When school started last August, we welcomed the class of 2027, six new teachers, and four new staffmembers. We now have seventeen alumni working on our campus! In February, I loved watching our Lady Bruin Basketball team win the NCS championship and then getting tohelp distribute the medals. Our incoming freshmen, the class of 2028, will be our largest class since 2019!This year, we will begin working on our accreditation from the Western Catholic Education Association (WCEA).It will be an opportunity to assess where we are and plan for the future. We will conduct surveys with students, parents, and employees. Parents will be emailed their survey on August 23. If parents complete the survey(which is a little long), they will receive one service hour. More information will be provided at Back to SchoolNight on August 22. In my vision for the future of SPSV, I want to make sure that our plans are Sustainable, Prayerful, Scholarly, andVibrant. God is good, and I am grateful! I am especially grateful for all the people who say yes to SPSV.Grace and peace,One of my favorite church songs is “Digo Sí Señor” by Donna Peña and my favoriteline is, “I say ‘Yes,’ my Lord, in all the good times, through all the bad times.” A yearago I said, “YES!” and accepted the job as Head of School at St. Patrick-St. VincentCatholic High School. It has been an action packed year and I am so glad I said,“yes!” I’d like to share a few of my favorite highlights:On July 29, 2023 we hosted the first All School Reunion Picnic. It was a lovelyafternoon where students, alumni, faculty, staff and friends gathered toreconnect. Moving Foreword Nora J. RodgersHead of SchoolTHE BRIDGE | 2A Message from the Head of School

Class of 2024Celebrating theAn old saying emphasizes the importance of finishing strong: “It’s not howyou start that’s important, but how you finish!” This statement ringsparticularly true for the Class of 2024. This group of young men and women, with their unique journey culminating in a joyous graduation ceremony, exemplifies resilience and determination. Eighty-two seniors confidentlywalked across the stage after four years of hard work and perseverance. To fully grasp their journey, let’s turn the pages of time back four years toMarch 2020. Everything stopped. Everything changed. The setting wassurreal, reminiscent of the hit 1960s TV show "The Twilight Zone." I canalmost hear Rod Serling’s voice: “There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is themiddle ground between light and shadow, science and superstition, and liesbetween the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is thedimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Twilight Zone.” And The Twilight Zone it was.The Class of 2024 faced a unique start as they entered high school. In this“Twilight Zone,” students overcame school closures, daily routine shifts, and asudden transition to online learning. Major events like prom were canceled, and uncertainty about the future loomed. Despite these challenges, theypersevered and continued their academic journey. Now, four years later, most of the obstacles and woes of the pandemic aredistant memories. Graduation day has arrived! Despite beginning high schoolamidst the challenges of a pandemic, the SPSV Class of 2024 achieved asignificant milestone. By Lane HawkinsTHE BRIDGE | 8

With remarkable resilience and determination, theypersevered and learned to thrive, a feat they shouldbe immensely proud of. They joined the ranks of 37other classes to call themselves SPSV graduates.Graduation traditionally signifies a transition towardsfuture opportunities, building on years of dedication, growth, and learning. It marks the beginning of newadventures andchallenges in highereducation, careers, orpersonal pursuits. For theClass of 2024, thisgraduation was notmerely a rite of passage;it declared their ability toovercome any challengelife may present.Valedictorian Emma Boyle eloquently reflected ontheir unique journey and the lessons learned, stating,"We faced challenges that no other class before ushad to face, but we did not let those challengesdefine us. Instead, we used them as opportunities togrow and become stronger."Although their journey began unlike any class beforethem, they culminated their high school experiencewith a profound sense of confidence and hope. Theyhave proven to themselves and the world that theycan adapt, endure, and thrive, no matter thecircumstances. For the Class of 2024, I offer this blessing: May your future be as bright and limitless as the dreams youhold. Just as you persevered through the challenges of COVID-19 with resilience and determination, may you continue to face life's obstacles with the same strength and courage. Embraceevery opportunity with enthusiasm and navigate your journeywith wisdom and grace. I pray God’s prosperity will overwhelmyou. Remembering lessons learned, friendships forged, andyour resilience, be blessed as you go forward confidently, knowing you can achieve greatness.Your future is filled with endless possibilities, and I am excitedto see the heights you will reach.Congratulations, Class of 2024!THE BRIDGE | 9

