killer of children and young adults Exchanging knowledge and experience globally in order to speed up developments regarding traffic safety is the key to success Many different players in society have to take joint action says Peter Kronberg Safety Director Volvo Group Collaboration needed to reach global goals With its global presence the Volvo Group is playing an active role in increasing traffic safety worldwide At the same time reaching the global goals also requires collaboration and international exchange T H E V O LV O G R O U P S partners in this effort to increase traffic safety include research institutes authorities politicians international organisations and partners within technology development Together with transport companies we are working on driver training and implementing important transport policies such as rest times and load security At the end of the day it s the politicians who draw up legislation set technical requirements and decide how the infrastructure is going to be developed But everything is connected and that s why we have to focus on every dimension The UN s target of halving traffic fatalities is reasonable but achieving it by 2020 was not realistic according to Peter Kronberg At the same time he believes that the international community actually knows which measures are needed to create safer roads The problem is mobilising all the players that are needed and finding cost effective measures that can realistically be implemented The largest number of traffic accidents take place in countries that lack the resources to invest in INTERVIEW INTERVIEW Loraine Sicardi In a recent interview Loraine used three words to describe herself straightforward loyal and easy going The more questions she answered the more evident these traits became Kirk Sutphin Kirk talks about his passion for the NRV Plant and the importance of his team s work K irk is going on his 30th year working for Volvo He s spent the past nine years as Director of Quality but he served in many positions before entering that role At just 26 years old Kirk started in assembly and eventually worked his way through the ranks I started as a production worker and that s why to me the New River Valley is my heart and my soul Kirk continues Working on that production floor is where I started I will never forget that I can still remember what it was like to be out there for eight nine ten eleven twelve hours at a time It s not always easy that s for sure In the years he s been with Volvo three were spent working in Sweden That was a great experience professionally and personally I was responsible for global manufacturing 10 NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 quality as well as product audits for all the factories in the world I traveled to South Africa Australia Brazil and France loads things like that We have a lot of room for improvement there but we re certainly working in that direction Quality and safety assurance are major facets of Kirk s job and crucial processes for the plant With his own experience on the line Kirk is aware of the demanding work required and the necessary systems that must be in place for each truck builder The operator has to be at the center We have to give them everything they need to complete their process If we don t do that as management then we ve failed the operator which could fail the customer When it comes to safety Kirk mentioned how essential it is to his department and for every aspect in the plant Safety is essential because we are people and this is a people business We have 3 500 workers and without them we re not going to build trucks The Quality department is currently collaborating with other departments to improve training on the line which Kirk noted as something that could improve safety around the plant We ve recently been focusing more on the training for the harder ergonomic jobs or operatordependent jobs Working under Whether you work on the line at a desk or have done both like Kirk you are an integral part of the work we do Family and friends you make up the beloved community of the New River Valley Thank you everyone and remember be safe for yourselves and for your families inside and outside of the plant We have 3 500 workers and without them we re not going to build trucks A s a mother of three boys Loraine spends most of her time staying active She and her family love to be outdoors and play games together Taking care of three kids can be hectic she admitted but she still tries to stay involved in a variety of sports Cycling and swimming are two of her favorite things to do but corralling her kids is by far the best In her work as Director of Business Control Loraine is responsible for understanding operations in the plant and its financial consequences as well as offering projections and insights as to what the plant needs Loraine was quick to note her team s importance in the work they do I have a great time and I m super lucky to have the team I have They ve been here for some time now I like the way we work together We have fun and get along and that s super important It became obvious during the interview that Loraine wants to help others as much as she can and at the mention of safety Loraine immediately thought of a dear friend who also wanted to help others in a phenomenal way He had been a twotime World Champion in snowboarding and sadly he developed cancer in his eyes They detected it late He knew he wanted to do something connected to his own life Three years ago Loraine traveled with her friend and several others into the Himalayan mountain range to help with the Shades of Love organization Approximately 80 of people in high elevation areas suffer from eye damage including high rates of cancer which is why the organization is dedicated to providing these people with sunglasses and education on the risks of sun damage During her three weeks traveling through the mountains Loraine helped distribute 1 500 sunglasses to natives around the area It feels great to be able to do such a thing When you think about others there s always something we can do When we re talking about safety a little type of prevention can go a long way For Loraine there is no difference between her personal and professional life when it comes to safety It starts with my personal life I don t like to separate between on the job and not on the job Being a mom of three boys I m used to the safety side of things I m trying to tell my kids that they have to look at their surroundings and be aware The first to help with security is yourself You are your best friend It s great if we have great systems at home and at work but we need to be acute ourselves because I don t think we will ever have a safe proof world It s important to take a step back sometimes to look at the grand scheme in life and remember that the work we do and how we do it can change the lives of others for the better Be aware Be safe Be an advocate for others and accept help too NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 11

