The High Holidays Make a Monetary Donation to Operation Isaiah Food Distribution Four ways to Prepare Ourselves for the Holidays 1 Saturday afternoon Study Series I sent you an email on August 3rd about a 6 week study series leading up to the High Holy Days Each session is focused on a theme that will help each of us transition from this most unusual year as we ready ourselves for the High Holy Days The link for my Shabbat afternoon class is available on the Park website as well as in the Weekly Wrap Each High holiday season we help people who are hungry in our community through Park s Operation Isaiah project While in prior years we asked for food donations this year we are only collecting money that will be used to purchase grocery gift cards for those in need Please consider donating any amount to Park s Hunger Mitzvah Fund by September 25 You can donate by credit card online at www parksynagogue org or by sending a check payable to Park Synagogue to Operation Isaiah Park Synagogue 27500 Shaker Blvd Pepper Pike OH 44124 Operation Isaiah is sponsored by Park s Social Action Committee 3 We need a prayer book We use The New Mahzor Mahzor Hadash both for online Shabbat and for the upcoming High Holy Days If you are a newer member and don t have one CALL THE MAIN OFFICE Speak to Mary at 216 371 2244 ext 135 Don t wait for the eve of Rosh Hashanah to ask for a book as I am sure it will be a hectic time Join us on Zoom for High Holiday Shabbat Singing Class with Sharon Shaffer Park s Choir Director September 8 7 00 8 30 pm Zoom 4 Set yourself up in your home for Zoom services in a way that creates a mood for this occasion At a desk In a comfortable chair If you experience High Holy Days in bed in pajamas or mixing yourself a peach yogurt in jogging clothes trust me IT WILL NOT feel like the High Holy Days The best Zoom service cannot create an atmosphere in your home unless you participate in that mood And clothing matters We should dress for Rosh Hashanah in our homes as we would for the holidays if they were being held in the Sanctuary Do you like to sing at services but find that your family asks you to stop Do you want to sing the congregational hymns and prayers better during the High Holidays Shabbat Does your voice crack on the high notes If you answered yes to any of these questions then this class is for you This is a singing class for beginners but all are welcome We will cover beginner breathing techniques and matching pitch to sing in tune Also tricks of the trade for special circumstances like high notes If you have children set up a room with chairs for everybody to join the service Talk about it with your children in advance Let them understand what you are doing If you treat these moments with respect a proper mood will be set I guarantee you if you and your household dress in nice clothing sit together as a family read and sing prayers together and watch the screen you will have a more meaningful High Holy Day experience The warmth of our services will enhance your experience but even more so it is the mood that you establish in your own home that makes the difference Pre registration is required by September 7 in order to receive the Zoom link Register online using the Park website or link in the Weekly Wrap or by emailing Ellen Petler at epetler parksyn org Free and open to everyone March 2018 2020 September 2 Become familiar with the services online Attend our Shabbat Zoom Services We have them each week and hundreds of congregants attend We will rely on online services for the holidays If we want a meaningful Zoom service on Rosh Hashanah let s not wait until the day of Rosh Hashanah to tune in Learn the mechanics of joining a service online and participating Become comfortable with what we have been doing for five months It is time for all of us to join the routine Page 4 www parksynagogue org
