PRESENTSCHAPTER 2: LIVING JOYFULLY
2Welcome to your second month of The Duet ProjectIn Chapter 1 you shared with each other about Knowing Your Own Needs and understanding the importance of speaking up for yourselves to get your needs met. This month you will share how you each find joy, and likely discover new ways to live a more joyful life. Before getting started, here are a few reminders: Designate time on your calendars this month to show your commitment to each other. Answer authentically. Listen with curiosity. Allow the questions to be answered without interruption. It’s in the silence that thoughts are forming. Be honest and genuine with your answers. Remember, it’s wise and appropriate at times to say “I need to give that some thought.” Stay off your phones. Have fun being creative and vulnerable with each other!Use #TheDuetProjectTag @AmysArtPaletteThank you for joining The Duet Project and growing your connection and expression!Xoxo, AmyDon’t forget to share your creations on social media!
IntroductionLiving JoyfullyThis Duet Project edition evokes a sense of joyful creativity, allowing for individuals to express themselves through mixed media collage. A collage is a piece of art made by sticking various different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric onto a backing. Part of the fun is the hunt and collection of tiny momentos and objects to use in decorating each board. Design and create one board each to keep, one board each to share and then use the remaining two boards to design and create together. The instructions will reveal a masterpiece and quality time to share.Don’t Forget to Subscribe!Click here to prepare for this session by listening to this podcast3

InstructionsMixed Media CollageProtect work surface with newspaper or old tableclothThe intention of this project is that at the end, you’ll each have a set of three boards: one made by you, one made by the other person, and one made together. You’ll be connecting them at the end of the project. “Yours, Mine, Ours”Creation Session #1Paint the Boards! I love double-dipping paint on my brush and exploring with paint and color. Layer the paint, mix the colors and paint a background for your collage on each of your boards. Create patterns, designs and texture. Allow to dry completely.8
InstructionsCreation Session #2It’s time to decorate! You’ll each be making two of your own boards, and two of the boards will be created together. The collage technique allows for so much personal expression to happen. Use the found items and photos in your design... and keep experimenting with the placement until you love it. Anything can be added to your collage. Mix and match your treasures and keep trying new layouts until you love it! Once your design is complete, glue all the pieces down (a glue gun might be helpful for heavier objects). Highlight some areas with the glitter glue. There is no one way to do this and you should make it exactly how you want to make it. Just have fun creating!Allow to dry completely.9
InstructionsCreation Session #3Assembly time!Choose one board to keep, one board to share and decide which “together” board each person will get to keep. Arrange them vertically on the table in this order: “Yours, Ours, Mine.”YoursOursMineWhile the boards are next to each other on the table, line up the holes and use about 6 inches of the string to connect them. To make it hangable, double up the string to create a loop at the top. Sign and date the back of the boards!10YoursOursMine

Welcome! I’m Amy!My Nani Belle used to call me a “BALABOOSTA.”Have you ever heard of that term? Do you know what that means? Balaboosta is a Yiddish term meaning the perfect housewife and mother. According to Chef Einat Admony of Balaboosta NYC, a balaboosta is“the fearless emotional center of her family, who makes sure her table is not only full of gorgeous food, but also full of friends, love, laughter.”If I had to answer the question “What brings me joy?”, 100% I would say when my house is filled with people connecting, laughing and, of course, eating!I love everything about it: The prep and thinking through how best to set up the house. The guest list - Everyone’s invited! (The pandemic put a wrench in that and I’m looking forward to the time when everyone can really be invited) The activities- games? Puzzles? Art project? Dancing? Ping pong? …. or just being together. The food- I find joy in cooking for others and also tasting what other people bring to share.I guess my Nani Belle was right. I am a balaboosta, and proud of it!The Duet Project encapsulates the balaboosta experience. I envision the prep of art supplies, the chosen pair connecting on a deeper level, the various projects I send each month, and maybe even a snack. What brings you joy?13
