Along with staffsupervision, the Director establishes the departmentalgoals and budgets, and maintains the overall Utilitiesprograms within regulatory compliance for the City. TheDirector works under the general direction of the Mayor. As with any transition of leadership, the major priority ofthe new Director is to establish trust-based relationshipsand create effective lines of communication with theUtilities Department staff, the Mayor, departmentdirectors and elected officials. The Director is also responsible for continual communication with federaland state authorities, and local industry leaders to keepcurrent on issues and respond to requests forinformation.
