The Metropolitan Amateur Golf Association has issued Course Ratings and Slopes based on this routing. Individual hole handicaps have been adjusted allowing 9 holes scores to be posted in GHIN. Golf Genius will be utilized throughout the Briar Cup and will reflect the modified course routing. All scorecards are also marked appropriately. THE “SHOOT-OUT” · The 10 flight winners and 3 Wild Card teams will compete in a 5-hole alternate shot “Shoot-Out” to determine The Briar Cup Champion. · Holes #7, #8, #9, #11, and #12 will be used · Team Handicaps will be calculated by taking 50% of the combined team course handicap. Strokes will be allocated based on the revised Briar Cup course and hole ratings and will be applied as they fall. · Teams must designate a player (Player A) to tee off on the first shoot-out hole. The other player (Player B) will then tee off on the subsequent hole with the two players continuing to alternate tee shots until they are eliminated. · 5 teams will be eliminated on the 1st hole, 4 teams on the 2nd hole, 1 team on the 3rd hole, 1 team on the 4th hole, 1 team on the 5th hole. · A chip-off will be used to break any ties on the first 4 holes of the Shoot-Out. · If the final two teams tie the last Shoot-Out hole, a sudden death playoff will be conducted using holes 7 & 12 in rotation continuing with the same format until a winner is determined. The Briar Cup SHOOT-OUT WAGERING · Bets of Win, Place & Show will be taken on the 13 Shoot-Out partici-pants. Minimum wager is $5 (CASH ONLY). · Payouts will be determined based on the total amount wagered THURSDAY NIGHT CALCUTTA (CASH ONLY) The Briar Cup Calcutta will be held on the eve of matches in the Main Dining Room. Appetizers will be offered and members sign for drinks. Teams can purchase themselves prior to the Calcutta for a “buy now” cost of $1850. Teams must notify Matt Gindler by 5p on Wednesday, June 25. All remaining teams will be randomly drawn, put up for “auction” and awarded to the highest bidder. The winning bidder of each team, if not their own team, MUST offer the team members the opportunity to pur-chase back 50% of their share. The total Calcutta purse will be used to pay out the top two teams from each flight, all Wild Card teams, Day 1 Flight Leaders as well as the top 4 finishing teams in the Shoot-Out. The “owner” of winning teams will be paid out as follows: * Flight Winners— $4000 * Flight Runners Up—$2000 (ties will split winnings) * All Wild Card Winners— $700 * Day 1 Flight Leaders—$1000 The “owner” of the top 4 finishing teams in the Shoot-Out will receive the following percentage of the remaining Calcutta purse: * Champions — 49% * 2nd Place — 29% * 3rd Place — 15% * 4th Place — 7% ALL TEAMS PURCHASED MUST BE PAID FOR IN FULL BEFORE MATCH #1 BEGINS ON FRIDAY MORNING. ANY TEAM NOT PAID FOR WILL NOT BE ELI-GIBLE FOR CALCUTTA PRIZING. CALCUTTA FLIGHT BONUS A maximum of 2.5% of the Calcutta will be awarded to winners of each flight whose total amount wagered exceeds that of the average flight. CALCUTTA STAFF POT A maximum of 5% of the Calcutta purse will be reserved as a way to help say thank you to the tremendous staff that helps make The Briar Cup such a success each year. ** Golf Committee reserves the right to increase payouts for each Flight winner and Wild Card winners based on the total amount collected in the Calcutta. MATCH FORMATS MATCH #1—FOUR-BALL (Best Ball) Each player plays their own ball with the lower of the partners’ scores counting as the team score for the hole. MATCH #2— SHAMBLE (Combined Team Score) Both members of the team each hit a tee shot and select the best drive. From there, each player plays their own ball with the combined score of each partners’ ball counting as the team score for the hole. There is no maximum score. MATCH #3—FOURSOMES (Alternate Shot) Each team plays one ball. Teams must designate a player (Player A) to tee off on the first hole. The other player (Player B) will then tee off on the next hole with the two players continuing to alternate tee shots. Which player holes out does not determine who tees off on the following hole. MATCH #4—CHAPMAN ALTERNATE SHOT Each partner plays from the teeing ground but plays the partner’s ball for the second shot. After the second shot, partners select the ball with which they wish to score and play that ball alternately to complete the hole. MATCH #5—SINGLES Two individual matches are contested within the foursome. The lower handicap player from each team will be matched and higher handicap player from each team will be matched. SCORING Matches will use the following scoring format Each Hole Won: 1 Point Each Hole Lost: -1 Point Each Hole Halved: 0 Points Maximum points that can be won or lost per match is 3 RELEGATION Teams that finish last in their respective flight will be relegated to the end of the 2026 waiting list. Any ties for last place will be decided with a chip-off on hole #6 with the closest to the hole determining the winner. New this year—all last place teams will go into a closest to the hole shoot-out on #7 where one team member will hit a tee shot. The 2 closest teams will not be relegated. Once the initial wait list is finalized, a separate drawing will be held to deter-mine the order of all relegated teams. Should you choose to find another partner, the relegation tag follows both team members and their new partners The Briar Cup FLIGHTS AND WILD CARDS · Flights are based off the combined team Course Handicap using the June 19 revision from the Osage Course Routing. · The team in each flight with the highest point total after Match #5 will be declared the winner. If there is a tie for 1st place in a flight(s) or a Wild Card berth a playoff will be conducted beginning on Hole #13 in a Foursomes (alternate shot) format. If still tied, teams will go to a chip off from a location near #6 green. · Three Wild Card teams will be awarded as follows: Wild Card #1—Non-flight winning team with highest overall two-day point total. Wild Cards #2 & #3—Non-flight winning teams (other than Wild Card #1) with the two highest overall point totals on SATURDAY ONLY HANDICAPPING Individual matches are handicapped as follows (Half strokes will be used due to the 9-hole match structure): The Professional Staff will post rounds 1 and 5 as 9-hole competition scores for handicap purposes. · FOUR-BALL (Best Ball) – All players receive 90% of their Course Handi-cap which is then reduced by the Course Handicap of the player in the foursome with the lowest Course Handicap, who then plays from scratch. · SHAMBLE (Combined) – All four players will receive 65% of their Course Handicap which is then reduced by the Course Handicap of the player with the lowest course handicap who then plays from scratch. · FOURSOMES (Alternate Shot) - The higher-handicapped team to receive 50 percent of the difference between the combined team Course Hand-icaps.; the lower handicapped side will compete at scratch. · CHAPMAN ALTERNATE SHOT – The partner with the lower Course Handicap to receive 60 percent of Course Handicap. The partner with the higher Course Handicap receives 40 percent of Course Handicap. The side with the higher combined Course Handicap receives the differ-ence between the Course Handicap of each side. The lower-handicapped side plays from scratch. · SINGLES – The higher-handicapped player receives the full difference in the Course Handicap between the two players; the lower-handicapped player plays from scratch. INJURY OR ABSENTEE RULES Match 1 — In the event that you or your partner announce that he/you cannot play, your partner will compete against your opponents alone. If both cannot play you must forfeit any hole impacted. Matches 2, 3 & 4— These matches must involve all 4 players. In the event that you, your partner, or both cannot play you must forfeit any hole impacted. Match 5— In the event that you cannot play your singles match you must forfeit any hole impacted.
