DEAR FRIENDS Welcome to Summermusik 2019 I am excited to present our colorful programs for this summer Excellence surprise and fun are hopefully words that come to mind when attending our concerts all with the first class musicians of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra As always we present music in three contrasting Photo Credit Michael Wilson formats you will hear the full orchestra in our Mainstage series The popular A Little Afternoon Musik series presents events on Sunday afternoons and the more intimate and highly successful Chamber Crawl series is curated by our musicians Each of the series has its own distinct theme format and identity and we hope to see you at all of them This summer we will present four Mainstage concerts at SCPA each with its own characteristic experience Visions of da Vinci will be dedicated to the 500th anniversary of the passing of one of the most fascinating people who ever lived Leonardo da Vinci We are proud to to collaborate with Liquid Video Solutions who will utilize computer mapping and digital technology to illuminate the walls of the auditorium with the artwork of da Vinci Nebojsa Jovan Zivkovic is a charismatic virtuoso multipercussionist and one of the world s top marimba players In addition to performing a Vivaldi concerto on marimba and vibraphone he will also premiere a new composition he is writing based on the infamous hidden melody in The Last Supper Hidden Genius will explore the family relationships of famous composers siblings Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn siblings Nannerl and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the largest family of composers and performers the Bachs Actors from Cincinnati Shakespeare Company will provide further insights from the composers letters and diaries The husband and wife team of the Silver Garburg Piano Duo will dazzle you with their incredible technique and musicianship as they perform two concertos for two pianos Spain is a country that has inspired composers for centuries With its evocative sounds harmonies and rhythms ESPA A promises to be a memorable experience Superstar Pepe Romero will play a flamenco guitar concerto composed by his father Internationally acclaimed flamenco dancer Arleen Hurtado will join the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra in works by Spanish composers Carlos Surinach and Manuel de Falla as we delve into the quintessential Spanish orchestral sound brilliant joyful and exotic Our closing night concert Blissful Mozart will visit Mozart s world where we will try to re establish a level playing field for some of the famous composers of his time We will hear music by Joseph Boulogne Chevalier de Saint George known as Le Mozart Noir Mozart s friend Joseph Myslive ek and of course Antonio Salieri As a perfect prelude to this concert be sure to join us for a screening of the celebrated movie Amadeus on August 22 Julian Bliss will perform one of Mozart s most beautiful works his clarinet concerto showcasing Julian s incredible musicianship The popular A Little Afternoon Musik and Chamber Crawl series allow for a more intimate performance experience For these series presenting classical music in non traditional settings is key Enjoy exceptional music making while exploring new locales around the city These concerts are a fun and memorable experience for our patrons and musicians alike I am looking forward to a musical summer in Cincinnati ECKART PREU 2 S U M M E R M U S I K F E S T I VA L 2 0 1 9
