Traill International School was founded in 1966 by Mr and Mrs Anthony Traill. In the beginning the school was originally called The Preparatory School. It was the first British Secondary School in Thailand, with an initial student roll of only 82. With a background as a track & field athletics coach for Great Britain in two Olympic and Commonwealth Games, Mr Traill was ideally qualified to understand what it took to achieve excellence. Mr and Mrs Traill wholeheartedly believed that in order to produce successful students, you had to educate the “whole child”. They put in place strategies to ensure the all-round development of students, which included athletic, academic and moral attributes. Their philosophy was that a smaller school would give students a real opportunity to take part in all areas of the school curriculum including extra-curricular activities. Having the freedom to try everything would give the students more personal confidence and encourage them to strive to reach their full potential in all aspects of their lives. They also felt that it was equally important to ensure that students studied in a comfortable and safe environment and they worked tirelessly to create a warm, homely atmosphere. Academic and sporting excellence quickly followed, and the school pioneered the introduction of British O Levels and A Levels in Thailand. Following upon that success, the school became the first computer examination centre for London University. In line with the school’s tradition of introducing excellence into Thailand, the school was also the first school to offer IGCSE qualifications.Having been the driving force behind over 50 years of academic excellence, the Traill family is still actively involved in the school as Governors and Directors. Over the years, the school has grown and flourished with new well-thought-out building designs and state of the art facilities. Whilst the school stays true to the founding ideals of Mr and Mrs Traill, it is constantly reviewing and improving the curriculum and facilities in accordance with 21st century standards and values. Despite the passing of over five decades, the school retains its caring, happy and secure environment, making it ideal for the development of students from any era.7Mr. and Mrs. Anthony TraillCo-founders of Traill International School heading off to the Tokyo Olympics 1964Traill's History

We pride ourselves on our unique combination of educational excellence, achieved within a secure and caring, family atmosphere. The Learning EnvironmentAt Traill, all of our lessons, with the exception of language studies are taught in English. We purposely keep our pupil/teacher ratio low to allow our highly-qualified and dedicated staff the time to ensure that each student receives individual attention and support. We believe that this is important if our students are to achieve their educational potential in all areas of the curriculum. To supplement our already well appointed classrooms, Traill Primary students also benefit from access to a wide range of facilities that greatly enhance their learning and development including:• ICT labs with the latestequipment• well-stocked and regularlyupdated library with ICTresearch facilities• access to a wide range ofmusical instruments in ourmusic room• multi purpose sports hall• bespoke art room• ergonomically designedoutside areas• 25 metre swimming pool foruse in our P.E. lessons aswell as swim team coaching. The CurriculumBritish education has a worldwide reputation for excellence, breadth and transferability. It approaches learning in its widest sense; academic achievement is important and well-structured. In addition the arts, music, physical development and personal, social and moral education are also given strong emphasis.KindergartenWe work hard to ensure our students’ first experience at school is a very happy one! 9where students feel secure and confident and where their skills and talents are developed to the full, even at this early stage. Our Kinder-We understand how important it is start their education off on the right foot. At Traill, we provide a calm environment garten curriculum follows the British Early Years Foundation Stage guidance, adapted for an international setting. Our classroom facilities and resources are frequently reviewed to ensure that they comply with the most up to date teaching techniques. Our state of the art outdoor play area offers children the opportunity to learn through play in a safe and stimulating space.Primary School CurriculumThe curriculum in Key Stages 1 and 2 builds on the practical learning of the Foundation Stage (K1 & K2 classes). At our school many students enter Key Stage 1 without previous formal educational experience. Our teachers are highly experienced in working with students from many national systems with a variety of educational backgrounds. The support they provide in class enables students to make a smooth transition to successful learning at the appropriate level. We follow the English National Curriculum which is a broad and rigorous programme of study adapted for an international setting. It is divided into the three ‘core’ subjects of mathematics (numeracy), English (literacy) and science. In other areas, we adopt a cross-curricular system that connects learning across the subject areas of history geography, art and design technology incorporating elements of music, physical education and ICT. Dynamic, interactive lessons based on these principles, along with clear positive feedback, result in students who are highly motivated to learn and who are excited by their own success and future potential. Our students love learning as much as our teachers love teaching!

