Student Faculty relationships are CHRIST CENTERED New Heights New Challenges New Opportunity After graduating the largest class 58 to date in the still brief history of Living Word Lutheran High School in 2019 the initial challenge was clear continue the pattern of growth and momentum developed over the past several years By the grace of God a stronger reputation in the community as well as efforts of our Admissions and Marketing team led by John Winter LW was blessed to add 83 new students to the rosters to open the 2019 20 school year Bringing the total enrollment to a new high water mark of 218 students presents a less obvious challenge maintaining and strengthening the strong school and community culture established at Living Word in spite of significant growth and expanding reach In other words the mission core values and sense of community that has drawn more families to Living Word must not be sacrificed or compromised as this ministry grows This was clearly identified in the self study performed as part of the renewal of LW s accreditation with AdvancED NLSA and North Central accrediting entities Students and staff live each day with PURPOSE Back to School BACK YARD BASH Kicking off the School Year Bonfires yard games music and stuffing faces These are the trademarks of the annual Back to School Bash thrown in celebration of the new school year Gone are the days of the sweaty gymnasium dance We ve moved the gig outside In Student Council s first official event of the year students have the opportunity to catch up reacquaint and put names to new faces Smiles abound at the Back to School Bash In light of the growth realized the prospects of continued growth and the aforementioned challenge ahead it has become a stated priority of LWLHS to be intentional about culture in all communications decisions and advancement Elements of this intentional effort to preserve and strengthen the established culture and climate include direct and indirect reiteration and communication of LW s core values mission and overall commitment to employing educational and co curricular activities as tools in pursuing its mission For the past 18 years a culture highlighting the pillars of COMMUNITY OPPORTUNITY and ETERNITY has served to create a culture of personal and organizational growth within and in support of the stakeholders of Living Word Lutheran High School Proudly as this ministry grows and its reach expands the team at LW is committed to forever tethering all current and future ambitions to the foundation that built it that is Christ our Lord Students and staff positively REPRESENT the Lord their family and their school in the community

LEADERSHIP AND SERVICE IN GOD S KINGDOM Living Word Lutheran High School exists to provide quality Christian education for lifelong service and leadership in God s kingdom That s no joke We strive to be intentional about this mission PROFILES IN SERVICE Our Lord and Savior serves as the greatest example of leadership through service The Gospel of John Ch 13 records the event in which Christ humbles himself in doing the task of a servant and washing the feet of his disciples The mission of Living Word Lutheran High School is to provide quality Christian education for lifelong leadership and service in God s kingdom We exist to train the next generation of servant leaders using Christ as our example This section will highlight examples of servant leaders in our community that will serve to inspire others to lifelong leadership and service in God s kingdom One of the efforts we employ in support of achieving our mission is the Wolf Mudder The Mudder kicks off LW s Homecoming week with a nearly 2 mile muddy obstacle course around campus Student and faculty teams compete for who can raise the most sponsorship dollars complete the course most efficiently and of course don the most creative team costumes All proceeds benefit the Top 1 One of the recipients of these funds is Support the Troops WI What is The top 1 The Top 1 gets its name in honor of the 1 of our US Population in active military service This charity teams up with the Washington County Office of Veterans Services to identify and support families of US Service veterans in need ALL PROCEEDS SUPPORT LOCAL VETERANS Support the Troops WI was started in 2007 by a mother Leann Boudwine who wanted to send care packages from home to her two military sons serving overseas When the deployed sons shared with their mother about other soldiers not receiving mail she was compelled to start sending care boxes to them as well Even when her two sons returned home the momentum and mission of sending packages continued and Support the Troops was born Over the past 13 years the organization has grown from an individual mom with a one room in home operation to a donated storefront in downtown Hartford with numerous volunteers All the items packed in the care packages are donated and cash donations go towards the cost to ship these packages via US mail Last year 1000 from the Wolf Mudder proceeds was given to help cover the shipping costs for care boxes To date more than 8 000 packages have been sent all around the world The care packages include essential care items as well as a bit of comfort from home It is Support the Troop s goal to continue to send as many care packages as possible to active military personnel to raise and maintain the morale of our troops If you would like to help support this mission there are many ways to help including donating packable items monetary gifts packing writing a personal letter to be included with the packages or even sponsoring a fundraiser For more information visit their website at www supportthetroopswi com

CORNERSTONE SERVICE PROJECT THANK YOU Many thanks to Tim Cullen Harry Lin Mike Sam Sophia Karlovich Stan Lori Dobler Michael Matthew Axtman Mike Lisa Senkbeil John Winter Tim Gast and Dave Miskimen for volunteering to roll up their sleeves and get their hands dirty with pulling weeds and installing fresh mulch at the front entrance of the school just in time for the 2019 graduation ceremony Living Word Lutheran High School s mission statement includes the idea of training young men and women for service to God in His kingdom Annually in May the LWLHS Foundation will organize a service opportunity for students parents and supporters to beautify the school for graduation Please watch your electronic communications next spring for the 2020 date and project focus You may also call the school office at 262 6779353 for additional details EXPANDING THE MISSION Craig Toerpe is a Gift Planning Counselor for the LCMS Foundation serving the greater Wisconsin area Craig s role is a newly formed partnership of multiple ministries which include Living Word LHS Sheboygan LHS Concordia University Wisconsin and the association congregations supporting these educational ministries Prior to his current role Craig served at St John s Lutheran Church West Bend WI for 10 years as Director of Stewardship and Gifting Craig his wife Leah and their four children reside in West Bend and are active members at St John s in the church and school ministries Craig s relationship with Living Word began as the boy s varsity soccer coach for five seasons 2010 2014 Craig is also a founding member of the board of directors for the LWLHS Foundation from 2012 to the present Craig s passion is to serve fellow Christians in discussing and acting upon the earthly financial resources that God has provided His assistance includes determining how to best provide for your heirs while also making lasting impact on ministry encouraging stewardship principles in your children maximizing assets and giving gifts during your lifetime His approach is to sit at your kitchen table to discuss your end of life gifts to both family and the ministries you wish to financially support Craig works together with you and your financial advisors such as your attorney taxpreparer investment and insurance professionals in bringing your wishes to fruition after Christ calls you home This charitable gift planning opportunity offers assistance through a spiritual stewardship process by incorporating personal financial stewardship and estate planning goals that can provide benefits to you and your heirs while supporting those ministries that you care about God has abundantly blessed the Living Word family We respond in love by serving Him and sharing our earthly blessings with others Let Craig assist you in preparing a responsible lifetime plan for giving that makes the very best gifts at the end of our earthly lives to the family we love and the ministries we cherish To begin your conversation and planning process contact Craig Toerpe at 262 707 3005 or email craig toerpe lfnd org Boiler Update As you may recall from our last edition of the_Link we have some boilers in need of repair That project has now expanded to include replacing the water heaters and repairing the air conditioning in the office and the computer lab as well Our original total for funds needed to complete these projects still stands at 80 000 Work has already started and will be ongoing throughout the school year Please watch for updates on the progress of the work and funding of these important and necessary upgrades to the school building If you would like to financially participate please contact Dave Miskimen at 262 677 9353 or email mylegacy lwlhs com
