Hisinquisitive and inventive nature helped him get a great education and have an exciting andsuccessful life.Time Allocation: 15-20 minutesSuggested Grade Level: 3-5Objectives:● The student will participate in an interactive classroom activity● The student will gain knowledge of specific economic terms and conceptsMaterials:● Visual- Economic Concepts Vocabulary Challenge● Matching Vocabulary Activity Cards- run off on cardstock and cut in strips● A copy of Whoosh! Lonnie Johnson’s Super-Soaking Stream of Inventions by Chris BartonProcedure:1. Prepare the materials prior to class. The Matching Concepts Activity Cards work best ifthe words and definitions are run off on different colored paper.2. Introduce the lesson by telling the students that they will be participating in an activitythat involves economic concepts. Define economics as “the study of choice underscarcity”.3. Show the students the cover of Whoosh! Lonnie Johnson’s Super-Soaking Stream ofInventions.4. If time allows, read the book to the class. YouTube link:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMNuoLQfKOs5. Display the visual and read the contents to the students.6. Distribute the Matching concepts Activity Cards giving half the students the words andthe other half the definitions. Inform the students that each hint is unique to a matchingpair.7. Instruct the students get out of their seats and find the match to their card. If conceptsand definitions have been run off in different colors, tell students to start by findingsomeone with a different colored card. Once found, they are to indicate successcompleting by some action, such as holding the cards over their heads or sitting on thefloor.8.
