Dear young Rajagirians, Teachers, Parents, One of the special dedications by the world body of UN for this year is that of 'Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development'. The global community has begun to speak seriously about sustainability and climate change - all channels have something or the other to say about it, even products and services are marketed based on how they promote sustainability - that shows that what was foretold by environmental scientists has begun to really affect human life and life in general on the planet. The cataclysmic events the world over and newer threats to human health are all pointers towards that. It is very significant that our learning is geared to grasping this reality and finding scientific solutions to the same. I hope our teaching-learning process, especially, of basic sciences, is geared in this direction, and influences our thinking and decision making styles as well. May the multifarious efforts happening in the school, including this e-magazine, help us to think and act together creatively. My heart goes out to the families, mothers, children and all people of Ukraine suffering from an unjustifiable war, and of Srilanka who suffer the brunt of a broken economy. Let our learning help us to grow in human fellowship and solidarity, and help us to be harbingers of peace everywhere! Congratulations to the team behind this effort! J. Prasant Palakkappillil Academic Director Message
E - Magazine – In an attempt to digitalize the creative upsurges of the budding writers and artists we formulated an E - Magazine, a platform befitting the digital natives of today! Through this novel venture, first of its kind in Rajagiri, the school aims at sending the message of sustainable solutions across the board. The noble endeavor, with its limited space has no doubt captured the unlimited potential of our creative minds. Requesting all the readers to be benign in their judgement, and be generous with their words of wisdom as they turn the digital pages. I owe the people behind this creation …A big salute to all the people who worked for this. Sanjeev Kumar Principal Message
“Imagination is the beginning of creation. You imagine what you desire, you will what you imagine, and at last, you create what you will. “George Bernard Shaw As we all know a magazine mirrors a school and its aims and objectives. I am happy to know that this magazine highlights the events, activities and academic prowess and achievements of our students. I do hope that this collection of creative works will encourages many more students in future to use School magazine as a platform to express their creativity. We need to recognize, appreciate, applaud and foster the fine blend of sensibilities in a child. I am sure this magazine could be considered as a launch pad for children’s creative urges to blossom naturally. I am delighted to share that this is an initiative to set the budding minds free , allowing them to roam free in the realm of imagination and experience to create a world of beauty in words. My sincere appreciation to the members of the editorial board, students and teachers who worked relentlessly behind this beautiful memorabilia that makes every member of RPS family to breathe our school life through its pages. S. Radhakrishnan Vice Principal Message
Every creation has evolved from a thought. Thinking is easy, acting is difficult and to put one’s thoughts into action is the most difficult thing. A person becomes what he thinks. Experience of wise men testifies to this aphorism. All that we are is the result of what we have thought. Learning without thought is labour lost. It is the thought that divides right from the wrong and that which elevates or degrades human desires and deeds. The pandemic disrupted normal schooling and our young ones were mostly confined to their homes. However, there was an upsurge of thoughts in their minds and our little budding geniuses gave expressions to their thoughts thus giving birth to stories, poems, paintings etc. This digital magazine provides ample scope for their creativity, felicity of expression and a free flight to fancy. Flexing their creative muscles, our young ones have given expressions to their aesthetic talents on this virtual platform. This magazine is our humble attempt to channelize their creative faculties and I am sure you will enjoy going through the pages. I owe a debt of gratitude to the School Management, Principal, Vice Principal, and Section Coordinators for their relentless support. My special thanks are due to members of the editorial board and the IT team. Ajith Kumar V.N Editorial Note

Now, you may have heard this term before. In a movie or book, perhaps? But, the concept of existent nanotech, is as real as it is science fiction. How about we begin with an inception of what Nanotechnology even is? Nanotechnology is a scientific field concerned with the conception of creating things, on an atomic and molecular level. The sub-word, ‘nano’, has originated from the Greek word, ‘nanos’, which means, ‘dwarf’. Now, the scale or size of the implications of general Nanotechnology is generally less than 100-nanometres, which is exceedingly small. So now, you have a basic understanding of what Nanotechnology is. But you may be wondering, what can this type of technology do? What advantages does it have? Well, in 1959, a physicist named Richard Feynman, in a Scientific Conference, put forward the idea of scientists entering a new world of physics, where he discussed the pros of making things on a very small scale. He envisioned the use of electron microscopes to see things like they never had before. The concept of using microscopic machines to precisely create other machines was also one of the ideas put forward. He also proposed the idea of what would today be called as Spintronics, in which the magnetic power of the spin of an electron is used to process information. Today, modern Nanotechnology is usually affiliated with 6 main sectors: Food, Environment, Electronics. Biomedicine, Textile and Energy. Nanotechnology- Godsend or a Global Killer?
