We have stayed true to our mission to improve the health of women, infants, and children in underserved communities around the world. Talking about making a dierence, here’s a small window into what we accomplished in 2024:• Every two minutes, we helped a pregnant woman avert anemia and helped support a healthy pregnancy.• Every 15 minutes, we helped a baby get a healthier start in life, equipping them with the nutrients they needed to grow and thrive. • Every 15 minutes, we saved the life of a child, ensuring brighter futures for families around the world. These numbers are powerful. They tell a real story of how evidence-based nutrition solutions and collaboration can drive sustainable change and improve the health of the world’s most vulnerable communities. We could not have achieved our success alone. Our accomplishments are a testament to a collaborative eort with our partners, supporters, and the families we serve in communities around the world. Our joint commitment is clear: to get the job done. By working with local stakeholders, governments, academic institutions, and other trusted public health organizations, we continue to make great strides towards making our world a healthier place for women, infants, children, and families everywhere.Over the last 30 years, I have been proud to work with each and every member of our extraordinary team and all of our partners, donors, and supporters to advocate for maternal and child health, and I am profoundly grateful for your contributions and dedication. As we look ahead, I am excited to build on our momentum and I’m thrilled to welcome our new CEO, Ana Céspedes, who will lead us into a new era of dynamic growth and impact starting in 2025. 14WHY WE EXIST15VITAMIN ANGELS GLOBAL IMPACT REPORT 2024VITAMIN ANGELS GLOBAL IMPACT REPORT 2024WHY WE EXISTVitamin Angels envisions a world where everyone, everywhere, has a chance to fulfill their potential. Today, billions of people around the world cannot aord a healthy diet, which often leads to malnutrition. Our goal is to reduce this inequity by ensuring that the most nutritionally vulnerable populations—underserved women, infants, and children—have access to proven nutrition solutions.TARGETING A CRITICAL LIFE STAGEEvidence-based nutrition interventions are a powerful way to support healthy pregnancies, improve birth outcomes, reduce infant and maternal mortality, and protect children under five against debilitating childhood infections. They have the power to break the intergenerational cycle of poverty and poor health, and enable children to thrive as they grow and learn, helping entire communities grow stronger for generations to come. Two doses of vitamin A every year during early childhood supports healthy immune systems, promotes growth, prevents blindness, and improves child development overall. Adding deworming treatment helps improve nutrient absorption and improves child health and nutrition. VITAMIN A SUPPLEMENTATION AND DEWORMINGImproving Children’s Health in the Dominican RepublicVitamin Angels provides nutrition interventions to our program partner, CitiHope, which collaborates with a local ministry, Pastoral Materno Infantil, to reach underserved communities with vitamin A supplementation and deworming treatment in the Dominican Republic. When Arianna heard that a community health organization was coming to her area to oer complimentary nutrition services, she brought her two-year-old daughter Isabel. Isabel, a confident and curious toddler, has earned the nickname “the mayor,” as she often strolls through her community, making unscheduled visits to her neighbors’ homes.Arianna and Isabel, wearing matching polka dots, waited in line to receive Isabel’s dose of vitamin A and deworming treatment. 20MMS21VITAMIN ANGELS GLOBAL IMPACT REPORT 2024VITAMIN ANGELS GLOBAL IMPACT REPORT 2024MULTIPLE MICRONUTRIENT SUPPLEMENTATIONWomen have increased micronutrient requirements during pregnancy due to rapid growth and development. Sometimes, particularly in low-resource settings, diet alone is not enough to meet these demands. Nutrient deficiencies during pregnancy can lead to adverse pregnancy and birth outcomes. To address malnutrition in pregnancy, Vitamin Angels provides access to multiple micronutrient supplements (UNIMMAP MMS, a specific formulation of the supplement commonly known as prenatal vitamins and minerals), which are proven eective in addressing micronutrient deficiencies in pregnancy and have a significant and positive impact on maternal health. We also oer our technical partners Social and Behavioral Change (SBC) interventions to improve MMS uptake and adherence, as well as maternal diet quality.Supporting Healthier Pregnancies in Sierra LeoneVitamin Angels provides MMS to mothers in Sierra Leone, like 36-year-old Marion, through our partner, Healey International. Together, we aim to eliminate preventable maternal mortality by addressing the root causes right from the beginning of pregnancy.Marion took MMS during her pregnancy with her son, which is a crucial step for mothers in a country with some of the highest maternal and child mortality rates in the world. Marion shared that taking the vitamins made her feel good—she even felt better after starting them. “I ate plenty of food, slept a lot, and became quite large while carrying my baby. INFANT AND YOUNG CHILD FEEDING22IYCF23VITAMIN ANGELS GLOBAL IMPACT