Wisconsin National Guard Foundation The Wisconsin National Guard Foundation WNGF Inc was created in 2021 as a 501 c 3 nonprofit organization to provide educational opportunities and emergency financial resources for Wisconsin Air and Army National Guard members and their families Additionally the Foundation works to raise public awareness of the valuable role the National Guard plays in assisting and protecting Wisconsin communities experiencing natural disasters and civil and humanitarian emergencies Under the Federal Internal Revenue Code donors may deduct 100 percent of their gifts to the Foundation The WNGF is incorporated under Wisconsin Statutes Our Beginnings The Wisconsin National Guard Foundation was initially conceived and encouraged in 2019 by the Wisconsin National Guard Association WINGA a 501 c 19 professional membership organization for military officers which is affiliated with the National Guard Association of the United States To prevent a National Guard member from being compelled to end their military service because of civilian financial emergencies and inability to attend training WINGA leadership recommended the creation of a tax exempt charitable foundation and provided seed money to begin its development In 2021 a small group of like minded officers met to develop and incorporate the Foundation it is today What Are the Needs National Guard members are required to meet civilian educational requirements for military advancement in addition to continuous skill improvement in their military occupations Educational assistance is available to Guard members and their children for traditional four year degree programs technical degrees or training certifications and fees related to obtaining a professional licensure Typical military scholarship programs are insufficient to cover the needs of Guard members and their dependents thus WNGF annual scholarships are awarded to deserving individuals based on availability of funds There are times when National Guard members through no fault of their own find themselves struggling against the unexpected medical costs in a household not covered by insurance unavoidable home or vehicle repairs or loss of a civilian job These financial hardships can unduly affect their credit security clearance or affiliation with their Guard membership Financial assistance grants are available up to 2 000 and do not require reimbursement Our Greatest Resource The Foundation believes our Soldiers and Airmen are our greatest resource When National Guard personnel are called up for Federal or State Active Duty they need to take time off from their civilian jobs at a potential loss of income and may receive less pay than their Active Duty Counterparts WINGF was created to provide various financial resources to assist in filling the gaps or unexpected needs and to aid in retention of our National Guard members Airmen from the Wisconsin Air National Guard take part in the State Enlisted Development Program SEDP This one week course enhances military skills and knowledge and builds leadership competencies