Food: Integrations like microscopic sensors could be used to check the presence of pathogens in our food. Nanotech could also contribute in the creation of increased thermal resistance and decreased O2 transfer in canned or packaged foods to keep them safe. Environment: Concepts like filtration of wastewater with nano bubbles, air purification with ions, etc. are under investigation. Nano-catalysts would also help speed up chemical reactions more efficiently with less pollution. Electronics: Nanotubes made of carbon are a superior alternative to silicon in the conception of faster and more efficient microchips and other electronic devices. Biomedicine: The features of selective nanomaterials also make them useful in treatment of diseases that destroy neurological systems. There is also research being done on how they can selectively target cells of cancer without destroying healthy cells. Textile: Nanotech is also being used to create lighter and more durable clothes. It is even being used to create very strong fabrics for high-intensity sports and other activities. Energy: It is used to create semiconductors to double the energy output of solar panels. It also increases efficiency and reduces cost of other sustainable energy sources like, turbines, windmills etc. Now, all these features of Nanotechnology sound quite beneficial. But there is a dark side of it as well. Nanotech poses potential hazards to people as well as the environment. It can lead to negative implications like decrease in manufacturing and as a result, unemployment. It could also lead to crashes in global economy as valuable materials such as gold and diamond could be manipulated. Another severe negative impact is the fact that it can be easily weaponized. It could be used to create deadly arms and bring upon global destruction. So, finally, can we classify nanotechnology as being good, or bad? Well, in my opinion, if used suitably and ethically, nanotechnology could be a boon to planet Earth, and it would lead to a new era, one in which modern day problems, such as lack of fossil fuels, food safety, health issues, etc. would be rendered obsolete. With the developing breakthroughs in this field, we can be sure that this era is not far away. Kevin Davis, X A
Space Tourism Have you ever felt that you want to fly above the skies, escaping our blue planet for a short while? Well, you don’t have to wait any longer as your dream might turn into reality soon. The rising trend in space tourism has increased over the decades. But the talk about space in general began during the cold war when two of the world’s superpowers USA and the USSR started the famous space race. The first official ‘tourist’ in space was Dennis Tito. On 28th April 2001, he became the first guest on board of the International Space Station. He stayed there for seven days. Back then, he faced a lot of criticism from NASA and other scientists around the world. In recent years , NASA thought that the space tourism is the next big thing. On 7th June 2019, NASA announced that in 2020, the organization Space X aims to start allowing private astronauts to go on the International Space Station, with the use of the SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft and the Boeing Starliner spacecraft for public astronauts.
