pain and frustration Of course the best part is that he doesn t just hear and know but that He can do something about those things if only we will allow Him to break in and take captive all those things that seek to destroy us God understands and hears every cry of anger The gentleman explained pain and frustration to me that all his thoughts are twisted up like a ball of string and I don t seem to be able to unravel them I reminded him Now back at my desk I remembered these that even though he doesn t know how to words from the Lord spoken through the start there is One who does know how to prophet in Deuteronomy There is no one start to unravel them like the God of Jeshurun who rides on the heavens to help you and on the clouds in He knew Who I was talking about His majesty The eternal God is your refuge He replied and said Yes I know He and underneath are the everlasting arms understands And that s the start you know He will drive out your enemies before you to believe that He does understand to know saying Destroy him 2
JP S JOURNAL CONTINUED The promise that God will help us is wonderful but other promises are seen here too He will hide us from the evil one He will hide us from the glare of the accuser and He will hold us tight and never let us go The gentleman I spoke to reminded me about the story of the footprints in the sand He also described that he sees Satan pulling him down by the leg but that God has a hold of his hand and won t let go I replied by adding to that saying Yes and Jesus has His arms around you and one of His hands is snapping Satan s fingers one by one from your leg and he is saying to you You are mine I believe that this man is the Lord s Please pray that this precious soul would know the help hiding and the holding of the Lord Jesus this day and every day Isn t God so very good in that He has given us these opportunities to have conversations like this and an opportunity to declare the glorious gospel of Jesus in both word and deed His gospel and this ministry are bearing much fruit for the glory of God Even though the challenges are great our God is greater still and even though the destructive but attractive temptations of the world are super seductive the irresistible love and grace of God is burning light and hope into that dark place changing lives Hallelujah for that Just to close out this month s message I want to leave you with a quote taken from a little book written by my dear friend and trustee of Caring For Life Paul Pease who quotes William Carey that wonderful missionary to India when he said Expect great things from God and attempt great things for God Please pray that together we shall be given the faith to expect and to attempt great things for the glory of God and the extension of His kingdom here on earth Praise my soul the King of heaven At His feet thy tribute bring May the Lord bless and keep you all 3
HARVEST THANKS We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Lord for all He gives us Just as He provided daily manna for the Israelites we too are provided with our daily manna from heaven Your offerings will enable us to feed hundreds of people in their own homes and to provide thousands of meals to those who attend the farm projects throughout the year We also want to thank the Lord for you our individual supporters and your churches who have partnered with us in the gospel and who have given so generously throughout this year s harvest time As you all know food banks up and down the country are in great demand and our food parcel provision is no different Your expressions of love and compassion will above all things we pray cause the recipients to think about the Lord and His provision Your response in sending food to us has been overwhelming and the response in sending financial gifts instead of food has also been incredible We pray that they shall come to know the One who gives us our daily bread who quenches our thirst and the One who gives us what we need His manna from heaven Thank you is wholly inadequate but on behalf of everyone at Caring For Life Thank you
SEEING THE LORD ANSWER BY GAYLE Pastoral Director As you will be aware the UK is facing a significant housing shortage including social housing and we can certainly report feeling the effects of this in Leeds Our Being There team find it very hard to access safe housing for the people they support despite being presented with urgent needs Local authority housing seems almost impossible to find and many affordable private rented flats are in unsafe areas where we wouldn t want to house vulnerable people We pray for God to work in amazing ways to provide for these needs and it has been wonderful to see the change in people s lives when safe housing can be found We would love eventually to have good quality housing in safe areas that is owned by Caring For Life so that we can house people happily as well as support them to maintain their tenancies A few stories follow of precious people we support Please pray for them and others like them and for our team who are working hard to support them and to share Jesus love with them 5 A young Mum is currently being taken regular food parcels from Caring For Life so that she can spend some of her income on improving her house She has a learning disability and has been taken advantage of by others She has a little girl with extra needs who uses sign language to communicate Although Mum has a learning disability she can sign brilliantly to chat to her young daughter When we first met this young lady she was being preyed on financially These incidents are not rare but are sadly the norm for some of our vulnerable people It is our great privilege to be on their side and to support them when perhaps no one else will We are so grateful for the harvest coming in enabling us to continue to take out food parcels to people like this young Mum
PRAYER A Dad and his young son having gone through the trauma of losing the little boy s Mum were living in a one bedroom flat with Dad sleeping on the sofa each night The local authority was refusing to consider a move as he owed rent We looked into the case and found he only owed rent due to his benefits stopping Due to health issues he couldn t keep up with what was being asked of him at the job centre to claim Job Seekers Allowance so his money was stopped along with his housing benefit hence the debt he supposedly owed It was all a terrible mess Once we helped him sort it he was allowed to bid for properties again and he is about to move into a lovely two bed house One vulnerable lady is currently living in a hostel situation this is a totally unsuitable environment for her We have now found her a flat and she is excited about this new opportunity we will continue to support her with home making We pray for God to work in amazing ways to provide for these needs and it has been wonderful to see the change in people s lives when safe housing can be found 6