English as a Second LanguageEnglish as a Second Language (ESL) At Traill we are extremely proud to be recognised as one of the best providers of ESL teaching in Thailand. Our former ESL students consistently achieve outstanding results in both IGCSE and A Level examinations as well as regularly receiving Top In the World, Top in Thailand and High Achievement Awards, presented by Cambridge International Examinations. This has afforded them the opportunity to choose from some of the best universities in the world to continue their studies. We accept students with a wide range of abilities in English language. Once a student joins us, we prepare a personalised learning plan depending on their proficiency. They will enter one of our programmes, ranging between total immersion ESL programmes, taught by specialist ESL teachers, to full integration into mainstream classes. Students who are enrolled in the total immersion programme develop very quickly and are soon integrated partially, and then fully, into mainstream classes. Even after full integration, careful monitoring is maintained to ensure that each student continues to develop and has a full understanding of the subjects being taught. Most second-language students will sit the second-language English IGCSE examination at the end of Year 11. This is accepted by many universities worldwide as a suitable English qualification for university admission. In addition we are able to prepare students to sit IELTS and other English language tests, as required by their university of choice.10

Secondary SchoolOVERALL ETHOSAll of our lessons in the secondary school are taught by specialist teachers, with the Class Tutor having the extremely important pastoral role of co-ordinating all aspects of the student's academic as well as social development.CURRICULUMKey Stage 3From 11 to 14 years of age (National Curriculum Years 7 to 9) specialist teachers deliver a balanced programme broadly based on the English National Curriculum. This includes the core subjects of English Language and Literature, Mathematics and Science. Additional subjects taken by all students at Key Stage 3 are Geography, History, Drama, Art, Music, Physical Education, Information and Communication Technology and Thai, French, Mandarin, Japanese and Personal, Social and Health Education.Key Stage 4The principle behind the Key Stage Four curriculum is to provide students with globally accepted qualifications in key subjects, whilst also allowing them the opportunity to specialise in the subjects which they are most interested in.The foundation of the English National Curriculum for ages 14 to 16 is based around the syllabus for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE). All our students take at least eight subjects, and sit externally set and marked examinations in all subjects at the end of Year 11. English and Mathematics are compulsory subjects. Thai Language is compulsory for all Thai nationals. All students have to study at least two science subjects. Subjects offered are listed in the Year 10/11 Curriculum Booklet, and vary from year to year depending on student interests.THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT The year groups are split into two, sometimes 3 classes at each level. Students are encouraged to think independently, draw conclusions and solve problems in a co-operative and interactive learning environmentTHE SIXTH FORM Traill International School follows the Cambridge International Board A levels for all subjects taken. These are rigorous and challenging exams that build upon IGCSE learning. The subjects chosen are designed to ensure that our students are competitive both internationally and locally for entrance to university. These are world renowned exams that will facilitate entry to a broad range of universities. The skills learnt at A level are both a preparation for university and for a range of vocations. The Sixth Form is a bridge between school and university and it is a time when we encourage students to become more responsible for their own learning and to develop good work practices and personal habits. This will ensure greater success when they begin the next part of their lives. Traill has been offering the A-level programme for over 50 years and in that time we have equipped generations of students with the skills they needed to take their place at the top universities around the world. 11The Secondary School caters for students aged from 11 to 18 years of age (Year 7 to Year 13).Lessons for Sixth Form students take place in the purpose built Sixth Form building which houses not only their classrooms, but a common room and a library area.In Year 12, students will study up to four AS level subjects from a wide range of options. Experience has taught us that by limiting the number of subjects taken, our students can concentrate on subjects which they feel will benefit them the most in their future chosen field of study. They will study these in more depth, which will give them a head-start when they get to university. This is different to other common school practices in which students are obliged to study a wider range of subjects, with less focus. In addition to these option subjects, students will have lessons in physical education, careers / university applications and thinking skills. We purposely keep our class sizes small to allow a greater level of personalised teaching and to enable our students have all the support their need in these critical years. During their time in Sixth Form our students are taught and guided by a very supportive team led by the Head of Sixth Form. This team uses their vast knowledge of university entrance criteria to offer help and support throughout the complicated process of university application. Nearly all of our students go on to attend top class universities around the world, including universities in the UK, Australia, Canada, USA, Japan, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Switzerland, China, Germany, The Netherlands and Thailand.

In fact, not only do our students rise to the challenge, but they thrive on it and have been successful in many national and overseas competitions and tournaments. The impressive number of competitions and championships won by our students over the years is really quite staggering and clearly demonstrates what we have known for over 50 years, that students can reach their full potential if they are encouraged 13At Traill International School sports is an integral part of the programme, and a major area for co-curricular activity. and supported, through a dynamic sports programme, provided by talented specialist coaches.Locally, we compete in the Bangkok International Schools Athletic Conference (BISAC) in Basketball, Football, Volleyball, Athletics, Softball, Tee-Ball, Swimming and Cross Country from U11 through to Varsity level. We believe that by doing this, we are able to ensure that any concerns our parents have, are dealt with quickly.
