Longstone Eco School Programme E Bulletin Nov 2016 Longstone s Eco Garden is in for a TREET Some of our Eco Eagles worked hard in November potting trees that we received from the Woodland Trust These trees will be eventually planted in our Eco Garden once the building work has finished As well as giving us privacy the trees will help combat climate change and clean our air Pretty treemendous don t you think Give a Hog a Home In the last 10 years the number of hedgehogs living has fallen by 30 and there are now thought to be fewer than one million left in the UK Tracey and Ian from Lisburn and Castlereagh Council visited Longstone in November to give a talk to Year 10 about how they can help protect hedgehogs They also very kindly donated a Hedgehog House which is now in our school grounds Hopefully a little hedgehog will find a cozy home with us this winter Bird Boxes by 12B A huge thank you to Mr O Connell and 12B who have made a Blue Tit bird box to put in our Eco Garden Blue Tits are easy to recognise with a blue cap and yellow breast Year 10 and 12 will be learning a lot about birds when the RSPB visit in January as part of the Big School Bird watch week
