Scholarship ProgramThe Fitton Center Scholarship Fund gives all students of any age the opportunity to experience a class at the Fitton Center for Creative Arts. We encourage teachers, counselors, family, and friends to invite students who may benefit to apply. Campers will collaboratively build a time machine and use it to travel to Renaissance Italy to learn about stained glass, visit Monet’s Water Lilies, stop by Picasso’s studio, and journey to Australia to discover the bark paintings of indigenous peoples. Crazy for Color Instructor: Kate Schaich June 16 – 20 | 9:30 – 11:30am Get ready to mix things up in this camp bursting with color! Campers will dive into an artist’s vibrant world, learning how to create with all the hues of the rainbow. Discover the power of primary and secondary colors, experiment with warm and cool hues, learn how to paint skin tones, and play with tints, shades, and complementary colors to make artwork pop! Top-Secret Camp Instructor: Bell Day July 14 – 18 | 9:30 – 11:30amIt takes a lot of creativity to be a super-sleuth! In this camp we’ll investigate how to write with invisible ink, dust for fingerprints, and create a disguise. We’ll also make binoculars and Sherlock-style hats for finding creative clues. Get ready for some sneaky fun! During this week we’ll create miniature food platters, tiny art galleries, and itty bitty aquariums - as well as thimble succulents. Bring your large imagination and a tiny tweezers and join us. Art Smorgasbord Instructor: Natalie Crain June 23 – 27 | 9:30am – 12:30pm Calling all food enthusiasts! Its time to get creative with some delicious art recipes. Sketch to Screen: Youth Digital Illustration Camp Instructor: Sarah Hynfield June 23 – 27 | 9:30am – 12:30pm Learn to make digital art using an iPad, Apple Pencil, and the Procreate app. Campers will learn software navigation, artistic techniques, and how to create a finished artwork. All supplies provided, including technology. However, campers may bring their own iPad and Apple Pencil if desired. Nature’s Palette Instructor: Kate Schaich July 7 – 11 | 9:30am – 12:30pm Spend a week creating artwork inspired by nature, a masterpiece that exists all around us! Whether it’s exploring the intricacies of an autumn leaf or replicating the striking beauty of a winter landscape, artists will bring their love for the natural world into the art studio. Campers will create an heirloom ceramic leaf bowl, learn how to capture the unique curves and twists of a flower petal on paper, and create paintings based on the beauty of the flora and fauna of our world. Click & Print: Youth Printmaking & Photography Camp Instructor: Billy Simms July 14 – 18 | 9:30am – 12:30pm In this camp students will learn printmaking techniques (including monotypes, relief prints, and clay impressions) and use digital photography to create collages, illustrated narratives, and much more! Upcycled Art Camp Instructor: Kate Schaich July 14 – 18 | 9:30am – 12:30pm Turn trash into treasure in this eco-friendly art camp! Artists will transform everyday objects into amazing masterpieces while learning about the importance of recycling and creative reuse. From colorful cardboard tube relief sculptures to vibrant bottle cap mosaics, students will discover the magic of upcycling. Craft beautiful bookmarks from old magazines, design plastic bottle butterflies that look ready to take flight, and experiment with cereal box rubbings to make stunning textured prints. Hand-sewn “pocket-hugs,” kindness rocks to hide around the community, and snuggly blankets for local animals in need are just some of the ways we’ll use art to bring joy to ourselves and those around us. Clay Camp Instructor: Abigail Martin June 9 – 20 | 9:30am – 12:30pm Learn how to hand-build and use a variety of decorating techniques to make works of art with clay! Design and personalize your projects with favorite characters, animals, and patterns. Campers will even get to try out throwing on the pottery wheel! The Writer’s Forge: Teen Writing Camp Instructor: Rob Schaich June 16 – 20 | 1 – 4pm What do Harry Potter, The Hunger Games, and Star Wars all have in common? Rich, imaginative worlds, unforgettable characters, and a hero’s journey that keeps us hooked until the very end. In this writing camp, you’ll learn how to craft your own epic adventure, from brainstorming, all the way to finalizing your story. You’ll also get a look into the different genres of writing and how to match your themes to your plots. Whether you’re dreaming up daring heroes, dastardly villains, or thrilling twists that leave the reader’s jaw on the floor, this is your chance to bring your ideas to life, one page at a time! Sewing Basics: Teen Sewing Camp Instructor: Sharon Theard July 7 – 11 | 1 – 4pm Learn all the basics needed to begin your sewing journey in this camp that covers everything from threading a sewing machine to using a pattern. By creating functional projects like a tissue holder, drawstring tote bag, wrist pin cushion, travel kit, and cell phone purse, campers will learn to confidently operate a sewing machine, sew a variety of stitches, neatly finish their projects and more! Roll for Adventure: Teen D&D Camp Instructor: Kate Schaich, Rob Schaich July 14 – 18 | 1 – 4pm Adventure is calling. Traveler, will you