SPOTLIGHTSPOTLIGHTALUMNINorthern California Emmy Award WinnerNEIL RAYOS ‘12High School Experience at SPSVReturning to one's roots often brings a unique blend of nostalgia and purpose. For ournewest Studio Production teacher, Neil Rayos, his journey began right here at St. Patrick-St. Vincent Catholic High School, class of 2012. Reflecting on his time as a student, Neilshared, "Some of my favorite memories include performing in various theater shows. Itreally helped grow my love for the arts. Senior Sunrise was also a favorite memory—early breakfast, a beautiful sunrise, and a wonderful moment with my closest friends."Key influences during his high school years included Mr. Kraft, who ignited his passionfor theater, and other supportive educators like Mrs. Macariola and Ms. Quan. He fondlyrecalls, "Mr. Kraft helped me to love theater and gave me grace when I messed up duringa production. Ms. MacMillan was very caring about my well-being and dedicated toCampus Ministry."Connection to the School and CommunityReturning to SPSV as a teacher has been a fulfilling, full-circle moment for Neil. "It feels appropriate to come back to SPSV tohelp out and teach students studio production. Film and production is something I'm super passionate about, so I hope to atleast spark one student's love for it."Giving back to the community that shaped him has been a lifelong goal. "I wanted to give back the lessons I learned in thearts to students who have and want the opportunity. I didn't have the same opportunity when I attended, so giving back to thecommunity that helped spark my original interest is really rewarding."THE BRIDGE | 16

Page 18

Emmy WinNeil's professional journey is equally inspiring, having played a pivotal role in the Emmy-winning project for the Golden StateWarriors. "I mostly handled the production side of the video. Making sure the crew, talent, and equipment arrived promptlyand that the space was ready for us. It was all about ensuring the video was ready to be shot, looked good, and the contentwas worthy of being made."Transition to TeachingBalancing his professional career with teaching, Neil is enthusiastic about imparting his knowledge to students. "I wanted toteach because I wanted to allow my community to come and learn about video production. I can continue to learn and be astudent of the art while also showing students all the new and old lessons I've learned."What excites Neil most about his new role is sharing his passion. "I think that's what really stood out to me when I was herelearning from Mr. Kraft—the passion and fun he had while teaching the subject. I want to allow the students to showcase theirwork to the greater student body and community, showcasing what they learned in their own reel and on social media."Teaching Studio ProductionNeil's professional experiences will play a crucial role in his teaching methods. "Working for the Golden State Warriors hasshown me how to be a professional in the industry. I have experience in all aspects of production and plan to teach the kidsthe basics and then how to develop that into a higher standard of video production."He emphasizes the importance of understanding the "why" behind production choices and the emotional impact on theaudience. "At the end of the day, everyone who goes through my class will be able to handle the basics, but understandingwhy this or that has to happen and how the audience is going to feel is essential to creating higher quality videos."Advice and InsightsFor students interested in pursuing a career in video production, Neil offers valuable advice: "Be very purposeful in everythingthat you do. You won't have a high budget early in your career, so how can I be creative in creating content or videos? It's agrind; you must work on it a lot to master it. Learn from your mistakes. Lastly, have fun! Art and video aren't worth it if you'renot having fun."Reflecting on his journey, Neil wishes he had networked more. "Everyone's a little shy, but put yourself out there! Manybeginners aren't going to have a full crew, so make more friends and collaborate a little more."We are thrilled to welcome back Neil Rayos as he embarks on this new chapter, inspiring the next generation of creatives atSPSV. His journey from stage to studio serves as a testament to the enduring impact of our school community.CONGRATULATIONSto Anthony ‘14 and Celine Polintan ’12 Williams Myles Antonio WilliamsTHE BRIDGE | 17

SUPPORTING SPSV An SPSV education provides excellent opportunities for young men and women to develop life-long learning habits, coupledwith a strong sense of spirituality and community service. Unrestricted gifts to SPSV help support the school's annualactivities. Restricted gifts provide for the future. Gifts accepted at SPSV include: Scholarships: Permanently endowed scholarships offer a unique opportunity to remember or honor a loved onewhile supporting the educational needs of some of our less economically advantaged students. Funds are held inan endowment, with the earnings used each year to fund the scholarship. Non-endowed scholarships allowindividuals to be “Tuition Angels”, providing support on an annual basis for our scholarship program; in this case, the entire gift is disbursed to help less advantaged students. Outright Gifts: Cash and check donations are always welcome. They may be unrestricted or designated to a specialprogram, department, or campaign. All outright gifts are tax deductible. Gifts of Securities: Gifts of stocks are tax-deductible to the full market value and may help you avoid capital gains taxes.Contact our development office to find out how to best make a transfer of any stocks.
