Welcome to the Winter 2024 edition of the Coo-Y-Yah report! is edition seeks to focus on recognizing the people who make Pryor Creek so great. e blueprints seen throughout the report are pulled from the preliminary plans for just a few of the improvements included in Pryor Main Street’s Streetscape plan. Graham Ave (SH 20) and S. Adair St., includes pedestrian-friendly enhancements such as improved sidewalks, safer crossings, landscaping, and new site furnishings.Oklahoma Department of Transportation has approved 100% of the plan and site review. Construction is set to begin this fall, bringing long-awaited improvements that will set the stage for the future of Pryor.is eort is a crucial step in creating a vibrant, accessible downtown that reects Pryor’s rich history while positioning it for continued growth. Dear Friends and Neighbors of Pryor Creek,It is an honor and a privilege to serve as your mayor, and to share an update on our city. e past few months have posed challenges as we navigate the nancial landscape. Many cities across the country are facing tough decisions, and Pryor Creek is no exception. However, it is in these very moments that we must look not just at the hurdles, but at the heart of what makes our community truly special.Yes, we face nancial hurdles, but we also have so much to be proud of. We are incredibly fortunate to have a city full of hardworking, dedicated employees who go above and beyond every day to keep things running smoothly. Our public servants, from our Police and Fire departments to our Library, Streets, Parks, Recreation Center, Golf Course, and the administrative sta at City Hall, are all truly our biggest and best asset.ese individuals give their time and eort to make Pryor Creek a safe, vibrant, and welcoming place to live. ey are the foundation of our daily lives—whether it’s making sure the streets are clean, that our parks are maintained, that emergency services are ready to respond, or that our local government runs eciently. eir commitment to our community is what keeps us moving forward.Beyond the employees who serve our city, we as a community are truly blessed. In dicult times, we have witnessed the strength of our residents—coming together to support one another, to volunteer, to li each other up, and to invest in the future of Pryor Creek. is sense of community is what makes us unique. At work, she values ensuring city information is accessible and encouraging public engagement through eective communication.Sheryl LaueCommunity Development ClerkSheryl manages Code Enforcement, Community Development, and provides support for the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Board of Adjustment. Her favorite part of working at City Hall is the strong teamwork in the oce and providing excellent customer service.Ashley BryantDeputy Court ClerkAshley manages citations, court notes, payments, and other processes that keep our municipal court running smoothly. She enjoys the kindness of the people she helps and the camaraderie of her coworkers. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and children.Ha n n a h M o rrisCity ClerkOur new City Clerk Hannah brings extensive experience in Human Resources and a creative approach to problem-solving. She values strong teamwork, good service, and clear communication. Outside of work, she enjoys music and spending time with family.Darla CoatsAccounts Payable ClerkDarla processes invoices for all city departments and manages cemetery records. A trained pianist and vocalist, she enjoys serving through music. She values teamwork, lifelong learning, and the sense of accomplishment in her role.

Gary BuffingtonMaintenanceGary has worked in general maintenance for seven years and now oversees building upkeep and groundskeeping for city properties. He takes pride in keeping things running smoothly and looking their best.Cindy BlackJanitorialCindy keeps the Utility Oce, City Hall, Library, and Graham Community buildings clean and welcoming. She enjoys time with her grandkids and walking her dogs. Her favorite part of the job is knowing her work makes a dierence—and the people she works with.

Dunk Tank Officer NidesIn August 2024, Pryor Creek Police Ocers volunteered to participated in a dunk tank fundraiser beneting the Pryor Mission. is event not only raised funds for a great cause but also helped to strengthen the connection between local law enforcement and the citizens they serve. Lifesaving AwardOfficers Bennett and FludOcers Bennett and Flud received Lifesaving Awards aer they responded quickly and eectively to a baby who was choking. eir training and ability to remain calm under pressure made all the dierence in the critical moments, and their quick thinking ensured the baby’s safety. Visit from Governor StittOfficers Reese and FludOcers Reese and Flud had the honor of greeting the Governor during his visit to the police department. is visit provided an opportunity for state leadership to connect with local law enforcement, discuss ongoing community initiatives and show support for the work being done at the ground level.

Community Support Officers Allen and ArmontroutOcers Allen and Armontrout volunteered their time to ring bells for the Salvation Army at Wal-Mart, showing their support for the local community and those in need. Lifesaving Award Officers Conseen and MerrittOcers Conseen and Merritt were awarded Lifesaving Awards for their heroic eorts in saving a baby who had been attacked by a dog. eir swi and decisive actions prevented further injury, and their bravery in such a dangerous situation saved a young life. Police and Fire Departments e Pryor Police and Fire Departments worked together to support a local fundraiser to give back to the community and support a great cause. Both departments are always ready to help out whenever needed.

Junior Police Academy Chief Cantrell and Ocer Sean Scott led lessons on police procedures, ethics, and community involvement, helping participants understand the important role ocers play in keeping neighborhoods safe. Ocers Garrett and Reese also led a Junior Police Academy, giving local youth a hands-on look at police work while teaching safety, responsibility, and teamwork.

Kim H ein sOffice Manager / Group Fitness InstructorKim Heins has been with PCRC since 2014 and has lived in Pryor since 2006. Outside of her work as Oce Manager and Group Fitness Instructor, Kim enjoys endurance activities and spending time with her ve children, who each have their own busy schedules. She is passionate about helping others reach their personal tness goals and believes everyone should feel comfortable and condent in a gym environment.Mike MooreDirectorMike Moore, PCRC’s Director, is originally from Pryor Creek, Oklahoma. He has had a diverse career in sports and recreation, including coaching football and serving as an athletic director at Mayville State University in North Dakota. Aer 30 years in North Dakota, Mike moved to Kansas and then to Oklahoma, where he became the Director of PCRC in 2023.Katie KernAssistant DirectorKatie Kern joined PCRC as the Assistant Director in 2023, bringing her passion for tness and community service. Before joining PCRC, Katie spent 8 years as a teacher and cross-country/track coach. She is currently working towards her personal training certication and is excited to help others reach their tness goals.