This is planned to be priced at 35,000 USD per day for one astronaut and an estimated 50 million USD for the ride there and back. The main companies helping in the development of this are Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic. It has many disadvantages such as back ache, dizziness, etc. Zero gravity can take a heavy toll on a human body as it is not used to that environment. It can cause many financial problems also. Space travel is much harder than normal air travel. It requires more fuel and is very expensive. With proper development and the reduction in cost of space flights might make it available for majority of people. Right now, it is only affordable for the rich. But we can still have our fingers crossed! Shaqis Mohammed, X - A
I wonder what it feels like to be in undersea; Would I drown or would I glide? From my endless rumination I wonder what it feels like to be undersea; Could I hold my breath or would I want to let go? Even though I’m overflowed I wonder what it feels like to be undersea; Would I ache or would I heal? From my endless tribulation, I wonder what it feels like to be undersea; Would I be restless or would I find serenity? Just a simple taste would be worthwhile, For me to see tranquillity. 44 Something is near my window, Softened by a little glow. Shaped like a lion, Or like an Orion. Stand in groups, Smile in troops. Never leaves the sky, Appears faraway high. Magnificent bright pals, They are called the shining stars. Pals of the Sky- Stars Adithi Vinod, VIII B
Grey and dull, Like a stormy cloud. Sad and sombri, Like a funeral town. No one bats an eye. My presence unknown. And when they do, They bat me away. I always wish, I could be a dove. Or sometimes even, A dark black crow. Always impossible, My presence unknown. Never inevitable, For a grey dull pigeon. The Pigeon Haniya Gihas, VIII B
The time came, when it was dark in the surroundings, The silence of nature disturbed, only when the Church bell rings, The lullaby of the wind, where a lonely cradle swings, The sweet moan of a baby angel, flapping its tiny restless wings. The vast, starry sky, with the elegant moon shone in cloudy shadows, The cold, chilly weather, where dew drops, like pearls, rested on grassy pillows, Inside the woody forest some refugee light faintly glows, Despite some strange voices of nature silence follows. By the river side, the small cottage stood like an abandoned princess, Nurturing memories of the past, where life once flourished with joy, boundless, All those foot prints which once returned to rest in peace and warmth, Have now settled far across, never to fondle this tiny piece of earth. The garden that once bloomed with colorful flowers and bushy plants, With dried roots and broken swing, barren, still proudly stands, The wooden fence that once adorned the boundary lines to the lively yard, Lay ruined on the ground with no single piece on guard. No man should then forget the footsteps of his young past, Wherever he be, the childhood memories, sweet, may ever last, Once returning to the birth place will enlighten the soul and heart, For the earth born in never let us stay, forever, apart. The land of our predecessors, where we have the roots of our precious lives, Waits for our return at least once, where intimacy, boundlessly strives, Whatever man earned in the steady advance of life in all years, Are nothing compared to the heart touching re union in tears. And here the lonely cottage stands waiting to fill the familiar smell into the fading interiors, So in heavy rain and storm, it remains bold with no cause of fears, The old rusty bell may ring once again and the creaky doors melodiously open. Fresh air may gush inside and memories of sweet past enliven. The Lonely Memories Vidya Anil Kumar Mallar
As I was reading a book, I noticed the word ‘tea’ and remembered that I had left my tea on the stove. I ran to the kitchen as fast as I could and found the tea burning and switched off the stove with a sigh of relief “Oh thank god I almost set the house on fire!” As I said, I heard a noise from behind me. It was the sound of tiny footsteps, but I was alone at home. I slowly but nervously turned around, and screamed with horror, it was a huge, black yellow-eyed…..cat. My heart almost skipped a beat! Oh God! As I said, all the windows shattered, all at once! And the wind blew so hard. All of a sudden, our neighbor- Shalini Aunty screamed as usual, but this time for a valid reason. She shouted “Earthquake, hurricane, flood and what not, run for your life! run for your life! It's a dangerous world out there, Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!’’ I was terrified, confused and concerned, “What is she saying? When will Papa and Ummi be back home? Why is she asking me to wake up?’’ All these thoughts were running through my mind as I ran out with my phone in one hand and a bag packed with my favorite things on the other hand. I ran outside and saw everyone from our neighborhood rushing and running out. My eyes started tearing up, “Am I going to die? How could none of them come and let me know about the danger? How could they leave this innocent child alone? Was I not important’’ I thought and whimpered as I ran to try and survive. But, I knew I was too late, I could hear it, the huge wind swirling, getting closer and closer to me. I ran as fast as I could, I ran till I couldn’t. “This was it, this is all from me for now. I can’t run much longer’’ I cried. I prayed to God to keep my parents, brothers, friends and teachers safe. I prayed that they all remember me and they live a happy and healthy life. And I stood still, with my eyes closed, remembered the faces of all the people I love and care for. It was all black and dark. And then, I heard the sound of my alarm, it was my favorite song, slowly opened my eyes and I was in my room, in my bed, and from the kitchen I could hear my mom, “Wake up Wake up! Nidhwa get ready for school’’ as she was making tea. Dream Nidhwa Nivas, IX A
