“WE KNOW THAT WE ARE CHILDREN OF GOD, AND THAT THE WHOLE WORLD IS UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE EVIL ONE.” (1 JOHN 5:19) “AND FROM JESUS CHRIST, WHO IS THE FAITHFUL WITNESS, THE FIRSTBORN FROM THE DEAD, AND THE RULER OF THE KINGS OF THE EARTH.” (REVELATION 1:5) HOW IS JESUS CHRIST THE ‘RULER OF THE KINGS OF THE EARTH’ IF THE WHOLE WORLD IS UNDER THE ‘CONTROL’ OF THE EVIL ONE? THE STORY OF THE MAN WHO GOT HIS MOTHER’S FIELD PLOUGHED FROM BEHIND BARS When I was 8 years old, my grandmother told me a story. She decided to tell me the story when she overheard me complaining bitterly about some big bullies in the neighborhood who loved to terrorize the little boys including me, anytime I was out playing in the fields. My grandmother, before she told me the story, said to me; “It does not matter that those big bullies have control, you can still rule over them even though you are little if only you apply wisdom.” I did not immediately understand what my grandmother meant by that statement until she finished telling me her story. My grandmother told me the story of a young man who lived in a very corrupt city. The people of the city practiced all kinds of foul traditions. The leaders of the city were the worst in the vileness perpetrated throughout the land. No one dared to challenge the wickedness of the leaders of the city because of fear of what might befall such a person who stood up to them. The leaders were ruthless individuals who showed no mercy to anyone who spoke up against their corrupt practices. This ‘culture of silence’ continued until this young man decided to stand up to the corrupt leaders of the city.

The young man knew what the leaders of the city would do to him for speaking against them, but he still spoke up. The young man was the only child of his mother. He lived with his mother with no other relatives, for they were the only ones left in the family. His father died many years ago. The young man and his mother had a small farm which the young man ploughed every year so his mother could plant the crops that would sustain both of them for the upcoming year. The season for ploughing the farm was drawing near when the young man started speaking up against the corruption of his city leaders. Not surprisingly, the leaders came down ruthlessly on the young man, arrested him and quickly threw him in jail. As the young man sat in jail, he began to worry about his poor mother. He knew the only thing which sustained his mother and him was the small farm they had. The young man also understood his mother depended on him to plough the farm prior to planting the crops. His mother was too old to plough the farm herself and there was no one else who could do it for her in his absence. How was the young man going to plough his old mother’s farm from behind bars? While behind bars, the young man wrote many letters to his mother. The young man soon found out every letter he wrote to his mother was secretly read by the corrupt people who jailed him before delivering the letters to his mother. Once the young man discovered this unauthorized practice by his jailers, he decided to write a letter to his mother in which he told his mother about the ‘gold’ he hid in their farm. The young man told his mother he forgot the ‘exact location’ where he hid the ‘gold’. In his letter, he advised his mother to ‘plough’ the entire farm and she was sure to ‘uncover the gold’ at some point as she dug through the farm. As was to be expected, the corrupt jailers intercepted the young man’s letter and this time they resolved not to deliver the letter to his mother. Instead, they decided to get the hidden gold for themselves. The corrupt jailers shredded the letter and instead went and ploughed the entire farm looking for the ‘hidden gold’. They ploughed and ploughed carefully throughout the farm but found no gold. After a fruitless search, they abandoned the mission and left.

The young man’s mother who was unaware of what had happened, looked out her window later that day only to see her farm had been beautifully ploughed and ready for planting. She could not believe her eyes. “ What a great surprise! Who was so nice to come and plough my farm for me in the absence of my son?” the old woman thought to herself. The young man wrote another letter to his mother shortly after this incident in which he told her; “Mother you know I am behind bars and unable to plough our farm by myself so I sent some of my friends to plough it for you. They should have completed ploughing by now, so please go ahead and plant your crops as you always do. Love. Your son.” When my grandmother concluded her story, I immediately understood what she meant by, “It does not matter that those big bullies have control, you can still rule over them even though you are little if only you apply wisdom.” Even though the corrupt jailers had control, the young man still ruled over them even from behind bars through the application of wisdom! In the same vein, this world is under the control of the evil one, but Jesus the Christ has overcome and rules the ‘kings of this world’ through His Wisdom. He will continue to do this until the day the ‘shattered power of the holy people is reverted back to them’. That hour has come. Rejoice!!!!!!!!!!!!
