WHAT IS TEQUILA Distilled from the blue agave plant tequila is a beverage coming from specific regions in Mexico It was first made in the 16th century but wasn t mass produced until the 1600 s WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF TEQUILA There are three types of tequila produced Blanco Reposado and Anejo Blanco or Plata is a white tequila that is bottled and stored right after distilling or is aged less than two months in stainless steel barrels Reposado tequila is aged at least two months but no more than one year in oak barrels Anejo tequila is aged more than one year but no longer than three years in small oak barrels HOW IS TEQUILA PRODUCED The beginning stages of tequila production has remained relatively unchanged since it first started Planting farming and harvesting are some of the most important parts of the tequila process The agave is planted and harvested after which the agave juice is extracted and put into vats to ferment for days After two fermentation processes blanco or silver tequila is produced If silver is not the desired tequila it is put into barrels to age