Every dawn awakens us, With its pleasant, sweet mist. Every new day presents us, With its cruel, unforgiving list. Of things to attend to, places to go, Our routine schedule, To which we would have gladly said ‘no’. Alas! This refusal is but a fantasy, Conceived in the very core of our being. But we must not succumb to the devil, That constantly reminds us of the good old days fleeing, The Oak tree is like a reminder to us, That come what may, cowardice is not an option. We must stand unshaken, stand strong, To that very devil, we must show no emotion. All that is said to be impossible must be done, Every aspect conquered, no stone left unturned, For failure is merely a thought of the weak minded, But let victory not blind you, for a passion must first be churned. For passion is the fuel that keeps our dreams going, Every thought, every action, inspires something new. Our will is certainly a force to be reckoned with, But of course, it all depends on what we do. And now, I believe, it’s time to take a pause Let’s stop for a moment and solemnly swear, That no matter what, we must not tarry, Let’s not be delusional in life, Let’s not be caught up in greed’s snare. Every person has a strength to unlock, Every person has a unique affinity, With the creation, with the world, with God himself. So let’s be legends till the borderline of eternity. 49 I always consider taking up leadership roles as a part of my education which has utmost significance. The opportunities that pave the way for me to become a servant of our Rajagiri community has always helped develop myself holistically. Furthermore, the responsibilities that were bestowed upon me for the academic year 2021-22, helped me gain a marvellous and exceptional experience. Even though many of our goals went unattained due to the pandemic, we could still accomplish a few. With the help of the leaders of our institution and appreciable dedication from our student leaders, we could go through some structural changes in the way of the functioning of the student council. This year we could see more student-teacher collaboration to effectively carry out student-led initiatives and a prime example of the same is the anti-bullying campaign. The anti-bullying campaign was tremendously successful and the student council members took sessions and interacted with more than 650 students within two weeks. It was the fruitful result of the collective efforts from the student council and the guidance from our school coordinators. It was a glamorous opportunity for all of us to inculcate valuable lessons on team-building, effective implementation of well architected plans and much more. We believe we could instil a sense of priority amongst students regarding prevention of bullying and empower students to act in the right way and to seek help when bullied. One of the keystones for the structural change within the student council is the student leaders’ initiative to join QatarDebate, the National Debating Organization for Qatar. It was a noteworthy realization of the immense potential the students of Rajagiri possess as we became the 1st runner up out of 72 teams and 40 schools from all across Qatar. Memoirs of an Indebted Leader
Towards the end of the academic year, I had the privilege of representing our school and most importantly the entire student community in a program conducted by the Ministry of Education, India. Undoubtedly, I am indebted towards my school for giving me this opportunity and it is the key motivation behind many goals we expect to achieve this academic year. Being assigned with tasks related to day-to-day regulation of discipline, voluntary services for programs and much more helped us interact with our students frequently and serve the school in many different ways. With the inevitable support from our students, we could gain more time and opportunities to serve our school. We have well defined achievable goals which is capable of transforming our school and would surely help our students to chisel themselves and exhibit their true potential in an exemplary manner. We, the members of the student council, shall always remind ourselves of our responsibilities and duties and will surely work towards the betterment of our school. Shariq Ahmed Vengasseri, XI A