INTERVIEW INTERVIEW Bill Moore Ivan Mitchell In this Q A Ivan Mitchell discusses his responsibilities goals and passions as well as the importance of safety What are your day to day responsibilities as Director of Customer Engineering I work with my team to provide a well managed and trained workforce that is supported and prepared to work with Sales and Marketing and honor customer adaptations We design components to the vehicles applications so they comply with the customer specifications while considering the industrial and quality processes How long have you worked here and how long have you been director in your department I ve been at the NRV Plant for 35 years I started my career with Volvo as a Detailed Draftsman in the Customer Engineering department In 1997 I became the Chief Engineer As far as becoming a director that began around 2007 when I took responsibility of the Quality department as well 14 as the Customer Engineering department After about two years the departments were separated and I remained the Director of Customer Engineering What is something you re passionate about outside of Volvo Family and friends My hobbies are camping fishing golfing cars and cooking I have two Street Rod cars I try to enjoy them when I can and drive every so often I used to go to several Street Show events but not as much now One of my two cars is a 1930 Ford Two Door Sedan and the other is a reconstructed 1920 C Cab Delivery truck Why are you proud to work for Volvo I am passionate about our company our product and our people Like I mentioned cars are a hobby of mine so working with our trucks even though they re on a bigger NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 scale is interesting to me As an employee of a successful company it is gratifying for me to know I had a part in it Why is safety important to you personally Why do you take certain safety precautions every day I want to be safe whether I m at work at home or driving I want to help make sure the people I m around are safe as well whatever those activities may be Safety should always be on our minds It only takes less than a second to become involved in an unsafe act or a precaution that something ends up being unsafe You can t take safety lightly You can t take it for granted because there is always a chance something could go wrong What are some of the steps you re taking to help improve safety around the plant Last year we began Gemba walks Basically once or twice a quarter we select areas and review them in the factory I also participate in a safety walk with a production supervisor once a month At any time in my day today business environment wherever it may be I am cognizant of my surroundings Our safety record does not reflect who we are and the quality trucks we build How can we change this How can we bridge this gap Everyone should recognize safety as a core value from the Volvo Group standpoint and it s not just the product but it s also the people and the environment that we work in When an occurrence is presented employees and management need to step forward to take immediate action and then follow up on those actions to make sure the same accident doesn t occur again Continue the pace of communication and awareness about the importance of safety Let s get everyone involved Director of Assembly Cab Line Offline Bill Moore discusses the topic of safety in the following Q A session A The safety we design into the truck is world class longside his team Bill ensures that KPIs are met from the perspectives of safety quality delivery cost environment and people His department works to be forward thinking and proactive in planning for the future Have you ever heard a driver s testimony of living through a crash in a Volvo truck I remember riding in the car with my mom as a kid and getting the mama slap as soon as she had to quickly hit the brakes Without thinking she instantly reached out to stop me from going into the dash I m sure we ve all experienced something similar either with our own parents or with our children That is the type of response we all owe one another here I went up to a truck show in Louisville I listened to a guy who was an owner operator of a Volvo truck He hadn t had it long and he was involved in an accident that completely wiped out his truck He said that he was able to walk away without a scratch and that when it came time to replace that vehicle he went right back to a Volvo Hearing that of course gives you a lot of pride knowing that you built something like that It s because the safety we design into the truck is world class We ve seen many customer crash testimonial videos where you just look at the truck and say How in the world and then the person walks out What are some of the main safety issues we re seeing at the plant Why are we so behind Why is our record not where it should be How can we improve the culture here at the NRV Plant to one that values safety on the line like they value the safety of their loved ones I think that we are a very large workforce of relatively new people The plant in itself is very dynamic There s a lot of stuff going on There s potential for safety related issues all over the place Let s compare this to sports When you have a very experienced team with a lot of seniors and