6WORSHIP (CONT.)Important Information About Holy Communion • For the distribution of Holy Communion, ushers release the worshiping assembly row by row. Communicants come forward to receive the elements. Those serving Communion will cleanse their hands immediately before serving. On rst Sundays, communicants will rst receive a piece of bread from the pastor and eat it; then communicants will take an empty ceramic individual communion cup, which will be lled by a communion assistant with either wine or grape juice and drink it. Used cups will be collected in baskets on the way back to the pews. On third Sundays, Communicants will rst receive the bread, then dip it into the red wine or the white grape juice, and then eat it.• Worshipers who do not wish to come forward or who wish to not share in the communal bread and wine/juice during the distribution of Holy Communion may request a self-contained, sealed, individual communion kit before worship begins or may bring their own elements.• ALL people are ALWAYS welcome to receive Holy Communion.

7from the pastorBY PASTOR JEN ROMEApril Updates“Release yourself from the tyranny of spiritual certainty. Doubt is not a threat to faith; it’s faith that has nally taken o its mask. If you nd it dicult to believe in God or anything else during this season, that is okay. You have seen death, endured sorrow. Inhale: I am free to not know. Exhale: I can rest in the mystery.” From “Black Liturgies” by Cole Arthur RileyThis month begins with Holy Week, the time we focus on the stories of the last week of Jesus’ life. That week holds the one nearly universally indisputable historical fact about Jesus: that a man named Jesus was executed on a cross sometime between 30 or 33 CE. We will sit with the reality of that grim fact during Holy Week. The biblical narrative tells truth in the stories that surround that fact, a kind of truth that is dierent from a nearly universally indisputable historical fact. The meaning we take and make from the stories and ideas we have about Jesus’ life, death, and life again is important. Over Holy Week, we will hear and experience those important stories and let them interact with who we are as individuals, as a faith community, and as part of the wider community. Like any other time of the church year, please bring your faith and doubt to this Holy Week. Let yourself enter the story, consider its purpose. Bring your questions along with your ways of knowing. Wonder together what God has done through Jesus and what God is doing through us.And when Holy Week is over, we will gather for Hungry Minds and Souls Sunday the very next week, when we give doubt and questions their faithful due. Together, that one nearly universally indisputable historical fact, the meaningfully true narrative that surrounds it, and our collective wonder will help us rest in the mystery of God.Pastor Jen Rome

You may contact Paul at SteverPaul55@aol.com if you’d like to receive music ahead of time.Choral Scholar Program FundraiserPilgrim Lutheran’s Choral Scholar Program is one of our music ministry’s most important support systems for vital music ministry. About four individuals oer their invaluable support to our choirs and music programming every year through singing in the choir and sometimes also leading sectionals or enjoying other types of solo and leadership roles. Without their contributions, much of what we currently do would not be possible. Please join me in thanking Carey Shunskis (soprano), Kat Middledorp (alto), Sam Fouts (tenor) and Henry Radoc (bass) for making music with us throughout this year.About 75% of the funds needed for this programming are donated directly to the Choral Scholar Fund by you, Pilgrim members and friends. The Choral Scholar Fund donation site is available as one of the options on Pilgrim’s donation page, tinyurl.com/pilgrimstpaul. Please consider a gift of personal signicance to this fund today, especially during this month of March. We need to raise about $1500-2000 this spring in order to make plans to oer our current level of programming again in the 2023-24 season. The number of dollars needed is this low because we have an anonymous donor who makes a signicant gift every year. We are so grateful for every contribution.

10givingText to GiveMany of us rarely have cash or a checkbook on us anymore. So when you want to put something in the oering plate at a worship service, but don’t have cash or a check, you can use a new tool available through Vanco (SimplyGiving) to support donations to Pilgrim’s ministry, GivePlus Text. You can make a contribution with a text with the easy text-to-give option. Text the 10 digit number assigned to Pilgrim, (844) 905-2734, and enter the amount you wish to give. When you receive the reply, click the registration link and enter your payment information. You will receive a text verication and an email receipt. For future giving, simply text the same number with the amount you wish to give, and the donation will process automatically. You can also text “repeat” to make it a recurring donation. Visit tinyurl.com/pilgrimtexttogive for more information and step-by-step instructions. It is super easy, especially after the rst time you use it (and that’s not dicult either)! 11from the vestryLiving Lutheran UpdateFor years, Pilgrim members have been receiving a print periodical called Living Lutheran. This periodical shared about the life and ministry of the ELCA, the national denomination that Pilgrim is a part of. Over this time, the cost for each individual subscription has been paid for out of the Pilgrim budget. The recently approved congregational budget included discontinuing our subscription by May 2023 for all but our homebound members. Two external factors either inuenced or helped to solidify this decision: 1) much of the content is available online, and 2) Living Lutheran recently announced that they will no longer be distributing a print magazine beyond 2023.As such, the last issue Pilgrim members (other than those who are homebound) will receive will be the March/April 2023 issue. You can continue to read and engage with similar content on the Living Lutheran website at livinglutheran.org.If you have any questions or concerns, please contact someone from the Vestry. We are grateful for the ways this publication connected us with the wider church; and we are grateful that we can still nd such connection through their website. It’s Silver Pilgrim Time – Nominate a Pilgrim!Do you know someone who has been a rock upon which Pilgrim is built? Then please consider nominating this Pilgrim member for the 2023 Silver Pilgrim award. Past winners have served Pilgrim by promoting environmental and economic justice, leading in faith formation, and enriching Pilgrim’s community life. There’s no end of ways by which your fellow Pilgrims make our church a home for hungry minds and souls, and the Silver Pilgrim award is a wonderful way to recognize that. View past recipients here.If you know someone who should be recognized, please email your nomination to silverpilgrim2@gmail.com by Sunday, April 30. If you do not have email or have questions, please call the church oce. The Silver Pilgrim will be awarded at the spring congregational meeting on Sunday, May 21.

14children, youth, & familiesBY MICKI NYLANDApril Faith Formation While living in Minnesota means we might have a snowfall (or two) in April, it at least feels like spring is nally upon us! Join us at Pilgrim as we journey through the end of Lent and into Easter. At Pilgrim, communion is open to all ages; this time together is a chance to learn and celebrate no matter if you are looking forward to receiving Holy Communion for the rst time or exploring it again.
