TFA State 2024In our Championship Era
President's WelcomeCoaches, competitors, administrators and parents, Welcome to Houston for the 52nd Texas Forensic Association State Tournament. It has trulybeen my honor to serve as your president! First, let me thank our hosts, the Houston MarriotWestchase, who once again have stepped up to host our state contest. They have beenaccommodating and understanding adapting from what they learned last year about speechand debate tournaments to better serve our needs this season. Even a recent fire wouldn’tstop them from hosting us this weekend! I would also like to thank the TFA Executive Council;this group of tireless volunteers has given countless hours to the betterment of ourorganization to ensure that the students of Texas have access to the highest qualitytournament experience year-round. TFA State this year marks a record number of entries andan unusual setting which required extraordinary insight from our leadership. Thanks to the administration at Pampa ISD for their unwavering support of Speech andDebate, for allowing me the freedom to traverse the state weekend after weekend in service toTFA. Thank you to Superintendent Hugh Piatt for consistently encouraging his faculty and staffto become servant leaders and give back to the communities they are a part of, and to myprincipals Clay Jones at PHS and Sachio Petit at PJHS for allowing me reach students wherethey are and give them the opportunity to find their voice. This is it, YOU are it, the best of the best. Congratulations on qualifying to TFA State, you are inelite company. In these rounds we will have state and national champions. Texas knows howto win, and I am proud of each and every one of you for making it this far, but winning isn’teverything as they say. Don’t forget to make time to take it all in. Take a breath, look around, maybe even eat an empanada. These moments will last forever, make memories. In victoryand defeat, remember the moments. Get out there and let your voice sing, advocate for thosewhose voice needs amplified, speak your truth and be heard.Nathaniel Council, TFA President

For the past 10 years, we have asked member schools participate in a service project at TFA State,as an effort to give back and show our appreciation to the community. This year, we arecollecting teddy bears to benefit the Center for Child Protection and funds for the TrevorProject. To encourage and reward participation in this worthy cause, we will award the schoolproviding the most teddy bears with a plaque which will be presented at the awards ceremony. Teddy bears may be dropped off at the designated location in the Rose Garden throughout the dayon Thursday or Friday. Please box them and make sure your school’s name is clearly written oneach box. Calculation will begin on Friday evening. Be sure that the teddy bears are NEW andappropriately sized. Funds for the Trevor Project will be made by selling personalized friendship bracelets. Each willcost $5, and all proceeds will be donated. Stop by the table next to the tfa store to make yourbracelet and support this awesome cause!2023 Service Project
