Dr. Tatiana Melguizo, a Professor in the USC Rossier School ofEducation and the Pullias Center for Higher Education, was acolleague, mentor and friend who passed away in January 2024. Tatiana was born and raised in Bogota, Columbia, the youngest ofthree children and supportive, loving parents. After earningundergraduate and master’s degrees in economics from Los AndesUniversity in Bogota, she continued her education at the LondonSchool of Economics (MSc), ultimately earned her PhD fromStanford University.Tatiana believed in ‘the power of numbers’ to change lives, andshe blended her passions for economics and education to developresearch and practices that improve the educational trajectoriesfor historically-marginalized students, especially in math andSTEM. She treasured her long-time collaboration with the LosAngeles Community College District, her colleagues, and students.She served for much of her career as a faculty member at theRossier School of Education at USC, where she was a dedicatedteacher and advisor.More importantly though, Tatiana was a kind scholar whomentored students and early career scholars and gave generouslyof her time to help develop others. Tatiana worked together withthe entire Pullias and Rossier family to advance equity in highereducation.Melguizo was also the mother of three children — Mateo, Amalia,and Juliette — and partner to Pierre-Oliver Weill. Tatiana is alsosurvived by her brother, Jorge, and her sister, Lina. She will bemissed by her family, colleagues, students and the many peopleshe touched with her warmth and compassion. 1968 - 2024
