Oi began his musical journey at the age of three under the guidance of his mother, a piano teacher. While living in Germany and England as a child, he learnt under the descendent of Mendelssohn’s, and a defining performance he attended at London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall inspired him to pursue a career as a pianist. By 13, Oi had made his London debut, performing a concerto with an orchestra after winning numerous competitions and appearing in music festivals.After returning to Japan, Oi graduated from the renowned Kunitachi College of Music (国立音楽大学) and spent nearly a decade as the exclusive pianist for Japan’s first opera unit, LEGEND. His solo career took off in 2015 with the release of his debut album Piano Love with King Records, followed by Piano Love II, which topped the Billboard Classical Chart. His popularity grew further in 2017 through a Sony Xperia commercial and the debut of Kenbandanshi (鍵盤男子), a piano duo blending rock, pop, and classical styles, under Warner Classics.In 2020, Oi transitioned to solo work, publishing his book Piano man (集英社) and releasing the album reBUILD in 2021, which led to his PIANO CLASSICS tour. Alongside performing, he has remained active in media, writing, and lecturing and has recently focused on piano education.
