Page 10

YOU NEED A PUSH START On average it takes 144 hours 11 months to plan a wedding Its a production A Wedding Planner Coordinator can help you get the ball rolling so that you can start making all the important decisions They ll help bring your vision together and take care of all the vendors and suppliers who can help bring your day to life YOU RE UNDER THE IMPRESSION YOUR PHOTOGRAPHER WILL HELP WITH PLANNING Yes a photographer can give you some guidance on the timing but they definitely won t be assisting you with any other coordination or wedding planning Your photographer will be able to tell you what time to start getting ready and how much time they ll need for family shots but they won t be able to bustle your dress before you walk down the aisle or make sure that the men s boutonnieres are pinned on properly this is what your wedding planner is for

Page 11

WEDDING PLANNING ADVICE TO IGNORE There s a lot of advice out there for new brides tobe and it can be difficult to decide what advice to take and what to ignore If you re feeling overwhelmed with all of the advice you ve been reading and receiving here are a few wedding planning myths that you can toss aside A TALENTED FRIEND IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS A PROFESSIONAL This is especially relevant when it comes to choosing a photographer Just because you have a friend who takes amazing holiday photos doesn t mean they re prepared or skilled to capture your wedding day

Page 12

EVERY DETAIL NEEDS TO BE PERFECT If you would prefer not to drive yourself mad before your wedding day leave perfection at the door Always always have a PLAN B ready just in case you need to quickly make changes i e your venue is outdoors and now its raining what do you do who s going to move all the chairs inside You ll be in a complete panic if you haven t determined what your alternate plan is PLAN B is the just as important as PLAN A the perfect wedding Your wedding doesn t need to be Pinterest perfect in order for it to be special and memorable DIY IS THE ONLY WAY While DIY is a great way to save money it isn t always the best route Sometimes it s better to pay a professional to assist you with aspects such as your cake catering and even some of your decorating

Page 13

YOU WENT TO THEIR WEDDING SO THEY SHOULD BE INVITED TO YOURS There is absolutely no rule that says you have to invite every single person that invited you to their wedding This is your day and your budget so choose your guests wisely YOU SHOULD BE ENGAGED FOR AT LEAST ONE YEAR There is no rule that says you need to wait at least 365 days before you wed Your timing should be based on your personal preferences and your lives YOU NEED A BIG BRIDAL PARTY This is your wedding and if your future husband only wants his brother at his side on his wedding day while you want all five of your best friends that s ok Just be aware that adding people to your wedding party unnecessarily racks up unnecessary costs IT S OKAY TO GO INTO DEBT TO HAVE THE PERFECT WEDDING You do not have to start your married life with mountains of debt just so that you could have a magazine worthy wedding Decide what s most important to you as a couple and allocate your budget accordingly Invest in your future lifetime together and not a big one day party that will be over in the blink of an eye

Page 14

BEWARE OF WEDDING BRAIN Weddings big or small are extremely emotional The simplest and smallest detail can become a big deal Believe me I speak from experience One day over a very large glass of red wine I will tell you about my daughters wedding I thought it would be a slam dunk after all this is what I do for a living Not

Page 15

I learned first hand that even the most level headed person can become unreasonable As soon as you say wedding something takes over your brain s ability to think and act rationally Scientist s can t explain it The only thing they have come up with is a diagnosis called It just doesn t make sense CONs You need to be prepared and understand that everyone has your best interest at heart and wants to be a part of your big day Don t be surprised if you encounter push back from friends or family There will be those guests who don t make the guest list and can feel hurt by your decision to have just 20 people at your big day You have to be really confident that an intimate wedding is the right decision for you otherwise you may start feeling guilty about the people who are upset by your choice Regardless of the reasons it s absolutely not something that should stop you from having an intimate wedding but it is something to be aware of

Page 16

RULES FOR the PERFECT INTIMATE WEDDING

Page 17

IS THE GUEST LIST BIG ENOUGH Are there more than 20 people that you would have on your dream wedding guest list Put aside the obligations you might feel to invite people s partners and extended family members If you can t narrow down your list to less than 20 a micro wedding might not be for you Don t ignore this rule as you ll regret it if you desperately wish a couple of other friends were there on the day