"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other." - John F. Kennedy. 2021-2022 has been one of the most invigorating academic years for me as a student. Being the head girl and taking up leadership has improved me as a person in terms of boosting my confidence, communication skills, notably in changing my perspective of our school and its system. Initially, taking upon such a prominent position in the school was challenging because I had never taken up such significant responsibilities, nor did I want to see myself put down the expectations of those who would entrust me with this responsibility. But on deciding to stand for the elections, I asked myself why I should take up this responsibility and how I would be different from all the other students who had become leaders. This question was indeed something that brought in a novel perspective. Soon after the elections, the entire student council was fixated on bringing our enthralled perspectives to each student and member of our school. We wanted to bring in so many new events and ideas that it was a tremendous learning experience to consider what was practical and necessary and put aside thoughts that seemed less contributing to our school community. Within a brief period after our elections, as the student council members, we all decided to brainstorm creative events on how we could contribute to putting our school on a much higher pedestal than the other schools in Qatar in giving the best education with the right mix of co-curricular exposure. As the Head Girl, I was given the opportunity to have worked on one of our major projects as the student council, which was to become a member in the eminent Qatar Debate, participate and form a club for the same in our school. Among many ideas, this particular idea stood out because of the promising reach it would have to many students as we have a significant number of speakers and debaters in our school who could easily be molded into the most outstanding speakers in Qatar. The idea bloomed quickly, but it required meticulous planning and organization. This was one of the most exciting part of this process. I learned and was able to take important decisions and foresee various problems and solutions to implementing this. Novice to a Leader
The student council not only focused on the temporary existence of our programs, but also gave prime importance to ensuring a perpetual existence of our clubs and a free and fair selection process with maximum involvement of the majority of students. Other student council members also came up with exciting ideas. The support that we received from the school was immense. The student council became more independent and accepted more responsibilities such as taking up maintaining discipline during the dispersal and creating awareness campaigns regarding Anti-Bullying. Since we are a budding school, many processes concerning the initiations of the student council had not yet been instigated. It was an auspicious opportunity to be part of the inception of the student council's independent initiations and utilize our school's best resources and growing space. The best part about being part of the student council in our school was that we were given so much exposure in creating and coming up with ideas that we, as students, deemed necessary. We received all the support and resources to make the best out of our academic year through every step. Apart from the student council, the other students also contributed their support and active participation in various activities that the council put forward. As this year comes to an end, I would like to convey how exemplary and enjoyable it was to be the Head Girl for this academic year. I sincerely look forward to even more active participation of our student community to make our school the best school that any student could look forward to. Ruth Sunil Thomas, XI A

Education has become one of the most important aspects of human life in the 21st century. According to me Qatar has done a remarkable job in this field. There are already so many colleges in Qatar that offer high quality education. Qatar University is the leading institution of academics and the only public university in Qatar. Qatar has a lot of private and public schools. The school life of a student surrounds not only with excellent academics but also with the co curricular activities. Qatar has given equal importance for academics and extra curricular activities in the filed of education. It enables the children to grow mentally and socially. EDUCATION IN QATAR Nafisa Ali, VII E

Ubuntu is an African philosophy that places emphasis on 'being self through others'. It is a form of humanism which can be expressed in the phrases 'I am because of who we all are‘. 114 One day an anthropologist visited a village in South Africa. He found some tribal children playing. He proposed a game to the children. He placed a basket of sweets near a tree.
He asked the children to stand 100 meters away from the bas-ket. He then announced that whoever reaches the basket first would get all the sweets in the basket.
When he blew the whistle he was surprised by what he saw. All the chil-dren joined their hands and ran together. They took the sweets and shared equally among them.
When the Anthropologist asked them why they did so, they answered 'Ubuntu'. – “How can one be happy when all oth-ers are sad”
