Those serving Communion will cleanse their hands immediately before serving. On rst Sundays, communicants will rst receive a piece of bread from the pastor and eat it; then communicants will take an empty ceramic individual communion cup, which will be lled by a communion assistant with either wine or grape juice and drink it. Used cups will be collected in baskets on the way back to the pews. On third Sundays, Communicants will rst receive the bread, then dip it into the red wine or the white grape juice, and then eat it.• Worshipers who do not wish to come forward during the distribution of Holy Communion may take an individual communion kit before worship begins or may bring their own elements. • ALL people are ALWAYS welcome to receive Holy Communion.

6from the pastorBY PASTOR JEN ROMEAn Update from Pastor Lynn PetersonWe are so grateful for the ministry of Rev. Lynn Peterson, Pastor-in-Residence for Visitation, with the Pilgrim community. She will end her time with us on October 31, 2022. Her compassion, creativity, and intelligence have been such a gift. We will search for a 3.5 hours/week Visitation Minister to lead with us in congregational care. Here is her letter to you.Pastor JenDear Ones,One of my earliest memories with Pilgrim: rocking my baby Ryda to sleep to the music and Word Weavings of your newly created Celtic Contemplative Service. Sharing this journey with you for over two decades has been a blessing beyond words for me. You are my faith family on the other side of the river. We have worshipped together in moving and refreshing ways. We have learned, questioned and challenged in forums and workshops and retreats, and attended together to God’s callings. I have preached out of learnings at Community Emergency Service and we have shared many thoughtful conversations. And I have been with you as you have celebrated and released Pastor Carol, then welcomed and celebrated Pastor Jen. Bravo! My wee family has received your warm welcome and been blessed by your deep care, your wisdom and prayers as I faced the long challenges of my family life!In this most recent chapter of our life together, I have been blessed to serve as your Pastor-in-Residence for Visitation. On your behalf, I have journeyed with your dear homebound elders and others struggling with illness. It has been my honor to carry your deep care and appreciation to them. We have shared the gifts of God’s grace through conversation, care, Scripture and Communion. And they have shared their remarkable stories of life and love and faith, their love for Pilgrim and their long dedication to building Pilgrim into a faith home, a welcoming and serving congregation for the generations to come. Together, we have shared the long journey to death and then celebrated God’s nal full welcome. Thanks be to God!And now, I have a new calling. Yes, God is full of surprises and, sometimes, shocks! My daughter, Ryda and her spouse, Ian have asked me to live with them in Alabama, to help with 4.5 year old Declan, 10 month old Poppy, and now, a baby due in December! I have seen that their need is urgent. I have to say — I never imagined Alabama, but I do believe that God is calling. I will be sharing time between Alabama and Minnesota in a rhythm yet to be discovered.

7FROM THE PASTOR (CONT.)So now, I must release the joy, the honor of serving with you in person as your Pastor-in-Residence for Visitation. I will continue to cherish the decades we have shared in so many ways- as pastor and congregation, friends and family of faith. And I will hold you in joyful care and grateful prayer as we all move into new ways of being God’s family of faith. Now I’ll just be a ways down the river. On God’s Journey, Pastor Lynn PetersonText to GiveDid you know you can donate to Pilgrim via text? 11education, service, & fellowshipWe Can’t Do Faith Alone: New Member Experience Sunday, October 30, 10:45 am - 12:00 pm at Pilgrim in the Fireside Room. I remember when someone from Pilgrim shared a few words at her son’s baptism, that her son being baptized was important to her because we can’t support our children in their faith on our own. We need a community. She is right; we can’t do this alone, nor do we want to. Not just when raising children, but for each of us at every age. Faith community comes from those who choose to be there for each other in worship and care for each other and others. Our connection to God grows and deepens as we are intentionally rooted in a faith community. On Sunday, October 30, at 10:45 am-12:00 pm we’ll oer an experience for people who wish to intentionally become rooted in the Pilgrim community to share their stories and connect with the life of Pilgrim. Those who would like to explore this intentional connection (new membership) are invited. If you have any questions or plan on attending, please contact Pastor Jen at pastorjenrome@pilgrimstpaul.org. Pie SalePilgrim’s Congregational Life and Care (CLC) is oering pies again this year, with all proceeds going to Interfaith Action of St. Paul.• Choose from apple or strawberry-rhubarb pies.