answer? You’ve played as the stealthy rogue, the fire-wielding wizard, and the battle-hardened barbarian, but now it’s time to take the reins as a Dungeon Master. In this camp, you’ll learn how to craft thrilling narratives, create complex scenarios, and develop unforgettable NPCs to guide your players through your own unique adventures. Not only will you gain the skills to run your own tabletop campaign, but you’ll also step into the game as a player, experiencing a mini-campaign firsthand. Teen Print Lab Camp Instructor: Billy Simms July 14 – 18 | 2 – 5pm Learn the artform of printmaking using both hand and digital techniques in conjunction with real printing presses. Explore a variety of traditional printmaking methods including monotype, relief prints, and dry point. Discover how to incorporate digital tools like iPads to capture inspiration and generate original illustrations for screen printing. Friends and family are invited to join us during the last 15 minutes of camp on Friday for an art show! Refashion Your Wardrobe: Teen Sewing & Alterations Camp Instructor: Melissa Klaassen July 21 – 25 | 1 – 4pm Build on your basic sewing skills by learning to alter clothing! In this camp we’ll take your old t-shirts and sweatshirts and remake them into pillows, bags, and new wearable garments. We’ll review basic hand and machine sewing techniques, then tackle more advanced skills like zipper insertion and hemming. As time permits campers will have the opportunity to create a self-directed project with individualized guidance from the instructor on how to best execute the design.Note: Campers need to provide at least 4-5 clean t-shirts and at least 1 sweatshirt to use for camp projects. 15 Summer 2023 Education BrochureArt à la Carte Camp Instructor: Kate Schaich June 9 – 20 | 1 – 4pm Create a masterpiece menu of artworks good enough to eat! In this two-week camp, students will take inspiration from contemporary artist-foodies like Claes Oldenburg, Peter Anton, Lucy Sparrow, and Wayne Thiebaud—masters of creating delectable sculptures and paintings. Campers will dish up their own feasts for the eyes, crafting papier-mâché cakes (complete with plaster “icing”), giant candy wrappers, clay confections, hand-sewn felt foods, and realistic breakfast, lunch, and dinner courses made from the most unexpected ingredient—toilet paper! Cut stained glass and tiles to shape into a one-of-a-kind wearable mosaic. While all supplies are included, students may bring their own tiny beads or tiles to incorporate. Learn how to sculpt clay cats, design and build your own cat tree, and create some furry cat masks. Students will also study famous artists who were cat lovers themselves!Acrylic Painting Basics | Ages 18+Instructor: Bell Day $116/members, $136/non-members Mondays | 6 – 8pm Summer II: July 7 – August 11 Learn the basics of painting with acrylics! Discover mixing strategies, color theory basics, compositional development, and materials maintenance. Studio+ Packages Studio+ is monitored open studio time for students who have previously taken or are currently taking pottery classes at the Fitton Center. Come use our ceramics studios to perfect your art! Studio+ is great for beginners who need extra time to practice between classes, or professional potters who just need a place to make and fire their work. Studio+ can be taken independently or in conjunction with our classes. Hours can be purchased individually or in a bulk package. Hours may be used in any amount, any time Studio+ hours are offered. REFUNDS Non-Refundable Deposit The Fitton Center for Creative Arts is a non-profit community arts organization. We rely on tuition fees to run our education programming. For this reason, 10% of tuition for all camps, classes and workshops is considered a non-refundable deposit. Refund Policy For Camps, Classes & Workshops Cancelling up to 8 days or more The tuition amount paid less the 10% non-refundable deposit will be refunded if a student wishes to withdraw from a camp, class, or workshop eight days or more before the scheduled start date of said program. Credit card purchases will be refunded via the initial payment method. Cash purchases will be refunded via check mailed to the address provided at registration. Cancellations Within 1 Week (7 Days) No refunds will be issued for any reason within one week (7 days) of the scheduled start date of a camp, class, or workshop. Referring to the information above, if you are eligible for a refund and wish to withdraw from a camp, class, or workshop please contact the Front Desk.CLASS CANCELLATIONS If a class, camp, or workshop does not have sufficient enrollment, affected students will be notified about any changes at least two days before it is due to start. If a class, camp, or workshop must be cancelled by the Fitton Center, students will be refunded 100% of their tuition or can transfer to another open class or session.INCLEMENT WEATHER CANCELLATIONS If the Fitton Center cancels classes due to inclement weather, all students will be notified by phone and closing/cancellation information will be posted on our website, Facebook, and Instagram pages no later than two hours before the scheduled program. When classes are cancelled due to inclement weather, a make-up class will be added to the schedule.
