THE FARMS COUNTRY CLUB30The Greens & Grounds Committee would like to ask each of you to helpmaintain our course at the highest levels possible by engaging in thefollowing activities during play: Please replace all divots with either theoriginal divot or mix on all divots created or seen in the general area ofplay. Replacing divots with the original if possible in both the fairway andrough is the preferred method of fixing the area. Divot mix is provided onall golf carts and additional small, sand canisters have been purchasedby the Pro Shop and can be provided to all walkers to ensure that everytype of golfer can engage in this important activity. In addition, we willprovide a number of locations throughout the course (tee boxes of # 2,6,10 and 13) where sand canisters can be found and refilled. We ask thatyou return the small canisters to the Pro Shop staff at the end of eachround. Please fix all ball marks on the green before you place your ballmarker behind your ball. Also, look to fix any other ball marks that mayhave been missed as you walk on the green. Please rake all sand areas inthe bunkers that have been disturbed and others that may have beenmissed and place rakes appropriately spaced outside of the bunker. Please obey all signs and warnings to keep golf carts and push cartsaway from vulnerable areas of the golf course to help maintain the turf. These are just a few steps each of us can make to help protect theinvestment we have made in making the Farms Country Club a premieregolf course and improving the playability throughout the season. Werecognize that while these may seem like obvious steps each of us cantake, it will go along way in ensuring an enjoyable golf season! Play Well! Greens & Grounds CommitteeGOLF COURSE

THE FARMS COUNTRY CLUB32 rule of the week GOLFIn your weekly league match, you have 18 feet for birdie andyour opponent has a 5 footer. They get to the green before youand tap in their birdie putt. Now all of a sudden, you know youhave no choice but to hole your putt. If they threw a mark on it,you would have the opportunity to put the pressure on them.Their 5 footer would look a lot longer. In match play, you have the option to make your opponent whoplays “out of turn” play again, with no penalty. If they arecloser to the hole and play first, you can promptly “cancel”their stroke and they have to replay it after you. This becomesimportant in match play scenarios as your psychology changesbased on other player’s results in this format. I would neverrecommend calling this unless it is an egregious offense. Theexception to this is that you may allow opponents to play outof turn to speed up pace of play and save time. This isencouraged, but be careful putting out of turn, as you may getasked to do it again!