Brittany EnglehardtFront Desk Receptionist / Opening ManagerBrittany Englehardt has been with PCRC for over 11 years, starting right aer high school. She works as a Front Desk Receptionist and Opening Manager, handling ling and scanning as well. Brittany enjoys spending time with her coworkers and nds joy in their lively atmosphere. Outside of work, she loves reading, playing Dungeons & Dragons, watching cooking shows, and helping her sister with her dice-making business, “Dark Gem Dice.” Brittany is also a fan of the Renaissance Fair and enjoys creating costumes for various events.Russ HaynesFront Desk ReceptionistRuss Haynes, a proud 1985 graduate of Pryor High School, returned to his hometown three years ago aer working in various places. He has been with PCRC for 18 months, where he enjoys connecting with the community and assisting patrons at the front desk. Russ especially loves running into old friends and their families, and he looks forward to serving the community for many years.Rob Morg a nMaintenanceRob Morgan is a lifelong resident of Pryor Creek, Oklahoma, and has worked in Maintenance at PCRC for several years. He lives on his family’s land with his wife Lori, their two sons, and their dogs. Rob enjoys spending time with his family, camping, hunting, and riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.Jess RegerGroup Fitness InstructorJess Reger moved to Mazie, Oklahoma in 2020 to help her grandmother and began working at PCRC in 2021. She became the Group Fitness Coordinator in 2023 and is certied through A.C.E. as a Group Fitness Instructor. Jess has a background in soccer and spent 8.5 years at the YMCA in Arizona before joining PCRC. She enjoys helping others achieve their tness goals and loves being part of a community focused on self-improvement. Outside of work, Jess enjoys traveling and has visited 39 states and 27 countries.

Jackie MoyersAquatic CoordinatorJackie Moyers, PCRC’s Aquatic Coordinator, has been passionate about swimming since she was six months old. With a degree in Exercise Science and a minor in Dance, Jackie has taught swim lessons since age 13. Aer moving to Oklahoma in 2014, she joined PCRC and has since taught adult aerobics, run the pool, and led swimming lessons. Jackie believes every child should learn to swim and be water-safe. It takes all of us, along with several AMAZING volunteers, to keep this place clean and the animals fed, watered, vaccinated, dewormed, and socialized. eir help with walking the dogs and spending time with the animals of Rockin G helps them become more adoptable so they can nd their forever homes.” - Becki Sams-BenhamBecki Sams-Benham Department Head / Animal Control OfficerAnimal Control Ocer Sams-Benham showcased her skills when she successfully captured a pig that had wandered loose on Irving Street. Her quick response and calm demeanor helped ensure the safety of both the animal and the community.

Amy McFarlandPart-Time Kennel Technician / Office AssistantAmy McFarland helps ensure the animals at Rockin G Animal Shelter are featured on the Facebook page to help them nd their forever homes. She also lls in wherever needed, working as a backup in various areas of the shelter.Skyler HensonKennel TechnicianSkyler Henson works hard to keep all the dogs at Rockin G Animal Shelter fed, clean, and walked. e dogs love her for her care and attention, and Skyler’s hard work makes sure they are all well cared for.Maria HargesOce Manager / Animal Control OcerMaria Harges serves as the Oce Manager and Animal Control Ocer at Rockin G Animal Shelter. She works to keep all the paperwork organized and the facility well-maintained. Maria is also known as the shelter’s best cat tamer!Robert PriceAnimal Control Officer / Kennel TechnicianRobert Price is a friend to all the dogs at Rockin G Animal Shelter! As an Animal Control Ocer and Kennel Technician, he keeps the kennels clean and answers animal calls in the community.

Captain Don HessC-Shift CaptainCaptain Don Hess, also known as “Yo,” has served with the Pryor Fire Department since June 1986 and continues to work as Captain on the C-Shi. A proud United States Marine Corps Veteran, Yo takes great pride in responding to re calls and training new reghters, sharing his decades of experience with the team.

Don and Dusty are responsible for keeping Pryor’s outdoor spaces enjoyable for the whole community! As a team, they maintain our parks and the Library and City Hall lawns. DustyAssistant SuperintendentAs the Assistant Superintendent, Dusty runs the larger equipment needed to maintain the grounds, as well as handling construction projects and repairs to the playground equipment. Dusty has served with the city for a total of 12 years, split between two terms. DonMaintenanceDon has been a valued member of the team for 5 years, working on minor electrical and plumbing repairs, as well as repairs to equipment.Joel and Lucas are both crucial to maintaining our beautiful cemetery. Together, they keep the grounds well manicured and the gravesites well maintained.JoelPrimary Backhoe OperatorJoel has been with the Cemetery for 20 years as the primary backhoe operator.LucasCemetery RecordsLucas has worked keeping the records up to date for 13 years.

Not pictured: Pam. is dedicated team has collectively worked at the Pryor Public Library for nearly 50 years, with each team member contributing at least two years to the library’s success. Together, they hold 11 college degrees, including three master’s degrees. Outside of work, the team shares a love for their pets, with 11 dogs, 21 cats, one snake, and one goldsh among them. In their free time, they enjoy a variety of hobbies, including knitting, hiking, reading, traveling, and spending time with their friends and families. ey also have a passion for serving their community, making art, playing board and video games, and caring for plants. Whether it’s enjoying naps, going on adventures, hanging out at Fat Toad, or simply being fabulous, this group truly makes the library a special place.