Page 18

DECIDE ON YOUR MUST HAVES If you go ahead with a micro wedding write a list of nonnegotiables that you want at your wedding You and your partner should each get to say three things that you won t compromise on It could be live music an amazing photographer you ve been following on Instagram a top shelf open bar an outdoor ceremony a delicious meal your dream wedding dress providing accommodation for all your guests a beautiful cake or flower installation You ll likely be working with a smaller budget so prioritize the important things CHOOSE THE APPROPRIATE VENUE A large venue saying they are happy to do small weddings may not be the right thing You do not want to feel lost in a setting that feels too big and amplifies the small numbers You need somewhere just right with plenty of space for everybody to relax but the right proportions for the intimate atmosphere to be created Because of the small number of guests your venue staff need to blend in and be unobtrusive Visit the venue meet the coordinators imagine how you want your day to flow and the atmosphere you want to create Go with your gut feeling of whether you can picture your day there

Page 19

WEAR WHAT FEELS RIGHT Want a 5 000 dress Do it Want to wear a gown costing 250 Also fine The size of your wedding is no indicator of how lavish you can go with the things that matter If that s a dress go for it but if the dress doesn t matter don t feel like you re wearing anything less wedding worthy fortune just because you didn t pay a Feeling special comfortable and confident in is paramount

Page 20

TIPS FOR STRESS FREE WEDDING PLANNING LEARN TO SAY NO Planning a wedding is exciting and fun but it can also be one of the busiest times of your life If you don t want to end up being a nervous wreck before your wedding day learn to prioritize and say no to any new commitments that would take away from other important wedding related tasks BECOME THE QUEEN OF ORGANIZATION The more organized you are the better your wedding planning experience will be Keep a digital copy of all your important documents contracts and information in one file on your computer so you can easily refer back to them when you need to

Page 21

HAVE A LITTLE FUN There s no need for you to be a frazzled bride Take out your calendar and schedule a few fun days between all your wedding planning Make fun and laughter a priority in the weeks leading up to your wedding Sometimes it s important to come back down to earth and remember why you re choosing to marry your partner Or perhaps go out and enjoy an afternoon with the girls where you don t talk about the wedding at all MOVE YOUR BODY Exercise does wonders when you ve got a lot on your plate Sometimes you need to take a breather and focus on your health This doesn t mean that you need to schedule an hour at the gym every day either If you re strapped for time a simple 15 20 minute walk or yoga session can make all the difference to your stress and energy levels JUST BREATH Take a complete timeout from wedding planning as often as you need to Every bride deserves a relaxing soak in the tub or a heavenly hot stone massage to relieve some of the tension she might be feeling It can be difficult to make time to simply relax but do your best to find the time even if it s just 30 minutes a week

Page 22

WEDDING TRADITIONS YESTERDAY TODAY TOMORROW The famous wedding recipe derives from the Old English rhyme which names the four good luck objects plus a sixpence a bride should include somewhere in her wedding outfit or carry with her on her wedding day According to Reader s Digest the rhyme came about in the Victorian era from Lancashire a county in England Most of the ingredients in the rhyme are meant to ward off the Evil Eye which according to Reader s Digest was a curse passed through a malicious glare that could make a bride infertile Something Old Was a sure way to ward off the Evil Eye and protect any future children the couple might have the Evil Eye was thought to cause infertility in the bride yikes But more generally and on a more lighthearted note something old represents continuity and contemporary couples use this as a chance to wear a sentimental piece of jewelry Have you ever wondered where todays traditions come from We thought it would be fun to highlight old wedding traditions Let s start with Something Old Something New Something Borrowed and Something Blue a Sixpence in your Shoe Something New Offers optimism for the future The couple is about to enter into a new chapter in life so walking into marriage with something new makes total sense

Page 23

Something Borrowed The old fashioned superstition urged the bride to borrow the undergarments of a female friend or relative with a happy marriage and healthy kids again with the fertility thing But of course today it s all about honoring a loved one or holding onto something of sentimental value like your grandmother s wedding hair comb your mother s diamond earrings or his grandmothers lace hankie for a touch of good luck as you say your I dos Something Blue While wearing or carrying something blue was also meant to deflect that pesky Evil Eye the color blue stands for love purity and fidelity three key qualities for a solid marriage The traditional something blue was often a blue garter worn beneath the bride s white dress But you don t have to wear something blue to ward off wicked spirits Sprinkle blue clematis into the bouquet pick out a gorgeous pair of blue pumps find a powder blue bow tie or use blue ribbon to tie your invitation suites together just because you feel like it

Page 24

Sixpence in Your Shoe The sixpence is the final ingredient in the old rhyme This British coin is meant to represent prosperity for the couple as they start their lives together Traditionally the father of the bride presents her with the sixpence or the penny just before she walks down the aisle as a gift of good luck Some brides make this token extra special by using a penny from the year they were born or the year they met their one and only While the Evil Eye is a thing of the past this little wedding rhyme can be an entertaining tradition to follow at your wedding in whatever way works for you Have fun with it as you put the finishing touches on your Special Day