juniors the coach spends less time on the fundamentals But when those classes have very low experience you spend more time focusing on the fundamentals and getting everything in place That is in my opinion where we are in a big way today We have a lot of new people I played baseball when I was in college and my teammates and I were so close We had a lot of compassion for one another and that spilled over onto the ball field We ended up with a very good team Here at the plant we have to get that compassion for one another so that it becomes automatic when you see somebody doing something unsafe you stop them I think that a lot of people would do that if they were not worried about somebody saying Leave me alone I know what I m doing We ve got to get beyond that because God forbid you ever have the opportunity to stop somebody and you don t and they end up dead How do you explain the importance of safety to your team NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 15

INTERVIEW INTERVIEW Members of the Continuous Improvement team Larry House Larry discusses an important message from the Human Resources team Members of the Kaizen Shop team Terry Griesinger Terry tells a personal story about the safety of his loved ones and explains how and he his team work to maintain each core value at the plant W hen asked about his greatest joys in life Terry Griesinger s first words were Being the father of five and a grandfather of four Being part of the family life is a big passion for me Living here in Virginia with most of the family back in Indiana makes for a lot of fun family trips back and forth Several years back Terry s wife and son were involved in terrible car accident and he received a phone call no one ever wants to get A Ford F 350 the big super duty truck hit them at 50 miles per hour from the rear end no braking or anything The lady in front of them was stopping for ducks walking across the road Due to fortunate timing the minivan his wife and son were in had just recently been packed full with moving items and his son was not sitting in his normal spot He usually sat in the back seat and because they were picking up some moving items they had put the seats down and they had put all kinds 18 NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 of stuff in the back of the van He was in the front seat and I think he was eight or nine years old at the time He would have absolutely been killed if he would have been in the back seat because it moved the rear bumper all the way up to the middle seats Safety features in the van along with some good luck saved the lives of his loved ones When asked about some of the safety features we have in the plant Terry noted that one of the best things we do is start all meetings with a safety moment Safety moments go a long way in sharing that personal touch because they can help shift the culture and bring necessary awareness to safety If we talk about safety and it s one of those Aha moments for you it may save you from getting hurt here It may save someone from getting hurt outside of here In addition to safety moments Terry discussed the positive impact Kaizens have on improving quality and safety When we figure out a safer more effective or more efficient way of doing something over an already standardized process that s a Kaizen It s the ultimate safety improvement On a quick Kaizen when we see a risk we can eliminate the risk and not only can we eliminate it we can standardize it so the issue doesn t come back Even better than that we can spread it horizontally and other people will start doing it When we do that it has the benefit of making problem solving bigger wider and faster than if everybody else had to learn it from the same mistake As Director of Continuous Improvement Terry spends a lot of time thinking about what he and his team can do to implement the most effective changes to decrease waste and loss in the plant ultimately setting the bar high for other companies I think we can gain a sustainable competitive advantage over our competitors if we can get all of the employees here to learn how to seek out waste and loss and help eliminate it Volvo has a long history of being a leader in safety when it comes to the people that manufacture our vehicles Safety has long been and remains one of Volvo s foundational core values At NRV safety is everyone s responsibility as Human Resources Leader it is one of my primary responsibilities We must recognize our need to be safe in all aspects of our lives make a living for our family and to have a good quality of life No one signs up for being injured or to be in pain Everyone deserves a safe work environment There is a significant impact to employees who suffer an injury resulting in lost time on the wages they lose and the resulting impact on their health and family s well being Our journey to achieving worldclass safety performance begins by first understanding our current safety scorecard In essence this is our scorecard as we are all responsible for safety NRV Safety Total Injuries 2018 Recordable Cases 1040 402 Lost Time Days 112 Restricted Days 4211 Restricted Cases 178 Poor safety performance directly impacts the company as we are self insured for worker s compensation meaning the company pays the worker s compensation costs to cover medical expenses and pays for As of June 2019 temporary disability pay 475 Over the last three years NRV has paid close to six 168 million dollars We have 97 to build and sell close to 288 500 trucks just to pay the 27 worker s compensation bill I think you will agree it is not a good report card To be brutally honest everyone would have to agree it is a failing grade Personally I believe we are failing if we have even one injury You might ask How do we compare to our competitors In 2018 we were more than double the industry average which clearly puts us at a competitive disadvantage Unfortunately there are consequences when we do not perform safely whether that is in quality timely delivery to customers or most importantly the safety of our employees Let s first look at this from a quality of life standpoint We all come to work to This year we