Message Summer through mid-October your newly plantedtree should be watered 2-3 times per week, remember, you need to take into consideration andadjust the amount based on the accumulation of rainyou receive and your soil type. Watering your treeshould create 20 feet of green grass or vegetationaround the tree.• Irrigated lawns should not require further watering. • Overhead sprinkler systems watering 30 minutes every other day are preferred after 5 or more days of no rain for trees with no irrigation. • Avoid placing irrigation hose at base of tree as this will cause oversaturation in the root system.Sandy Soil - absorbs quicker • may require more frequent watering • may require larger amounts of waterClay Soil - holds moister longer • may require less frequent watering • may require smaller amounts of water5 gal Bucket Method • Use a clean, 5 gal bucket• Drill 3 holes (about the size of a pencil, in the bottom of the bucket.)• Put the bucket next to the tree on the dripline (directly under the canopy’s furthest reach)• Fill the bucket with water and wait for it to drain slowly into the soil• Repeat 2-3 times per weekAll trees we plant come with a 1-Year warranty,as long as the property owner, complies with all watering& aftercare instructions provided by ArborVantage TreeCare or Legacy-Trees.The warranty covers death due to natural causes, whichmeans the tree declines and dies due to lack of vigor.Warranty does not cover the following damage: physical, chemical, disease, insect or drought.Optional 5 -Year WarrantyLegacy-Trees, comes with the option for customers toextend their warranty. At the time of installation, acustomer will need to enroll/purchase in the Level I:Juvenile Pruning Stewardship Program. Whencommitting to the Stewardship Program your warrantyextends from a 1-year Warranty to a 5-year Warranty. This program ensures one of our trained arborists willreturn and structure prune your purchased tree(s) aminimum of three times in the first five years. Eachpruning service completed during this time frame, will bebilled to the client after each visit.. It is the only way tohelp your tree become structurally sound, and stableas possible. These simple and inexpensive prunings, when your tree is a juvenile, allow for your tree’s life tohave longevity, decrease future maintenance costs, reduce potential problem areas , reduce risk topeople and property, as well as, diminish expensivesituations down the road.Warranty & Stewardship ProgramLevel I - Juvenile Tree Pruning DescriptionAggressive removal of juvenile branches over the first5-10 years- the goal is to remove the juvenile branchesbefore they reach 1 inch in diameter to ensure closureof the pruning wound. These are the branches thetree would self-prune in the forest due to shading ofthe lower branches from competing trees. Diversity & StewardshipLEGACY-TREES

ROOT FLAREShould there beroot flare showing?MULCHDo I need to keep mulch around my tree?Yes, maintain Mulch Ring Or other turf limiting coverage around tree trunk, using bark chunks, shredded bark, or wood chips.Mulch Application Keep the mulch at least 6 inches away from the barkof the tree. This helps: • keep the lower trunk dry • reduces the likelihood of bark decay and rot • prevents growth of girdling roots* Mulch the backfill area and beyond, if possible to a3-4 inch depth.Helpful information about MulchMulch is important to the long-term health of trees• It helps protect them from string trimmer and lawnmower damage.• It helps retain soil moisture and reduces evaporationfrom the soil surface by 25-50%.• Mulch helps moderate soil temperature extremes andcontrols erosion.• Fine root hairs of trees develop 400% more undermulch than under grass. This is important because roothairs absorb most of the water and nutrients for the tree.• Mulch suppresses weed growth and gives landscapesa finished, polished look. However there are some disadvantages• Used in moist areas, organic mulch can createconditions ideal for trunk or root rot, especially whenplaced too close to the trunk. Rot in this part of the treeleads to instability and makes a tree more susceptible towind throw.• Organic mulches may be attractive to voles that use itas shelter and then chew on tree bark for food.Yes! Not only is it needed to retain your warrantyit is highly beneficial to your tree.TRUNK PROTECTORDo I need to keep the trunk protector onmy tree?*Girdling roots, and excessively mulched trees, sometimescalled “mulch volcanoes”, reduce the amount of availableoxygen to tree roots, causing oxygen starvation and treedecline or death. Not necessarily. Treestaking can be helpfulbut if it can go without, its better not to havestraps around the trunk ofyour tree. So it depends on yourtree and its locationwhether or not it will bestaked when planting. If you every notice yourtree being unstable orleaning, please call usand let us know.TREE STAKINGShould my tree bestaked?Limit self pruning to dead leads and brokenbranches and allow for a trained arborist tomanage your tree’s structure pruning.PRUNINGWhen should prune my tree?Avoid or limit use of broadleafweed killer near your trees.WEED KILLERCan I use weed killeraround my tree?
