Field Impact ReportGiovanni-Chemo for Osteosarcoma-Ayudame a Vivir ProgramEl Salvador
Project Update Project Goal
Giovanni started his chemo treatments on January 26, 2023. Giovanni states, " I am going to keep fighting!
In January, Giovanni underwent surgery to have his leg amputated due to osteosarcoma. He said, "At first I was scared, but they (the doctors) told me to be calm, that it was a process, but everything would be fine. The surgery started from 12 to 8 p.m. and everything went well because I did not have to go to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). I am very happy because here (Ayudame a Vivir Medical Center) they treat me well and the nurses always take good care of me. I am grateful to have the opportunity to receive good treatment here, because I did not have the same experience at the Rosales Hospital (a hospital for adults in the public system)."
Currently Giovanni is receiving chemo and is stable.

His mother was also happy and expressed, "I never imagined that my son would be diagnosed with cancer, the doctors told us it was a malignant tumor and an amputation would have to be done. It is a blessing to have this foundation that supports children and parents. In my case, I am a single mother, and I am grateful for the care they are giving my son, for the doctors, and for everyone who works here. They always provide such good service to the children. We hope the foundation will continue to help others. I want to thank you, Food for the Poor. I am so grateful for the support you give us."