are on pace to spend over four million dollars in worker s compensation costs That amount of money impacts our competitiveness job security the cost of a truck for a customer and reduces funds we have to reinvest in equipment training new product offerings new technology wages and benefits etc What can we do to change our safety scorecard How do we prevent injuring ourselves or a team member from becoming a safety statistic How do we improve our competitive position The answer is we ALL must be responsible for ourselves and each other Everyone must be engaged in eradicating injuries and accept feedback when it comes to safety Being aware of our surroundings understanding the hazards of the job task we are about to perform wearing the PPE and understanding the safe way to perform the job will help reduce injuries We all need to identify hazards and propose solutions to supervision and safety committee members to eliminate or minimize the hazards before an accident occurs Take care of yourself and others To provide additional support we are launching a new approach to our Occupational Health effort We have partnered with CareHere and BTE in providing Occupational Health professionals and adding new capabilities in a refreshed Occupational Health Center that will open in August We have increased the staffing of Safety professionals who are focused on specific areas of the plant and created new tools for supervision to investigate accidents and identify and eliminate root causes Across Volvo a new safety database will be implemented this fall which will provide tools to analyze data more effectively track injuries and provide data as to where to focus our efforts and money to resolve safety problems Additionally we are involved early on with the design of future products to minimize ergonomic hazards and potential safety risks Thank you for continuing on the journey to be safe Having Active Safety Care and working to be Volvo SAFE INTERVIEW INTERVIEW Jeff s passion for safety stems from a very personal place J eff and his family were on their way to Disney World when their lives almost changed forever While crossing the street to return to their camper he and his family were almost hit by a truck Jeff admits that they had not used the proper pedestrian aisles as they crossed In the middle of the road Jeff was forced to push his kids one way as he fell back in the opposite direction allowing the truck to barrel in between them It was a moment that could have turned their dream vacation into a nightmare but it remains a meaningful reminder that we can never take anything for granted After recalling that scary incident Jeff expressed how important safety is to him personally and professionally as Director of Cab Factory Operations He works alongside his team to ensure that BIW Paint and Maintenance workers have the supportive servant leadership they deserve His mantra is Don t turn your head the other way To him it means that when we see something unsafe we need to have the courage and charisma to address that behavior Based on the current safety record of the plant there are many improvements that can be made individually and as a whole Though it may sound clich one thing that we can all achieve is having a good attitude while we work Coming into the plant with a positive mindset can determine how we 22 NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 work for the rest of the day When we have bad attitudes that makes it even more likely for us to do something unsafe and we can t let that happen When asked about making safety in the plant more personal to everyone at NRV Jeff had this to say What drives people Why do we come to work every day For me personally it s my kids You ve never experienced love until you have a kid You don t understand how much and why your parents do what they do for you until you have a kid It s like a whole different type of love and that s why I come to work every day I want my kids to have it better than I did If I m not around I can t pass on my leadership skills and coach them When my kids come home from school I want to be there Sandra Fin r Sandra has until recently been Director of Engineering and Maintenance in Umea Sweden In this interview she discusses her new role and expectations for when she officially joins the NRV Family in August What are your primary responsibilities as Director of Assembly Chassis Line My primary responsibility is to ensure that we operate the Chassis Line in a safe way and that we produce the chassis in time I am also responsible for overseeing the required quality standards to meet our customers demands both now and in the future To be able to do this we have to have a strong foundation of working with a great team spirit and a constant drive to improve Has there ever been a time in your life when your safety or a loved one s safety was in jeopardy If so what kind of impact did it have on your life as an individual and a team member of Volvo As a mother of three young ones I would say that safety is part of my daily routine My son has hit his head badly a few times and that has made me very aware of dangers around us Safety is something always there at the top of my mind Why is safety especially important to your job The Chassis Line is a demanding work place in any vehicle production plant We handle large components and operate heavy and powerful equipment An incident can lead to very serious injury and it is therefore of the utmost importance that we prioritize our safety work What can members of the NRV Family do better on and off the floor to improve safety I think everyone can bring safety to the top of their mind If you look at the environment in which you work and live with a safety focus you will surely find dangers that could quite easily be eliminated or reduced by changes in design or routines It s also important to remember to report issues that could potentially be harmful not just the accidents that happen We must take a proactive approach Simply asking the 5 Whys when you have a safety issue will give you a root cause that can be used for improvement NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 23

