R Jet V4 Operator ManualDirect to film (DTF) is a system of printing using piezo ink jet printing technology to create direct to film transfers. This transfer system differs from print and cut as only ink is transferred rather than a vinyl media. The image to be printed is mirrored and is printed onto an ink receptive film, CMYK is printed first followed by white ink. This white ink becomes the the background media for the transfer and replaces vinyl that would be used in a print and cut system. The printed transfer passes under a shower of powdered adhesive as it passes into the glue gully section of the finisher. The powder glue is moisture receptive and attaches to the water based ink of the print.Excess powder is shaken off the none printed film by means of a powder shaker, the film carrying the print then passes through tunnel drier where the powder is melted and the ink is set. This is your transfer.Introduction3

R Jet V4 Operator Manual1. Check ink levels – White and CMYK must be above 50% full. 2. Turn printer on using the emergency stop button 3. Open both Print XP and Resolute RIP software’s4. Leave for 10 minutes to allow the white ink to circulate around the printer> If Semi auto circulation is fitted press the “white ink cycle” button once and wait for the circulation to complete then press for a second timeStarting Routine 17
R Jet V4 Operator Manual1. Turn on the finishing unit and turn on Guide plate heater 2. Perform 2 strong head cleans – (Print XP Software) “Clean” – “2 (4) Head All” – “Strong” 3. Perform a head status – (Print XP Software) “Check”4. If head status is good carry onto printing, if the head status is poor repeat the previous stepStarting Routine 18
R Jet V4 Operator Manual• Ensure powered feed off is set to 0 (off)• Lift the film pinch rollers using the roller lift button and remove any remaining roll end film from the bed of the machine • Release lock screw on right hand roll hub• Slide right-hand side hub to the right to release the film roll• Remove the cardboard tube with the remnant of the film • Replace with new roll matte side up, rolling up over the top of the roll, not from the underside.Loading a new roll of film19
R Jet V4 Operator Manual• Ensure the film roll is tight onto the left film roll hub whilst supporting the film roll• Move the right film roll hub to the left and into the card board film roll centre• Pull approximately 50cm of film off the roll and thread the film under the sensor activation bar Loading a new roll of film20
R Jet V4 Operator ManualLoading a new roll of film21• Place the film under the film pinch rollers and lower the film pinch rollers using the roller lift button • Move to the front of the printer and hold the film in the centre with your left hand, use your right hand to press the second film pinch roller button located on the top pf the machine • Pull the film until it is firm to pull and is running central in the machine, at this point the film sensor activation bar should be at the top of its runners. • Tuck each side of the film under the film edge guides and ensure the film is flat • Turn the power to the powered feed off to the (I) position • Using the down button on the printer, feed off about 50cm of film to make sure the film is running flat and true • Ensure film is straight on guide plate
R Jet V4 Operator Manual• Ensure that the finishing unit settings are set to Auto (picture)• Feed about 50cm of film out of the printer then start your print run• When front edge of the film reaches the bottom of the glue gully Press pause on the printer (picture)• Put film on conveyor belt, make sure the film is lined up as per the training and turn both suction fans on (picture)• Press pause again and print until approximately another 10cm has entered the glue finishing unit in the glue gully, press pause again and add 2 full scoops of powder onto the film (picture)• Press pause and continue to print.• When the printed film reaches the bottom of the glue gully it will activate the finishing unit sensor and start to feed film into the machine(check for film alignment all the time while this is happening and ensuring you press pause on the printer every time that you need to make an adjustment.Web up finishing machine 22
R Jet V4 Operator Manual• Check powder levels regularly, recycle from bottom where necessary• Make sure print and powder shaker is paused whilst you do this • Monitor straightness of film throughout • When film feeds out of finishing unit, turn on extractor – do not turn it on prior to this as it can suck the film up from the bed and cause a jam• Continually check that the film is running straight and true during production and adjust as per training Web up finishing machine 23
