Still Life Workshop with Tam Cao

Tam has recently returned from an artist in residence at  the Florence Academy of Art.  Here are some of the pieces he worked on, and some of his words on the experience.

"Art is long and life is short, so the time taken away with family for the last six weeks is actually only a fraction of what’s needed to soak in the teaching and the amazing artwork over the centuries from the Byzantine to the Renaissance and beyond. The museum visits, the art history lectures, the anatomy lectures etc. There was so much of it, I had a sort of artistic indigestion.

There was a fire in my belly,  one in which I hadn’t felt in a long time.  Thank you to all the teachers that inspired me to go for broke (or go for Baroque 😂). The amazing Quattro of tutors; Hannah Sutton, Marco Franco, Saara Knapp and Laura Wenmaekers.

I’m so grateful to my wife and son who came along with me and dealt with my obsession to the art. Without them I could never have made it this far and to this place.

Thank you to all the artist & students I met in the course.  One of the loveliest group of people I’ve had the pleasure of drawing & painting with. You’ll all be remembered every time I pick up a pencil or brush.

I’ll be home soon, and it’s kind of sad to leave.  Though I’m leaving soon, I know now I get to share the knowledge I have gained from the course back in Sydney.  Back with new lessons for the future generation of artists! Heck yeah!"

Friends of

Tinkat Alley Art Studio and Gallery

We are continuing our Friends of Tinkat Alley Art Studio. This is a group that we have created for those who wish to support our studio and what we endeavor to achieve promoting the arts in the Lake Macquarie area.

Membership to Friends of Tinkat Alley Art Studio is $10 per year.

Your membership gives you preliminary invitations to all events, workshops, demonstrations and artists talks at the studio.

Your membership also entitles you to a 10% discount on any artwork you purchase at the gallery during 2025 (this discount comes off the total price and will be paid for from the galleries commission, we have a strong ethos of looking after the artists whose work is represented in the gallery).

Local Lake Macquarie artists also have the opportunity to have their work considered for exhibition in the gallery.