EXOSKELETONS Exoskeletons in Action The Advanced Manufacturing team is working hard to find new and improved ergonomic technology to help reduce common injuries seen around the plant The Advanced Manufacturing team Adam Crowder Jacquelyn Keeney and Jill Flinchum with support from Jason Heinold from Fit for Work is currently working on a project that could benefit the way people work on the line Exoskeletons are a relatively new technology designed to alleviate some of the stress caused by repetitive movements that are commonplace in the manufacturing industry There are no electronics or hydraulics designed into an exoskeleton but rather a support frame created for a specific area of the body that endures stress during the work day The team is doing extensive research of its own to find the best exoskeleton products that people here at the plant could utilize on a daily basis This is no easy task considering the wide range of jobs team members have on the line It s very important to look at each operator and the ergonomics of each situation said Jacquelyn Jill noted that the team s main goal for taking on this project is To send every employee home safe with the energy to do the things they want to do with their families Adam offered a similar perspective by saying We re doing research and validations for this technology because it s so much more than just supporting operators while they re at work We want to give them a better life outside of work too The team s confidence in the new technology is evident in the fact that some folks on the line have already started trials with the support system Ernest Wagner otherwise known as Rocky and David Hourigan have been using two different designs of exoskeletons one for the shoulders and one for the lower back Rocky and David have both noticed a positive difference in their work Rocky said that his exoskeleton kept his arms and shoulders from getting so fatigued when installing overhead speakers David noted that while installing the rear closing cross member and mid bogie on the chassis his exoskeleton reduced soreness in his lower back It might take some getting used to but the team encourages anyone who thinks an exoskeleton will help them to give it a try Be open minded because even if you may not think it would help you the research and the things you learn going through a trial might help someone else who really does need it 24 NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 Rocky installing speakers above his head into the sleeper cab David leans over to work on the chassis NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 25

INTERVIEW Mark Andersen I started taking stuff apart when I was a kid said Mark Andersen our Director of Manufacturing Engineering He s no stranger to the detailed inner workings of any vehicle I think most cars I ve had I ve done something to them I have a habit of switching cars out on a regular basis too His latest project car is a 2003 Corvette and it s a joint project with his wife Holly who he says is learning a lot about working on cars We were under the car together changing out the rear end of the exhaust system It s nice to do it together We put our heads under the hood together and started ripping out some of the valve train and putting some new springs and new roller rockers back in place Then we drove it the next weekend 26 NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 INTERVIEW Wes Mutter These days Mark spends most of his time around some kind of vehicle whether it s inside or outside of the plant but his interest in them developed well before his time at NRV for six hours We both did that together so that was pretty cool While his current position doesn t involve much hands on work with vehicles Mark enjoys the people and strategic side of the job He and his team spend a lot of time creating analyzing and interpreting information and processes that directly impact workers on the line people are trying to do something in a hurry they can put safety aside I think it has to become more natural in our thinking We know there is room for us to grow Making the necessary safety improvements is no small task but it s doable and more importantly vital for who we are as a company If you think about the name When it comes to safety in Volvo what s the first thing that the plant Mark noted one our best strengths as well as comes to your mind Safety an area we need to improve The plant does a really good Mark continues We ve got a brand job of bonding together When we image around safety We need to be need to get something done we re able to wrap our arms around that extraordinary in the way we come idea here at the plant because Volvo together to get trucks shipped out of is safety here I think sometimes though when Wes Program Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Projects discusses his passions in life and the work he does at NRV O ne of Wes Mutter s greatest passions in life is spending time with his 12 year old son They enjoy spending time outside fishing and golfing but their favorite activity to do together is cook He intends to open a restaurant one day Wes recalled fondly huge place There are a million things going on It creates many opportunities for a safety problem At the same time though I really personally believe we have good general safety awareness Anyone you talk to is going to say Yes I m aware I need to be safe but sometimes we don t have that detailed awareness In addition to living an exciting life with his family Wes just recently entered into a busy new management role after 15 years in Business Control He is now Program Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Projects which he describes as Managing the risks that lie between all our projects We have so many big projects going on and really it s recognizing and helping the organization figure out how to manage those risks We make sure we get the end results we re expecting There are good processes for each specific project but we look to make sure they overlap correctly When asked about why he takes safety personally he immediately thought of his family I really notice it every day in the life of my family and my kid especially Every time we get in the car before pulling out I still check even when I know a hundred percent he s buckled up For some reason with our children we take that extra step We don t always do that in our own lives which is funny because ultimately if something were to happen to me it s still going to have a huge impact on my son It makes you think more about what we do every day to stay safe for the ones we love Though he may have a new role at the plant his concern for safety hasn t changed This is a At the heart of every safety precaution Wes takes he thinks of his family How do you stay safe for your loved ones NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 27

