Communicants come forward to receive the elements. Those serving Communion will cleanse their hands immediately before serving. On rst Sundays, communicants will rst receive a piece of bread from the pastor and eat it; then communicants will take an empty ceramic individual communion cup, which will be lled by a communion assistant with either wine or grape juice and drink it. Used cups will be collected in baskets on the way back to the pews. On third Sundays, Communicants will rst receive the bread, then dip it into the red wine or the white grape juice, and then eat it.• Worshipers who do not wish to come forward or who wish to not share in the communal bread and wine/juice during the distribution of Holy Communion may request a self-contained, sealed, individual communion kit before worship begins or may bring their own elements.• ALL people are ALWAYS welcome to receive Holy Communion.

6from the pastorBY PASTOR JEN ROMEMay & June UpdatesWhat is Conrmation anyway? Conrmation is not school. Conrmation is not adults putting a lot of ideas about God into the heads of young people. Conrmation is not a test to pass. Conrmation is not graduation from church. Conrmation is not an expectation of requirement for participation in faith community. It certainly is not a requirement or expectation for salvation or being okay with God. It is not a binary choice of either you are in or you are out.Conrmation is a stop along the road, a chance to take a look around and notice where one is at in one’s life of faith and doubt. Some young people will choose to participate in this process, others will not. Some young people will choose to participate in the Conrmation Rite on Conrmation Sunday, May 7. Some will not. Whatever they choose, our calling as a congregation is clear: to surround every young person of Pilgrim with our love and support as they make their way through life. We support them as they question and explore and nd their way. We support them as they look around at the world and nd their places in it. We love them. All of them. With all of our hearts. With all of our own faith and doubt.I love this part of being a pastor — getting to know young people better in this important stage of life, with all their questions, ideas, struggles, and joys. Being a faith community together means we get to be honest and real with each other, and that is a gift. Thank you, conrmation youth and families, for allowing me and your congregation to stop along the road with you and take a look around from your perspective and notice all there is to notice about this dear and dicult life in the company of God and each otherPastor Jen Rome

8givingText to GiveMany of us rarely have cash or a checkbook on us anymore. So when you want to put something in the oering plate at a worship service, but don’t have cash or a check, you can use a new tool available through Vanco (SimplyGiving) to support donations to Pilgrim’s ministry, GivePlus Text. You can make a contribution with a text with the easy text-to-give option. Text the 10 digit number assigned to Pilgrim, (844) 905-2734, and enter the amount you wish to give. When you receive the reply, click the registration link and enter your payment information. You will receive a text verication and an email receipt. For future giving, simply text the same number with the amount you wish to give, and the donation will process automatically. You can also text “repeat” to make it a recurring donation. Visit tinyurl.com/pilgrimtexttogive for more information and step-by-step instructions. It is super easy, especially after the rst time you use it (and that’s not dicult either)! This giving method has been thoroughly tested. Pilgrim receives donor information so oerings sent by this method will appear on your giving statements. If you have questions, please contact Pilgrim’s Business Manager, Cathy Salin at cathysalin@pilgrimstpaul.org, or call the oce at (651) 699-6886 and leave a message for her at extension 16. 10education, service, & fellowshipCongregational Annual Meeting NoticeThe Congregational Annual Program Meeting will take place on May 21 at 10:45 am in the Fellowship Hall. New Vestry members will be elected and outgoing Vestry members will be thanked. You will hear from ministry leaders in the congregation about ways they are serving God and others. An update about facilities will be included as well. AND WE WILL HAVE A GOOD OLD POTLUCK. You can sign up to bring something to share or help with set up and clean up at this link: tinyurl.com/pilgrimannualmeeting2023.We Can’t Do Faith Alone: New Member ExperienceI remember when someone from Pilgrim shared a few words at her son’s baptism before the COVID pandemic. She shared that her son being baptized was important to her because we can’t support our children in their faith on our own. We need a community. She is right. We can’t do this alone. We don’t want to do this alone. Not just when raising children, but for each of us at every age. I’m not sure I believe in people being “members” of a church. An ocial status alone does not grant us faith community. Faith community comes from those who choose to be there for each other in worship and care for each other and others. Our connection to God grows and deepens as we are intentionally rooted in a faith community. On Sunday, June 11, from 10:45 am-12:00 pm, we’ll oer an experience for people who wish to intentionally become rooted in the Pilgrim community to share their stories and connect with the life of Pilgrim. Those who would like to or would like to explore this intentional connection (new membership) are invited. If you have any questions or plan on attending, please contact Pastor Jen at pastorjenrome@pilgrimstpaul.org.Pilgrim Friends of the GardenPilgrim Friends of the Garden will be working in the church perennial gardens May-September. Help is needed with replenishing soil, plantings, weeding and watering throughout the summer. If you enjoy playing in the dirt we hope you will join us! Times and days are exible. Contact Barbara Taylor at (651) 699-1095 or bstaylor50@gmail.com or Judy Tandy at Judithtande@yahoo.com for more information.
