LS29 8PNWHAT’S ON?Session One: Yorkshire Tunes – Music and words from Young Yorkshire, 3pm - 6pm(ish) A programme to celebrate Yorkshire’s rich and varied musical heritage.Jozef Mizer is a dynamic and versatile Romani musician whose artistry bridges the rich traditions of classical Romani music with the bold energy of contemporary Roma sounds. A master of multiple instruments and styles, Jozef’s performances celebrate the depth and diversity of Romani culture, from haunting ballads and fiery fiddle tunes to genre-blending modern compositions.Rooted in heritage yet unafraid to innovate, Jozef honors the soul of traditional Romani music while pushing its boundaries—fusing elements of jazz, pop, flamenco, and electronic influences. Whether performing solo or collaborating with global artists, he brings an unmistakable passion and authenticity that captivates audiences worldwide.Jozef Mizer is not just a musician—he is a cultural ambassador, storyteller, and torchbearer for Romani music’s past, present, and future.

Terne Čaja are a dynamic Roma girls’ dance group from Bradford, showcasing the rich traditions and vibrant energy of Romani dance. They bring cultural pride and joyful expression to every performance, regularly appearing at festivals and community events across the region. Guided by local mentors, Terne Čaja celebrate Roma heritage through rhythm and movement, helping to keep traditional dance alive while inspiring a new generation.In contrast will be a Piano Recital Piano by Shubhan Iyer a gied young Indian pianist who lives in Huddersfield. Shubhan will include works by the wonderful American female composer Amy Beach (1867=1944) and by the little known young Yorkshire composer William Baines (1899-1922,) inspired by the coast at Flamborough and also…” . but pieces by some of the great late Romantic composers in whom Shubhan specialises

Young Bradford Rapper, Logan, aged 10 will be performing his own work. Logan lives for his music and also helps his friends write lyrics too. Logan uses his local youth club as a space to create and practise his music. Anjaana - Anjaana were formed in the 1970s and h had what was probably the first Punjabi Folk/ Bhangra hit in the North of England. The original album 'Nachna Pia' was recorded in Little Germany Bradford. Anjaana have performed across the UK and India and can be booked on 07967144474. During the break, sample some Langar from the Sikh Health and Welfare Society.Try some old school bakes from Vintage Bakehouse and check out the Arts and Cras and information stalls in the side room. Session Two: Songs of the Ridings 7pm-10pmWhat do you mean – Yorkshire? Popular Yorkshire singer-songwriter, poet, campaigner for all things Yorkshire Eddie Lawler opens our Songs of the Ridings session with a programme of highly entertaining music, poems and songs – all with a strong Yorkshire focus. Eddie will be followed by guest contributions from several well-known singers and ensembles from the West Yorkshire area including Irene Lohouse and her 'Ey up, look aht, Rebbeca's abaht'. Poet and illustrator Cathy Benson, wife of the late Bradford Poet Laureate Gerald Benson will be reading some of her own and Gerald's Children's poems.A Garland of Yorkshire Poets. A taste and performance of the work of several successful established and published local poets who have been inspired in their work about one or more aspects of Yorkshire landscape, history or life. These will include Aqeel Parvez (Bradford) , Keith Fenton (Leeds) Bruce Barnes (Bradford), Mike Farren (Shipley), Emma Storr,(Leeds), Faye Marshall (Leeds), Laura Strickland (Hellifield)Folk tales’ o Yorkshire –John Billingsley of The Folk Lore Centre, Todmorden will introduce and read Yorkshire folk tales, including tales of Boggarts, .Robbie Martin and Into The Buttercup - "Into the Buttercup is a Bradford - based trio who meet to have fun singing, playing fiddle and Bodhran. We occasionally perform in public.At Thriddings Fest Robbie will tell a tale about Rombald the giant and his wife Betsy, their relationship with the Brigantes and Goddesses Brigantia and Verbeia. This will be followed by a few songs with a Yorkshire connection"

Session Four: 7pm – 10pm(ish) A Reet good Yorksher Neet – coordinated by the Yorkshire Dialect SocietyAn All Soul’s Night’s Dream - Burley Theatre Group present the first production for almost 90 years of a one act Yorkshire Dialect play (with boggarts!) by Professor Frederick Moorman (1872-1919) linguistic and folklorist, one of the founding fathers of the Yorkshire Dialect Society.John Hartley of Halifax, a brief introduction by Rod Dimbleby Chairman of the Yorkshire Society about Yorkshire’s most prolific and popular dialect poet and storyteller, John Hartley of Halifax (1839-1915) with readings from his poems,Callin’ Young Tykes: James Wraith youngest member of Council of the Yorkshire Dialect Society will give a short talk “A bit abaat West Ridin dialect i’ West Ridin dialect”Songs o’ t’ Dales Singer-songwriters Nigel Broadbent (Bradford) and Jim Jarratt (Calderdale) will conclude our evening and ThriddingsFest with offer Yorkshire-inspired songs by themselves and others, including 1970s legend Bob Pegg. This will be followed by an open mike session for anyone to willing to sing, play or offer a poem about Yorkshire, and the session might well end with a rendering of Yorkshire’s (un)official national anthem, On Ilkla Moor Baht At.
