new rules at airport.... Let’s take a look at why the 100ml liquidrestriction is returning to airports? This comes as some airports in the UK install new3D scanners - Six regional airports in the UK willtemporarily introduce restrictions on carryingliquids over 100ml, the Department for Transporthas said. The restrictions, first introduced almost twodecades ago, are being brought back to makeimprovements to checkpoint systems DfT added. So why are they returning? And how will thisaffect us when travelling? Here are the mainpoints:What is the 100ml restriction? The DFT first introduced the limitations on liquidsin 2006, following a terror plot which looked todetonate peroxide-based liquid explosives held indrinks bottles disguised as soft drinks. In 2019, Boris Johnson said the rules would thenbe eased at major airports by 2022, allowinglarger quantities and eliminating the need tohave liquids separately scanned.Rishi Sunak’s government then extended thedeadline to 1 June 2024 although some airportshave not implemented the new restrictions.Which airports are impacted?Aberdeen, Newcastle, Leeds/Bradford, LondonCity, Southend and Teesside are the six airportsthat will be affected. These airports have Next Generation SecurityCheckpoints (NGSC) in full operation whichallowed them to scrap the 100ml liquid rules afterintroducing the high-tech CT scanners.3D image scannersThe scanners allow for liquids of up to two litres tostay inside cabin bags as the scanners create a 3Dimage of what is inside passengers’ bags. However, now the 100ml rule will be reinforced, regardless of the new scanners. Some airports including Inverness and Stornowaystill have currently operational versions of the newscanners, and passengers will still be able to getthrough security with over 100ml of liquids in theirhand luggage. When are the changes happening? The change came into effect from midnight onthe 8th June. Please ensure that you check yourlocal airport for the most up-to-date informationbefore travelling.

Traveling with kids is a lot of fun and can helpcreate some of their best memories. That said, you also have to take certain steps to stick to yourbudget and stay safe while exploring the world.5 tips for travelling as a solo parent Tips for Traveling as a Solo Parent:Safety Always Comes First: This may soundobvious, but the reason this is so high on thelist is that most parents don’t consider newtypes of danger, such as hackers and othercriminals on the internet. Share your locationvia GPS with a trusted family member or friendwhile traveling as a single parent, try not topast at live locationsPre-book your hotels and tours: Don’t make arushed itinerary for your trip. Take time at eachspot to travel slow and easy. It will help youmanage everything better as a single adult, plus bond much more with your child. Speak toyour travel agent and have those plans for youraccommodation readily in place

Ask for Help: There will be several occasions onyour trip, where you may need to ask for help fromstrangers. It could be as simple as taking a photo, or managing a screaming baby on a long-haulflight. Just relax and don’t be shy to ask for help.Remember you’re not the only single parent in theworld, there are lots of others just like you. Whenmy son was younger and I did trips across Braziljust with him, I asked strangers to help with thebaby stroller up and down the stairs.Pre-book your hotels and tours: Don’t make arushed itinerary for your trip. Take time at eachspot to travel slow and easy. It will help youmanage everything better as a single adult, plusbond much more with your child. Speak to yourtravel agent and have those plans for youraccommodation readily in place Travel light with a baby / young kid: This seemslike an obvious one. Although I must admit that it ishard to keep the checklist to a bare minimumwhen traveling with a baby. But many a times, youwill find that hotels and restaurants do havestrollers or high chairs or cots for guests’ babiesand toddlers. Or that you can rent a car seat whenyou rent a car in another country. Strike a Balance between Planned andSpontaneous Activities: It’s a good idea to preventyour child from getting bored by planning severalactivities in advance . Whilst in most places, thereare tons of fun things to do locally as well. Byspeaking to your agent and pre booking your toursand activities in advance you are likely not just tosave money but also guarantee availability But the most important of all:One crucial document that single parents shouldbe aware of is the travel consent letter.