INTERVIEW INTERVIEW Marcus Thompson Marcus s love for trucks began with this Texaco Star toy truck he received for Christmas when he was five years old Deidre Dalton In this interview Deidre explains the true meaning behind Volvo Family and how valuable NRV has been to the community I am incredibly thankful for the sustainability that Volvo has provided for me and my family F or seven and a half years now Deidre Dalton has worked as the Executive Assistant to the plant manager position Between being an active member on the NRV Staff organizing events managing Franky s schedule and working as a liaison for the Family Health Center Deidre stays very busy and involved in the hectic schedules of team leaders around the plant 28 loved this company Although he is retired Deidre noted that her dad is still all about Volvo The Volvo Family is especially meaningful to Deidre not only because her father worked here but because several of her family members are here as well Volvo is the heart of Dublin and Deidre remarked how thankful she is for the sustainability that this company has provided for her and her family In addition to her many responsibilities as Executive Assistant Deidre has spent time in a truck as both a driver and co pilot Having her CDL license has allowed Deidre to drive trucks to community events and to sit beside customers in the truck to guide them along the Twin Oaks track When she s not with her Volvo Family Deidre cherishes time with her own family at home Camping or what she calls glamping and watching her son play lacrosse are two of her very favorite things in life Before Deidre began working at the plant her father Alvin had just retired from NRV in 2011 He began with White Motors in 1978 and was eventually laid off but then came back to work for Volvo in 1994 She described her father as very humble quiet and hard working Alvin loved the people he worked with and If you get the chance to meet Deidre you will soon come to know that she shares the same humble hard working spirit as her father The value of family is extremely important to us all here at NRV and because of people like Deidre and Alvin Dalton we can continue the family culture for generations to come NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 Volvo invented the three point seat belt in 1959 and because safety is a core value we gave the technology to the automotive industry That design kept my wife and two young children safe in an automobile accident in 1988 Ten years later a state trooper informed me that a seat belt had saved the life of my teenage son in an accident where he flipped the car over landing on its roof in a creek Seat belts have saved over one million lives three of those were my family Through the years we have heard stories about how Volvo trucks save lives This June a customer who manages a fleet with hundreds of Volvo trucks asked me Do the people here understand what a difference their truck makes in the lives of my drivers I know it can sometimes be difficult to realize the benefit you provide to a customer when there is another truck coming down the line that needs your attention I trust you know that your craftsmanship makes a difference in the life of the customer A lifetime ago I started here in materials and eventually moved to assembly There was no separate paint shop nor a cab plant Our trucks had straight drive transmissions no driver s side airbag and no GPS features Heck there weren t even cell phones or internet back then just 1 205 people working for a better life Two major expansions in the 1990s led to us being 1 6 million sq ft under roof Market conditions led to more demand for trucks and that meant more jobs at NRV Volvo dealers have customers wanting our products With NRV being 3 500 professional truck builders strong today we paint and build more trucks than anyone ever thought possible Unfortunately it looks like we re facing a bit of a softening of our market but one fact to always remember in these circumstances is this every time we come back stronger than before Continuous improvements are laying the foundation for the future Seeing new generations of trucks come to life is as exciting as the birth of a new child in the Volvo Family as are the exciting new projects on the horizon We can look forward to more news of our new 400 MUSD expansions hundreds of additional jobs an electric truck and much more Growing pains will be present for the next few years Expect a roller coaster ride Soon we will be two million sq ft under roof and will encompass over 600 acres of land with room for growth for generations to come I think that is SuperNRVfragilisticexpialidocious My job placed me in a position to experience a vast range of perspectives Seeing you entering the plant to a world where every second counts soon gives way to It s a tough job but worth the challenges Seeing you at the end of the day is a reminder that building trucks takes energy craftsmanship and amazing dedication Have you wondered why we are addressing safety in this magazine Vacations are a time to relax to spend time with family and to forget about work life However on an average day 3 400 people die in traffic accidents It can be easy to let your guard down while on vacation We want to remind you to be safe at work and at play We need you back ready to deliver the best trucks in the world And oh by the way please remember to wear your seat belt NEW RIVER VALLEY 2019 29