REPORT 2024VITAMIN ANGELS GLOBAL IMPACT REPORT 2024Following birth, Vitamin Angels supports local partners in designing and implementing individual, community, and facility-level infant and young child feeding (IYCF) support strategies and policies to increase early initiation of breastfeeding, exclusive breastfeeding, and appropriate complementary foods from 6-23 months of age. Breastfeeding promotes the health, wellbeing, and survival of women and children. It is the ideal food for infants, providing the nutrients infants need as well as antibodies that protect against common childhood illnesses. Beginning at six months, an infant needs more nutrients than what can be provided by breastmilk alone. We support the introduction of nutrient-rich and age-appropriate complementary foods, along with continued breastfeeding, up to age two to promote healthy development and growth.71%of children under two years old are not meeting the minimum standard for dietary diversity.Improving Complementary Feeding Practicesin MexicoIn Oaxaca, Mexico, many families live in rural, hard-to-reach areas. Compared to other parts of Mexico, these communities have greater food insecurity and chronic malnutrition rates, and lack access to quality health services. Along with our research partners, Vitamin Angels studied the diets of children aged 6-23 months – a time when diet quality is critical for growth. We found that very few protein-rich, animal-based foods were provided, especially to children aged 6-11 months.Training and tools - for both caregivers and health workers - are needed to improve diet diversity among young children. Together with government health authorities, research institutions, and NGO partners, we are now designing a multi-pronged strategy to address these needs and improve complementary feeding practices in Oaxaca.Fewer than half of infants under six months old are exclusively breastfed.

26In 2024, the Ministry of Health in Indonesia marked the transition of its national maternal healthcare program from providing pregnant women with iron and folic acid (IFA) supplements, containing just two nutrients, to MMS, which includes 15 essential vitamins and minerals and has proven improved impacts on pregnancy and birth outcomes compared to IFA. Starting in October, this national transition launched in 15 provinces, with nationwide distribution across all 38 provinces planned by 2026. Indonesia’s UNIMMAP MMS program is a testament to the expansion of research and pilot projects to fuel large-scale implementation, guided by an implementation science approach to support eective scaling and sustainability. Vitamin Angels has supported the transition and national rollout of this proven and cost-eective intervention.CASE STUDY: INDONESIA 2024TRANSFORMING MATERNAL NUTRITION WITH MMSLocalizing Implementation Strategies: For more than five years, Vitamin Angels collaborated with researchers at local and international organizations to understand the most eective MMS implementation strategies (both delivery and supply) across Indonesia’s diverse contexts. Together, we identified barriers and enablers to adherence and used those to develop and test local packaging and behavior change strategies that are now being scaled within the national program to support overall system strengthening and healthcare provider training and practices. Securing Supplies: Together with Kirk Humanitarian, Vitamin Angels shipped 1.3 million bottles of UNIMMAP MMS in 2024 to support initial scaling of MMS in Indonesia. In addition, we brought together key government and private sector stakeholders to identify and test a strategy to secure MMS product supplies, adopt a product specification, catalyze local MMS manufacturing and job creation, and position manufacturers within a regional network of high-quality, low-cost producers supplying MMS to Indonesia and regional markets.Developing Policies: The Ministry of Health of Indonesia, Vitamin Angels, and other key stakeholders have worked together to develop national policy and to create and deliver technical guidelines and delivery and product supply strategies for the introduction and nationwide scale-up of MMS.Looking ahead, Vitamin Angels will continue to support the Ministry of Health in equipping healthcare providers with the training and tools they need to deliver care eectively to ensure a deeper, lasting impact on the health of pregnant women nationwide, including nutrition supplementation with MMS. We provide MMS, commonly known as prenatal vitamins, and technical support to our partners, who then distribute MMS to support healthy pregnancies. Additionally, we are expanding the breadth of our work by piloting materials to support MMS counseling and collaborating with key partners to conduct formative research on breastfeeding.“The Vitamin Angels partnership is very benecial to our community because we’re able to provide prenatal vitamins free of charge. When I initially distribute the vitamins to the moms, they’re very appreciative because a lot of them don’t have access to prenatal vitamins through their insurance. The most pressing issue for our patients is access to healthcare. And I think that we do a great job bridging that gap.”Shambrel Bates, Nurse Practitioner and Director of Clinical Services, St. Gabriel Health Clinic, LouisianaCASE STUDY: US PROGRAMS29VITAMIN ANGELS GLOBAL IMPACT REPORT 2024
