worship4A Note from Pastor JenAs much as we can, let’s come to be together in person on Sundays. We need each other. And we need to keep becoming each other’s people, so we can rest in and rely on each other. This is how we will have the resilience to care for each other and our neighbors in days to come.April Worship Overview The basic pattern for Sunday mornings: • 9:30 am Worship with live streaming• 10:45 am Special Events like Coee Time and Learning ForumsWorship each Sunday morning includes “Point for Pilgrims” — an opportunity for children and their families to experience the Bible story in an engaging way. Livestreaming UpdateFor the foreseeable future, the worship livestream will be broadcast to YouTube only. This allows us to have a secure livestream that is not visible to the general public, and helps us keep our community safe while we continue to address safety concerns. If you receive the weekly emails from Pilgrim on Saturdays, you are on the mailing list for the livestream link. Look for an email from Pilgrim shortly before worship each Sunday with the link to join the livestream.April Worship Schedule Wednesday, April 2 — Lenten Wednesday Evening5:00 pm Soup Supper hosted by Congregational Life & Care6:30 pm Holden Evening Prayer with Jess Grams and Jenn Radtke, vocalists; Joanna Deer, piano; and Heather Ninow, ute. Communicants come forward to receive the elements. Those serving Communion will cleanse their hands immediately before serving. Communicants will rst receive the bread, then dip it into the red wine or the white grape juice, and then eat it. • Gluten free wafers and individual sealed, pre-packaged communion kits are also available. If you need communion brought to you in your seat, just let your usher know.• ALL people are ALWAYS welcome to receive Holy Communion.

7from the pastorApril UpdatesBY PASTOR JEN ROME“When his hour came, he took his place at the table, and the apostles with him.” -Luke 22:14For me, a highlight of Holy Week is Maundy Thursday. Holy Week slows down the pace of the story of Jesus’ last week of life for us to experience the story in real time, day by day. Maundy Thursday is the day when Jesus gathered with his disciples for the Passover, their last meal together, the meal which we look to as the beginning of the practice of Holy Communion.Meals are something that we eat in many ways — at the table alone, at the table with others, in a café, in the car, on the balcony, at a lunch table, on a blanket in the park, and on and on. Meals are important in our faith tradition. Holy Communion, the meal of worship, is a means of grace for us from God — we receive nourishment, forgiveness, the presence of God. It also oers us a vision of what an ordinary meal can be — holy in its own way. No one is excluded. There is enough for everyone. All are equal. A whole community gathers. Something happens in addition to our bellies being lled. On Maundy Thursday, we will have Dinner Church in the spirit of Jesus’ meal with his disciples. People of all ages will gather around tables with intentional conversation, activities, and celebrate the Lord’s Supper right at the table. We will reect on special meals in our lives (thanks for the topic idea, Director of Faith Formation, Micki Nyland!). We will wonder about how the faith practice of sharing meals with others brings us closer to the beloved community that Jesus gathered and by his Spirit still gathers today. We will leave the meal more connected to each other than when we sat down. We will also dream a little about the faith practice of sharing meals — in our own lives and life as a community. It was the connection and care of the last supper that helped hold Jesus’ followers together through the diculty of Good Friday and Holy Saturday — as well as open them up to the unexpected life of Easter Sunday. Our prayer is that this meal with hold us together in diculty and open us up to life in unexpected ways!Pastor Jen

9MUSIC NOTES (CONT.)Music Personnel Search Team Hiring UpdatesAs the vestry vice president, I formed a music personnel search team in late February to review the music position(s) job description and to interview the candidates this spring. This team consists of: Elizabeth Ankeny, Paul Heggeseth, Peter Spuit, Sara Wrolstad, Pastor Jen Rome, and myself. In our rst meeting, we discussed our values and priorities for music and worship at Pilgrim, so we can dene who we are as a worshiping community, and have a guiding framework as we meet with applicants. These are the values, copied from the job description:Creative and Rooted: We value using worship that is rooted in Lutheran theology and has liturgical depth, using tradition as a creative and imaginative medium with a diverse range of musical experiences (including global, contemplative, non-English language music, and paperless songs)Whole Person: We value worship that welcomes and includes our whole selves — our experiences, culture, race, ethnicity, ability, gender, sexual orientation, age. We actively seek out and use expansive language for God.All Ages: We value worship that engages active participation by all ages and levels of experience, including children. Connected: We value worship that connects us to the wider world, responsive to current events, inspiring and enacting our commitment to justice locally and globally.Like previous music personnel searches, we are posting this as 4 positions that can be combined: Director of Worship and Music, Director of Choirs, Organist and Pianist, and Director of Children’s Choir. Applicants with gifts to support some or all of these positions are encouraged to apply, and we are open to splitting into multiple positions or considering teams of musicians applying together if individual applicants are not able to fulll all of the activities. We hope to interview candidates after Easter. How can you help with this search process?Share the position with your networks outside of Pilgrim! While it will be posted on online job boards, word of mouth is still how many people hear of new job opportunities.Pray! Pray for discernment, for patience, for God’s guiding hand through these days and weeks, and for the Spirit to stir in the hearts of the right person or people to be called to ministry at Pilgrim.Thank you to the music personnel search team and Pastor Jen for their leadership in the process. I am always open to further conversation regarding this process, please reach out to me.Kirsten Larsen, on behalf of the Pilgrim Vestry
