Communicants come forward to receive the elements. Those serving Communion will cleanse their hands immediately before serving. On rst Sundays, communicants will rst receive a piece of bread from the pastor and eat it; then communicants will take an empty ceramic individual communion cup, which will be lled by a communion assistant with either wine or grape juice and drink it. Used cups will be collected in baskets on the way back to the pews. On third Sundays, Communicants will rst receive the bread, then dip it into the red wine or the white grape juice, and then eat it.• Worshipers who do not wish to come forward or who wish to not share in the communal bread and wine/juice during the distribution of Holy Communion may request a self-contained, sealed, individual communion kit before worship begins or may bring their own elements.• ALL people are ALWAYS welcome to receive Holy Communion.

from the pastorBY PASTOR JEN ROMENovember UpdatesDear Ones of Pilgrim,As the program year has begun, I’ve noticed how much longing there is for connection with our faith community at the same time as being completely depleted from the pandemic and the life of the world, let alone anything that is going on in our lives. For caregivers and many others, it’s hard to get out of bed on Sunday morning and come to church. It’s hard to do even one thing that is not absolutely necessary—like school, work, caregiving, sleep, or eating. The pandemic has worn us down a bit. And yet we still need each other—people of every age. When we say in the Creeds that “We believe in the communion of saints,” we are saying that we believe we are connected to others beyond time and space through Christ. Even if we’re not sure how that works (and I’m not sure), we often feel this connection to loved ones, beloved communities, no matter how long it has been since we have seen each other face to face. There are two things in our life together as a faith community that reect the communion of saints this month:1. All Saints Sunday is November 6. On this Sunday it is traditional to remember those who have died. If you have lost a loved one, you are invited to bring a photograph of them and place it on a window ledge in the sanctuary that day. On that day, we will also invite you to light a candle as worship begins as a sign of your continuing connection to your loved one in Christ.2. And Pilgrim welcomes a new Visitation Pastor, Rev. Russ Myers. He will be visiting those who are homebound, hospitalized or in care, and helping us nd ways to care for each other as a congregation. Russ Myers is an ELCA pastor who has served as chaplain at Allina Health for 29 years. He was chaplain at United Hospital for many years and more recently at Allina EMS, where he supports the paramedics, EMTs and dispatchers. Previous to chaplaincy he and his wife, Mary, served as co-pastors at two rural congregations in southern Wisconsin. He has two daughters; one lives in Duluth and one lives with her family in Andover. This summer, Russ and Mary and their grandson Daniel enjoyed a week on Madeline Island and a family camp program at Wilderness Canoe Base. You are a dear part of the communion of saints. We are connected in Christ beyond the limits of time and space. The care and connection carries us when we need it, surrounding us with the love and hope of God.Pastor Jen

MUSIC NOTES (CONT.)Contemplative Prayer (from Nordic and Other Lands)November 27 at 6:51 pmEmphasizes music from Scandinavian countries, now also featuring music and inuences from around the world. Preludes by guest musicians begin at 6:40 pm.Guest musicians for November 27: Earthtones Women’s ChorusThe Earthtones Women’s Chorus specializes in singing World Music, that is songs from all over the world. We sing 2-5 part harmony, this year accompanied by a drummer and a ukulele (for some songs). We have been singing together since the fall of 2000, and now have a project that goes from September to December, ending with a few concerts in late November and December. We have become good friends and love the opportunity to sing together each fall. This year we are singing songs about loving and caring for our Earth. We are led by Peggy Larson, cantor for Pilgrim contemplative services and singer and church choir director at The PORT in Bloomington.

givingBetter Together: Rising to the Call! How have you seen Pilgrims rise to the call? This is the question the G&G Team is asking you to reect on during this stewardship season which goes through Sunday, November 20.Each week during worship, we’ll hear from fellow Pilgrims in response to this question, about ways that Pilgrim is living our values and working towards changes for a more diverse, inclusive, and just future — and ways that Pilgrims are making a dierence within the church and beyond our building. We’ll also celebrate the work that’s been done in the past year as Pilgrim Lutheran Church has been through transition, marked a century, called a new pastor, and now embarks on a year of strategic planning and preparation. And if there are ways that Pilgrim has inspired YOU to rise to the call, we want to hear that, too — look for a rack card in the pews inviting you to share. It’s exciting stu! And the reality is that none of it is possible without the commitment of time, talents and treasure that YOU make. Did you know that donations to Pilgrim are our primary source of annual income? It is the generosity of each household in this congregation that makes Pilgrim’s ministry possible. And it is why the pledges submitted during stewardship season are critical for creating a budget for the year — one that enables our stang, our programming and the impact made by the work of this community. You’ll be receiving a statement of intent in the mail — please prayerfully consider what it means for your household to generously support the ministry of Pilgrim and return your statement of intent (or update your pledge on Simply Giving) by November 20. And then join us for worship on Generous Commitment Sunday as we give thanks for all the pledges in support of Pilgrim’s work in the coming year.

GIVING (CONT.)Text to GiveMany of us rarely have cash or a checkbook on us anymore. So when you want to put something in the oering plate at a worship service, but don’t have cash or a check, you can use a new tool available through Vanco (SimplyGiving) to support donations to Pilgrim’s ministry, GivePlus Text. You can make a contribution with a text with the easy text-to-give option. Text the 10 digit number assigned to Pilgrim, (844) 905-2734, and enter the amount you wish to give. When you receive the reply, click the registration link and enter your payment information. You will receive a text verication and an email receipt. For future giving, simply text the same number with the amount you wish to give, and the donation will process automatically. You can also text “repeat” to make it a recurring donation. Visit tinyurl.com/pilgrimtexttogive for more information and step-by-step instructions. It is super easy, especially after the rst time you use it (and that’s not dicult either)! This giving method has been thoroughly tested. Pilgrim receives donor information so oerings sent by this method will appear on your giving statements. If you have questions, please contact Pilgrim’s Business Manager, Cathy Salin at cathysalin@pilgrimstpaul.org, or call the oce at (651) 699-6886 and leave a message for her at extension 16.
